  1. Haha! It's been a while since I thought about Mixels...it would be fun to try out some combiners or alt builds like this.
  2. I expected some intense techniques here but was totally blown away by what I'm seeing so far. Wow. It took me looking at a video of one in motion to kinda sorta half understand what's going on. A large version of this could be cool in a standing display of steam train mechanisms—and size wouldn't be as big a concern. I'd love to see someone pull that off! With half beams, you might be able to condense the width a bit, but you might still have issues given the narrowest pins you could use would have a stud sticking out. Whoa—you definitely achieved both the aesthetic and functional goals here. The cinematography in that video was very nice too. Like @Tobi Wankenobi, I'm wondering if this is fully mechanical. It looks like it based on the wide shots. If so, could you start it from any arbitrary stack of rings across the columns, or does it have to run in this sequence? Does it do the logic/math on the fly or does it run on a predetermined sequence like a punch card? One minor comment—I lost sight of the start/end stacks in the video. If you were to take it to a con, would it be possible to indicate the start/end points to the audience? I've never made anything this complex, but I'm hoping to experiment with things more in the future. The most complex Technic-adjacent build I've made so far was a piano-playing robot that I posted on the Lego Mindstorms gallery way back when. The mechanisms were simple—one wheel to drive it and two fingers to play the black/white keys, all directly driven by NXT motors—but accounting for the motion in the timings and picking songs that sounded nice when played at speed presented a good programming challenging. I wish I'd followed through with the idea to add an IR link to some Power Functions that could depress the pedals...I would have enjoyed the challenge of locking it in place and delivering enough force for this.

[SPC] Cat B - Red Beard Space Runner

I love the silhouette of this build. The skull/cannon, engines/rowboat intakes, and exterior shaping are the strongest parts, in my opinion—I think the interior details are harder to read, but I appreciate that there's space for the crew and things happening inside.

[SPC] Cat B - Scary Space Pirate Astroid

Nice to see so many of the parts of the original set in use here—and to see you and your contest builds in this venue. Welcome to Eurobricks!

[SPC] Cat B - Skull Comet

This is a unique take on this category—working with period-accurate parts makes for an extra level of challenge, which you've executed very well. It's neat to imagine that someone could have built something like this 30 years ago. I see Bionicle builders do period builds to great effect—particularly when they show that more modern techniques or aesthetics can work with older pieces. It's neat to see a System take on this kind of challenge.

    [SPC] Cat B - Renegade's R.A.F.T.

Not sharks with frickin' laserbeams! This is a bigger departure from the source visually, but a fun remake. The CCBS parts on the speeder are great!

[SPC] Cat A - Icelanders and Spyrates

I like the mashup here, as well as the representation of the different themes. I wonder if there are other less obvious 90s era minifig elements that could have allowed some more variation or color blocking for each of the individual characters—I feel like you could have created more distinct individual characters while still clearly referencing a pair of space+pirate subthemes. For example, the red Kahuka mask and the torso on your red droid figure could look really neat together—similar to the all-over red Kahuka fig in kritch's Throne/Surface Hopper, which stood out to me as a memorable aspect of that build.

[SPC] Cat C - The Rustbucket

The subject matter may be inspired by Bdubs, but the backless design is clearly Grian-inspired ;) The color and texture on this is stunning—very nice work.

[SPC] Cat B - Krakkin Attackin'

This is one of the few Pirate sets I have, so I recognized it immediately. Agreed with @JulianH that the supersized format works well. I love the little parrot glider and the three animalian pilots.

[SPC] Cat B - Renegade Voidrunner

This stands on its own very well, which isn't a given for models riffing on existing sets. Great shaping and adaptation of different elements of the ship.

[SPC] Cat B: King Kahuka's Surface Hopper

Both sources of inspiration are instantly recognizable, and a clever pairing. Very nice work!

A well-coordinated robot crew. I love the silver spoon!

[SPC] Cat A Gold, Glory and Girls!

Both your entries are very well-polished! I like the color blocking on each of these figs, plus the masked versions.
  14. Thanks @Bob De Quatre for putting this together! It was fun seeing the work of all the entrants. [SPC] Cat A - On Trojan 037-vi

Yes, I got those torsos and some of the heads/accessories from BAM, although it appears the torsos were originally from Ultra Agents. The robot gunner uses the original arms but the others are swapped out. I always thought of the group of 3 figs I picked up that day as space pirates, so thought it would be appropriate to give them a new leader and some Imperial enemies for this contest!
