A while ago I bricklinked a blue grocer too thinking I would never get a real one. However, I was lucky enough to get a real one a couple of months ago but after building it I couldn't bring myself to dismantle the blue grocer that had taken me many months and BL orders to complete so now they both have a place on my street. The photo shows both together and you can see where I have made a few changes to hide the fact that I couldn't economically get a few of the parts e.g. the 1x4 tiles around the main door. https://www.flickr.com/photos/107549298@N08/14697864867/

I've nearly finished building my first MOC (previously I have just played around with modifying the Palace Cinema or bricklinking the Greengrocer). As it is quite a daunting task I decided to use a 16x32 baseplate so my MOC fits in with the Petshop set. I didn't go down the LDD route as I find that I am more experimental physically putting bricks together. I also find I can be more creative if I have a limited number of types of bricks unlike LDD where you have everything. Just like Eliza says above I tend to do a bit and then come back a day or 2 later and rebuild it. So the whole process take quite some time.

Blimey, with that many parts orders the shipping is likely to cost as much as the building? or is shipping a lot cheaper in the US?

From memory there wasn't enough. Unfortunately the old BL orders have been purged so I couldn't say now how much extra I had to buy.

I built mine about a year ago. I found the sand green to be too expensive for my budget so used sand blue instead as I managed to pick up a Modular Pet Shop on the cheap. Also I couldn't find a source for the ornate tiles around the door so redesigned that a little bit as it looked terrible with plain tiles. Anyway, here's what it looks like in sand blue: http://www.flickr.com/photos/107549298@N08/11810735935/ Ivan
