    LEGO Ninjago 2021

I agree. The angle of the preliminary image made it look very different from the original Ninjago City set, so I think it's the angle of this catalog image that makes it look similar to the city.

    LEGO Ninjago 2021

I was already sold with the blurry leak; this just seals the deal. The detail and presence really capture the spirit of the original (maybe too much so), and also exceeds it in many ways. I don't know where to begin, so I'll just mention what sticks out to me most. The teal tower with "secret ninja room," the colors and geometry are just amazing. Seriously love the teal and tr. pink combo so so much. Also love hidden rooms, so this is great. The trees. So much detail, similar to the 18+ Bonzai. Love the bench especially. And the spring green is a great, great choice. The signage. Made from little bits like crowns and swords and such. Love to see that. And the giant Koi fish. Yes. The roof techniques. Glad to see such a variety of them. The "rooftop zen garden," small build, big presence. Completes the scene and looks rather cozy. Lavender works wonders. The pagoda; can't see much of it, but it's a nice addition that feels at home with the Garden styling. Appreciate that it adds a more traditional structure to the set. Ice Planet Ice Cream. I always love classic LEGO references. Though this feels kinda wrong with the absence of tr. neon orange.

Hopefully it is a Legacy remake of the original. That 4+ set gives me hope since it introduced a new head.

By the photo, the set does not seem any less detailed than the previous two. The only thing missing are some neon signs, which are likely just too blurry to be seen. Furthermore, just taking a look at the trend should alleviate that fear. LEGO’s CNY line is aimed at 8+, yet features much more intricate detailing than the Temple of Airjitzu or Monastery. And even those sets have enough detail to look great. And if this is a D2C set, which I am not sure of, they will definitely not skip out on detail. Just look at the recent modulars. The Bookstore set used several 1x1 elements in the front.

From what I learned, some colors have a four year run. Copper was introduced in 2017 and lasted through 2020. Coral was introduced in 2019 so will retire following 2022. And I think the opalescent colors introduced this year will last through 2023. I am surprised that tr. neon orange, AKA the color that LEGO has used in maybe every single modern action theme, is being discontinued. Any future NC expansions, including the Gardens, won’t quite feel the same without it.

Maybe they're a placeholder? Although, tr. neon orange, the color of the original laterns, is supposed to be discontinued following 2021, according to this DOTS designer video (0:34).

My thoughts exactly. From the rumors, I was expecting every tree to be a cherry blossom tree. It would only make sense considering the City included one. Unfortunately, I only see one towards the top. Perhaps the set includes some cherry blossom treetops to swap out with the lime ones? Also seems like the lanterns are tr. blue, which is very inconsistent.

Honestly, I think they've really nailed the spirit of the original Ninjago City set. Like the original, this set has a huge presence and so much cyberpunk-y, colorful goodness. With that being said, they went extremely far in the futuristic direction, to the point where the set looks sorta busy and a bit too colorful. Keep in mind, this is all from this blurry image alone, and perhaps these colors will mesh better in the final model. But I like how Ninjago City used some more muted colors, like grey and tan, to contrast against the blues, reds, and yellows. Also, I am not going to talk much about the figures yet. These could be placeholders after all. However, I do see some figures that look like a new casual Jay and Nya. I also see Legacy Kai.

    LEGO Ninjago 2021

I agree with both points of view. I love the vertical, diorama style of the Docks and how much detail and display space is allowed by this format. Also love the old-world architecture, reminiscent of somewhere like Kyoto. However, many problems arise with this design when displayed with the city. First off, the side displayed on the box, AKA the most-detailed and interesting side, cannot be seen from the front, taking away from its presence. Second, while I enjoy the prominence of the Kyoto style, many of the tropical, cyberpunk details from the City don't return here. Because of this, the styles and colors start to clash. The point of connection looks especially messy with all the different details. Finally, the height difference is jarring. My first impressions of the Docks was negative simply due to the height choice. All that being said, displaying the Docks from the other side of the City changed that impression. Two of the major problems are fixed here; style clash and height. The colors and details are less varied and more muted, which fits the style of the docks. In fact, the details that are present, like the squid and pufferfish, make sense in transitioning to a dockyard. And with this side being shorter, the height difference isn't huge. I am eager to see what the Gardens look like, but I am aware of the fear that many have; lack of compatibility. Whether that be a literal lack of compatibility or just a clashing of styles, we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully, it's neither. I am not too fearful; it's a Legacy set, meaning it will most likely be a successor and therefore compatible with the City and Docks. And I don't think the height difference will be too bad if the Gardens is only slightly taller than the City. If the rumors are true, I'm thinking it will look good next to Lloyd's apartment. Cherry blossom trees galore.

LEGO Sci-Fi 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Nice eye @hagridshut! I have not heard of Simon Stalenhag, but this book has some absolutely fantastic art! I would love to see three of these Rover sets together to recreate this scene. And personally, this set is one I want to build. The whole build looks quite unique for a rover and uses window and windscreen elements to good effect. I also love the color scheme, with that earth blue striping. And certainly, this is a set that would look great for a Hibernia display (Hibernia is a fan-created LEGO arctic space theme on Flickr).
  11. This is absolutely stunning. First off, you have a fantastic backdrop. The torii shrine has a dynamic shape, and the lava rockwork is very clean, giving the setting that firey feel. As for the temple itself, I enjoy how you sorta combined the prototype set and the final one. The brick-built dragon panels and the roof of the top floor are my favorite parts. Also, I may just order those parts to build that dragon IRL. It's adorable and looks to use some of the techniques from the Golden Dragon. It works so well here!

Lego Minecraft 2020 Rumors & Discussion

I see some talk of a moobloom. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the bee set will include one. However, look at the yellow mob included in the waterfall set. It's too big to be an ocelot and looks to have the same build as the cow and mooshroom. It looks to be, and I very, very much hope that it is a moobloom!

I see what you mean. I think if they were to base the suits off of earlier seasons, Cole would've gotten a gold DotD suit instead. I wouldn't be surprised if they did a gold pilot suit for Kai and a gold Rebooted suit for Zane, considering those molds are still being used. But for the others, I think it's realistic to assume they will probably have gold suits from newer seasons.

    LEGO Ninjago 2020

So they're going to do a gold remake of an already very gold and recent Cole suit... I'm assuming they're going to have different season suits for each gold Ninja, as GarmaFan suggested. MotM is too recent to be considered Legacy, but it is sort of Cole's only season, so it makes complete sense. Ideally, I hope they go this route with the golden suits: Kai - Pilot Lloyd - RotS Zane - Rebooted Nya - Possession Jay - Skybound Cole - MotM (already confirmed), although DotD might've worked too. These are just my hopes, I believe Garma's theory is much more realistic. The pieces from the more modern seasons are still available and in production. Of course, considering they reissued a lot of Bionicle G1 parts in both Hero Factory and G2, I think LEGO could bring back the 2012 and 2015 hoods. Although I wouldn't mind them using the 2019 Legacy hood, even if it isn't entirely accurate. As for the leaks, I'm enjoying the little builds for the battle sets. Especially that lil' ghost market. If they include new figures, I think they'll be a hit. And that teal catermaran is stunning; I love the colors and the sort of cobbled wood and bone design. The teal fins are great recolors too!

    LEGO Monkie Kid 2020

Set-wise, I absolutely adore these. This is LEGO doing what LEGO does best. An original, fresh take on a old tale. And I don't just say that; the sets speak for themselves. Something like the crate ship, which could've been bland, has some vibrant colors and a fun transformation feature! It's like if you combined the Samurai X cave with a coast guard set. Even the TV Show looks extremely promising. An anime-inspired, exaggerated art style with a bright palette; that's my jam. The stylization reminds me a lot of Wakfu and Imiashi works. There's just one thing that gets me - this quality comes at a clear cost. The smallest sets are just not worth the prices being asked for. Compared to how cheap Ninjago can be, these are ultra-expensive. I think the cloud jet could easily be $45, as Ninjago sets of similar size have sold for that. That said, I can't say that the larger sets are that overpriced. That Monkey Mech is massive and comes with sizeable side builds. Additionally, it's decorated with the best of the best, from cloth to drum-lacquered gold. I don't think $150 is too much to ask for. And $170 for something larger-looking than TLNM Destiny's Bounty can't be disputed all too much.

    Lego Architecture 2020

I can't say I care for this choice. The old White House set just retired 4 years ago and is part of many people's collections. It still looks nice with modern sets, so I don't see why they remade it so soon. That said, I can only wonder what makes this set 3,700 parts, at 100 Euro, with an 18+ rating. Is there some crazy complex building styles used? Perhaps they added some rooms, like in the Capitol Building. I believe this set could look very nice, so I won't write it off yet. EDIT: Please keep in mind this information could very easily be wrong. So take it with a grain of salt.

Very nice work! I quite enjoy how earthy the base looks, and the pathway has a clever build. But my favorite part would have to torii and tree. The use of those crates gives the torii a nice texture and the blossoms used on the tree just give the MOC that 'pop.'

    Ideas for new Architecture sets

When Machu Picchu passed 10K on LEGO Ideas, I was hoping that maybe LEGO would pick it up for a set. My Spanish teacher had grown up in Peru, so learning about that country is something I will always remember. If LEGO were to do a USECO World Heritage Site sub-theme, many of the choices you mentioned, including Machu-Picchu, would pique my interest. Personally, I want to see some more Italian architecture since the last set was Venice, which was almost 4 years ago. Also, what about South American Architecture? There's been none if I recall correctly. At the very least they could attempt a skyline set? Buenos Aires, Lima, and Rio all would make good skylines. That said, the skylines haven't interested me as much as individual structures, due to how small and expensive they can be. Finally, I would love to see some fictional or licensed structures. I recently saw the movie, Promare, and Promepolis really caught my eye. Kray's Office, in particular, would fit in very well in the Architecture theme, due to its square shapes and sleek appearance.

    LEGO Ninjago 2020

Here's my theory; the Arcade Pods are like the chambers from Code Lyoko. The feature could work like the crab feature in Ninjago City. My guess is that the arcade pod may have a casual clothed figure, and then the avatar figure. My guess is that you place the casual figure into the pod, and then, like the crab pot function from Ninjago City, you flip it with a knob to reveal the avatar.

I like that Unagami (?) has indigenous looking garbs, with the different patterns in the bright red and teal. His hairpiece is also really neat, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's comprised of two parts like Barbara Gordon's ponytail from TLBM.

    LEGO Ninjago 2020

Just some random thoughts. Based on this list, I hope for a Tron aesthetic from the supposed Season 12 wave. "Velocity Racers," in particular, make me think of light cycles. I'm excited to see we will be receiving 2 dragons! Considering that only the "Empire" and Jay receive dragons (based on the list,) I believe they are the main antagonist and protagonist of this wave, respectively. Jay also receives more than one build, something to note when he received no vehicles in the Summer 2019 wave. Also, The Empire Temple of Madness just sounds epic. I want to see a temple with a completely chaotic aesthetic, maybe a black base with some crazy neon colors. As for the Legacy wave, I am surprised they are doing one so soon again. If this wave is released separately from the techno wave, I realistically expect this wave to be released in Winter, and the techno one in Summer. The Golden Mech is a pleasant surprise, as the original was amazing. Though I wonder if they are remaking the whole Temple of Light set. The original had just below 100 pieces more (the new one is said to have 489.) If they scaled down the Golden Mech to be the size of say, the Samurai Mech from Legacy 1, then I believe LEGO could use the remainder of the parts to make a smaller, but wholesome Temple. Realistically, however, I just expect a larger Golden Mech. The other choices are interesting. From what I have seen, the only one that's confirmed is the Jungle Raider. I think the original vehicle had a lot of charm, though there are better sets from the ToE wave to remake sets of. The Titanium Dragon or Enter the Serpent come to mind. I hope they condense the Raider and make it a tad more polished. It would also be cool to see them go all out with the spike aesthetic. The others rumored are Thunder Raider and Kai's Dragon. Thunder Raider had an awesome concept with some fun vehicles, but I feel that the Ninjacopter is more iconic, especially considering the focus of the Rebooted wave was on Zane. That said, I'm excited to see if they beef up Jay's tread vehicle, as the original just didn't look too good without Cole's mech. As for Kai's dragon, I hope it has some pre-fab, organic-looking elements, considering it is a 4+ set.

According to Jang, Zane's spinner is actually light aqua and trans. light blue. While initially confused as to why Zane's spinner didn't include glitter, I think it was a compromise. Since light aqua is a rarer color, I don't believe it would have been cost efficient to use both light aqua and glitter in one spinner. While it would've been absolutely amazing to see both, I think it was good trade.

    LEGO Ninjago 2019

I was looking forward to seeing this one IRL as the pictures didn't impress me. Hands-on, though, this looks stellar! The Wyvern - It's quite good, almost Green NRG good. I wasn't expecting that level of shaping in this build. Love the shaping of neck and head, and the use of the ragged texture parts throughout. Mixed on the wings, as they look too big. Main Fortress - The center is a bit jarring, but the function is very innovative! The builds for the fortifications are great, with many great part usages, such as the 2x1 round plate and small barb for icicles, the masonry brick, the use of the flag panel parts for the roofs. Since space is limited, it was smart to use the second level as watchtowers. It allows you to display figures on the exterior and interior of the build. Additional Fort - It feels incomplete. It doesn't have the level of detail that the main fortress does, with a lot more prefab parts making up the build. That said, the function they fit in is good, and so is the crossbow shooter on top. The figures - So many good figures! Lloyd and Cole's new garbs are among some of the best this wave. I love the look of the FS masks, and the spinner is glitter. Enough said. As for Akita, I love the ornamental look of her garbs, and the tail cloth element and hat/hair combo part top it off fantastically. For the baddies, they're alright. First, the Ice Emperor looks awesome in the white armor. Wish they would've made the other Samurai white as well. Speaking of which, you get three of them here. The "ice" printing looks uber fake. They're only good with the armor, IMO. However, the Samurai armor are among some of the coolest parts introduced in this wave of sets. Can't complain there.

    LEGO Ninjago 2019

If we're looking at price per part ratio, then the value isn't great. But if the contents and the volume of stuff is taken into account, I would say it's a great deal. A CMF is typicially worth $4. Due to the new armor parts and prints, I would say the ice samurai is $4 worth. Let's say Lloyd, who has no parts, but a couple new prints, is worth $3. And finally, the kitsune fox is obviously worth more than a minifigure, and on its own, is at least $5 or $6, if that. Adding that up gives you at least $12 of value with the minifigures and kistune fox alone. Add the build, which takes up the majority of the 81 pieces, and you have yourself a great deal at $15.

    LEGO Ninjago 2019

Thoughts so far. Spinners - Interesting. I like that the feature seems to be compatible with winter's spinners, and that the function isn't built into the spinner. The recolors are definitely great, with a very Bionicle 2016 vibe with the silver and gold co-injections. And the new Spinjitzu masks are, interesting. The elemental, eh, flame? at the top looks more like hair to me. Definitely going to pick one up though, as the function intrigues me and that recolors are a delight. Lloyd's Journey - The fortification is boring, but has some nice parts. Lloyd and the Kitsune are great. The ice samurai has some great armor parts, but the ice printing looks fake and the face print is just ugly. Cole's Bike - Not a huge fan of the color scheme, but the build itself is quite sleek, with a nice consistency in the rock texture. The spring shooters are a tacky edition, but the flag looks very tasteful. Not much else to say. Shuricopter - The build is quite sleek, with a lot of nice angular shapes and accents. I feel like they should've stuck to one blue, instead of throwing in both trans. light blue and medium azure. The gold has questionable distribution as well. Love the winglets with those gorgeous new shuriken blade parts. Snake - . For a set that has to be built with legal, sturdy techniques, and have at least one play feature, the shaping is quite impressive. It was a smart move to incorporate the grey into the colorscheme, as typically, the grey takes away from the believability of creature builds, especially those notorious friction adders. Here, it adds another layer of depth into the colorscheme, and that's just fantastic. Also to note, the rock texture has great consistency here. Katana 4x4 - Right away, not my cup of tea. If you like Madmax-style vehicles with oversized parts, then this is for you. I like certain elements of it, like the giant thrusters, the front grill, and the flag in the back, but the giant wheels, shuriken blade in the front, and bright red colorscheme make the vehicle look overwhelmingly tacky. Especially those gold rims on the wheels. Titan Mech - This bad boy almost looks like a MOC. It's so 3-dimensional, with no anti-studs on the inner parts of the arms and legs! The shaping looks so complete because of it. Not to mention the colorscheme; it's extremely tasteful. Love the wing set, though the helmet I cannot see clearly enough to make a judgement yet. Ice Fortress - I'm going to refrain on making too many judgements, as I can barely see this. Like Aanchir said, it looks similar to the Flying Ninja Fortress from the original 1999 Ninja theme, and that's great. That said, there is something off to me about the middle of the main structure, can't pin-point what it is. I will refrain from commenting on the dragon, as I can't see any of it except for the wings and tail. Fingers crossed it looks good. Land Bounty - Not liking what I'm seeing. It looks like a scaled down Destiny's Bounty on a trailer with oversized wheels. I'm going to reserve my judgements on this one. Overall, interesting wave. Not in love with it yet, but these are preliminary photos. Many of the Legacy prelims looked horrid but ended up being fantastic sets. We'll wait and see if that's the case here.
