    Your kids and YOUR Lego

I don't have children yet (just married) but when I do, I'll give them full access to my collection of used/new LOOSE Lego. It's all sorted by color and I doubt it'll stay that way long when they're playing with it, but I'd rather it get used than just stay nice and sorted and unused. My sets that I've bought new are still separate though, and I think I'd like to keep them that way. The sets I view more as a collection than building material. Especially my LOTR sets. I'll buy sets for my children too, and with those they can do whatever they want.

Hi fellow LEGO fans! I'm excited to find this community and contribute to it! I've done a lot of forums work in the past; mainly on various GNU/Linux support forums, so it's nice to be part of a forum just about my hobby! I've just gotten back into the LEGO hobby after a dark ages of about 11 years. I'm finding no dearth of amazing sets and parts after my absence; the only problem I seem to have is money! It can get rather startlingly expensive if you try to collect much. I'm often torn between not wanting to invest too much money in a hobby that doesn't give any monetary return and just wanting all the sets I wished I could afford when I was young! Any advice? :)

    Which set should I buy?

I think I'm going to pick up the last of the old LOTR sets (Uruk Hai Army, Mines of Moria, Helm's Deep, and the Orc Forge) before they go out and get rare/expensive. Then start on the Hobbit sets.
  4. Hard to say for certain, but I'm going to say mine was 11 years, from 2001 to 2012. Late last year I began to get into the hobby again, like many others with the advent of the LOTR sets. But I've been delving into many different themes, mostly buying whatever I can find for about 40% or more off MSRP. I also bought a bunch of used LEGO lots for MOC'ing parts. They don't make for as nice builds, being scratched up some, but they're cheap and I can hardly bring myself to part out any of my sets.

    Plans for LEGO 2013?

If I can get it past my wife :) I would like to collect all the LOTR/Hobbit sets. Which is a pretty significant financial investment, so I'm going to have to go it slow. I'll be scouting ebay as usual looking for bargains. My latest was the Portal of Atlantis set (#8078), MSRP $99.99, I got it for $35.00 plus $16 shipping. The box is dinged a bit but still unopened. If money doesn't get tight I'll get the Mines of Moria, Helm's Deep, and the Uruk-Hai army, in that order. Then the Orc Forge and work on the Hobbit sets. Are the rumors of 2013 LOTR sets true? Orthanc, the Black Gate, etc.? Isengard/Orthanc would be too awesome! There is also a backlog of CMF's that I want to get. Having gotten back into the hobby only a couple months ago, I only now realize how much I've missed! I'm not interested in full sets of them, only a couple from each series really, but for older rare ones that gets expensive (Roman Soldier, anyone?).
