    Review: Cargo Railway 4559

Great review, but this is an awful train design. It's essentially designed as a truck on rails with the cab pulling the cargo behind. As the reviewer said, why passengers would want to be loaded on like freight is anyones guess....

    Review - 6374 Holiday Home

Great review! This holiday home was part of my LEGO city in the 80's. What I love about reviews of these old sets is the change in the way TLG "instruct" the building. These days it is all laid out in front of you - which pieces are required to complete this single step, and how many of them you needed. Numbered bags, numbered instruction books etc. This 80's style in my opinion really made a kid think. It developed observational skills by working out what was different from one step to the next. Finding differences and working out for yourself what was needed to keep building. Kids have it too easy these days I say!

    New Lego horse

I'm encouraged with the mentions of future versions of banding and headgear that knights and the castle theme is not dead.

Just keep in mind that Big W doesn't just sell LEGO. They have an entire department store with thousands and thousands of other items being sold for a profit day in day out. Sure, they may be taking a $50 hit for every fire boat they sell, but it is hardly a drop in the ocean for them, and as has already been said, it's a loss leader designed to get people in the store for the bargain and hopefully buy some other things while they are there.

    Minifigure Speech Bubbles?

Wow, such huge shelf space for so little product. I'm surprised some of these 3rd party products get approved by TLG...

    TLG survey - input please!

I made a request for the return of the travelling LEGO World Shows... ahhh the 80's were good for something

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion

I love the detailing on Liberty's "crown". I just hope the final version has a printed toga piece instead of the plain green shown here.

What do people think is next?

The interesting thing about recent train releases like Emerald Night, Maersk and even Red Cargo Train is that they have appeared without any real warning. A new train release could come anytime (not soon enough for my liking though). While we're dreaming, how good would a train shed and PF turntable be? I've always had a soft spot for 7838 so a modern take on that freight depot would be great. If history repeats itself I think we are due for another renaissance. The early 80's saw the boom in 12v trains and lots and lots of regular releases. The early 90's saw the 9v era and the mighty Metroliner, the early 00's bought the My First Train range of rolling stock and the mighty Santa Fe's... the early 10's need a healthy dose of the 80's!

    8043 with claw

I've never really been into TECHNIC always thinking of it as LEGO with holes, but seeing your excavator in action really makes me want to have a play! Nice MOD work there with the claw!

    MOC - Ferry barge

Very nice MOC! I love the design of the cab and funnel. It reminds me of the style of harbour boats LEGO released in the 80's

What is your favorite Service Station in Lego City

Ahhh, LEGO and Shell... influencing my petrol purchasing habits well into my 30's (up until I started working for a competitor). My vote was for the 6378, but 6394 was always on my wishlist... and we've never seen a multi-storey carpark again...

    Mini A-10 Thunderbolt

Love it! When you can tell exactly what it is at first glance, you know you've nailed the mini-build!

    Thanks for the trees!

I do miss all the tree varieties from the 80's. They may have been 1 big piece of all-green plastic but at least they were available...

The only exception over $1000 is artworks, so if you can convince them that your LEGO purchase is a piece of art you might be in luck. A while ago I bought a polystone Boba Fett statue and tried to convince customs that it was a piece of art (which any Boba Fett fan would agree with). Unfortunately customs don't appear to be Boba Fett fans...

My partner and I visited our local Big W at Garden City this afternoon. There was only 1 UCS Shuttle at the info desk at the front door, so we grabbed that. She's buying that for me for me as a birth-mas present :) Thankfully no sign of Biw W tape, and while there was an electronic tag on, it wasn't on tight and didn't crush the edges. Even the lay-buy girl was very careful about taking the price tag sticky tape off the box, and a lot of care was taken. They were surprised to see one sell, so I don't think they have been moving very well today, even suggesting that they had more on a pallet "out the back" with just the 1 box on display. No sign of Obi-Wan's ship though, that was my present to her.. (well one of my presents, I'm not that stingy since she's plonking down so much for the shuttle!)

Mine is still sitting happily on the launch pad. It also has to deal with a very large cat that likes to jump past it every now and then. Thankfully the worst it has suffered is the tail fin falling off...
