    76023: The Tumbler Discussion

Quite an epic set for sure! It's just that judging from the video (and lack of mention in the written info) I'm getting the impression there's no steering! I know Tumbler's front is challenging to make in LEGO form, especially if one wants steering there, not to mention how hard it could be to make such a mechanism durable and smoothly functioning enough at the same time. Still, for a vehicle model of THIS size, lack of steering seems to me an unforgivable omission. Even worse than the non-functioning landing gears and separately rotating wings in the UCS Imperial Shuttle. I was interested in this at first sight, but if there's really no steering at all...

Looks like the wings in particular are receiving praising attention here. And thank you for all the compliments!

Sure is! After completing it, I just couldn't stop swooshing it around.

Well when it comes to Mikey & rest of the Buffalo Airways family, quite likely not. In normal situations THREE IPs (here the DC-3 plane itself, the Buffalo Airways company and the Ice Pilots TV show) might be problematic for TLG to negotiate through, but luckily the LEGO brand is already doing little cooperation with both Buffalo & Ice Pilots, which should make things little easier: http://www.legoland....-Pilots-School/ http://www.cbc.ca/ne...oland-1.1220650 Thanks for your early support & all the wishes!
  6. Greetings! Thought of sharing my latest MOC. Some people might already know about this, as it's on CUUSOO and also on my Flickr page. A Douglas DC-3 airplane in Buffalo Airways colors: Some of you might remember my first DC-3 MOC, also on CUUSOO: http://lego.cuusoo.c...deas/view/17534 Well it happened that Mikey McBryan (https://twitter.com/mikeymcbryan) of the Buffalo Airways, a company operating an entire fleet of real DC-3s and other classic planes, found that project and then contacted me with his idea that we could make a Buffalo Airways DC-3 project on CUUSOO, me taking care of the model and he focusing on the promotion business. The Buffalo aviation family and their planes star in this TV show Ice Pilots NWT as well. I confess, I have never watched it myself - I don't watch anything on TV, since I don't have a TV. This DC-3 design is smaller than my first one, that is, more affordable and easier to handle, in order to have better chances in the CUUSOO Review - if this project gets that far. Maybe FOLs here on Eurobricks like to help? We've seen how IP-connected licence-requiring ideas tend to succeed at getting 10k supports on CUUSOO far more easily than all-original ideas. So I was thinking, if they gotta be licenced stuff, at least be something that makes sense as a Lego set idea, and can appeal to others too (regular kids & dedicated FOLs) and not just the particular special interest group. So I'm thinking, a cool airplane with both display & play value, can't go wrong, right? A few more pics: Some pieces are not yet available in colors used (especially green) so I had to PAINT them! Like my bigger DC-3, this too has retractable landing gears, operated from the knob: And of course some essentials for playability, like the luxury of interior accessible via detachable top sections (a pilot can sit in the cockpit, passengers and/or cargo space in the back): If you liked this project to have its chance in the final CUUSOO Review, please support - or just check out for more information like piece count and measures: http://lego.cuusoo.c...deas/view/51472 Anyway, my MOC ain't mine no more. As a part of our deal, Mikey paid for the model and I shipped it to Canada. Bye bye baby! But I'm sure she'll be loved there at her new home. And just a little note if there are some new folks here who don't know about my other projects on CUUSOO and might be interested. http://lego.cuusoo.c.../Ssorg#projects

Thanks, but what do you mean? It is on CUUSOO already.

MOC: Lapland Cabin with Two Seasons

Thanks for supporting. We've had some discussion here about snow on trees, but just remember this is not supposed to be the most perfect possible MOC but a plausible idea for a Lego set, so I've been trying to keep the piece count reasonable. TLG could easily add some white branch pieces for the snow effect for the winter "mode" of the set. Currently such pieces are not available in white to my knowledge.

Very much thanks to Mencot, Combee and DarthNick for your great feedback and support on CUUSOO. Very much appreciated.

Yes it could work in terms of looks, but there's the piece count thing: it would probably go beyond 3,000. One hundred or two may not be a drastic increase in price with a set of this scale, but going past another thousand might have more of a psychological impact. In itself, snowy trees is a good idea. For TLG it'd probably be easiest just to add some white leaf pieces in addition to green ones.

MOC: Lapland Cabin with Two Seasons

It could pose a problem of some sort, but I wouldn't go to say this won't have "any chance". Ok, maybe they'll drop the winter aspect of this, so that it wouldn't compete with the winter village theme, and would also bring down price. Also, there's no telling how long will it take to gain 10,000 supports, and even after that it'd be a long time period before ending up as a final product for sale. Meaning, it may not overlap some upcoming set. We'll see. Anyway, this is precisely the reason why I wanted to have many projects on CUUSOO. If some of them fails, I've still got several other chances!

Thank you too for supporting and commenting. I too think it should be hard for TLG to reject this. For the very least a set couldn't be more family friendly.

MOC: Lapland Cabin with Two Seasons

Could be fitting, but in lack of white leaf parts one should add tons of small common parts, and I've tried to keep the piece count as minimum as possible to keep it as plausible as possible for a CUUSOO project - a candidate for an official set. Of course, TLG could easily include some white leaf parts in the set. You kidding me?! Like I say in the description on CUUSOO: A Finnish/Lapland cabin without sauna would be utter heresy and horrific blasphemy! Now how on Earth a foreigner could guess that so easily? As if you've been to Lapland and seen saunas! And much thanks to everyone else too for your comments! Oh and VERY MUCH thanks to CopMike for frontpaging this! Another Nordic person from Sweden helping his neighbour!

You're right. Actually I say in the project description on CUUSOO: "Of course, one doesn't have to be some fan of Lapland to support this, for basically it can be interpreted as a generic cabin in almost any wilderness." Good thing you mentioned that, it made me thinking I'd better include the quoted text here as well.

Well it makes me glad that it manages to make an impression. Again, thank you everyone for your nice comments!
