Tanotrooper Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) Greetings everyone, I realized that my Magnofigures (of which I still have to post the SW figures ), while having a lot of articulation, are a dying breed thanks to the lack of availability, variety and colours in the technic figure elements. Since these figures are the same scale as the famous Miniland figures, I decided to try this scale. The world of Miniland is quite different from what I'm used to (mainly minifigs), but I'm beginning to prefer the Miniland figures over minifigures. One important reason is that, due to their size, basic parts are used instead of specialised parts. This means they are available in a lot more colours, and so the possibilities are vastly enlarged. Most of my figures will be posted in this thread: Miniland figures, but I'll make an exception for Star Wars (I believe Star Wars is the first licensed theme to appear in the official miniland layouts.) But anyway, here's my first Star Wars Miniland figure: The standard Stormtrooper with his standard E-11 blaster. The head and blaster design orignate from the magnofigure version, the body is new. I'm very happy with how the pelvis section worked out. The claw on the ground connects to the clip on the barrel of the blaster. At the moment, I don't have enough parts available to make these Miniland figures, so I'm using LDD. Some connections, like the claw, won't work on LDD, but will in real life. I'll transfer the other SW magnofigure heads to Miniland bodies, so expect a scout trooper, clone trooper, imperial officer and darth vader soon. Comments and critcism are very appreciated as always! Brickdoctor Posted August 3, 2011 Nicely done, Tanotrooper. You've captured the look of Miniland figures well. The back plate, especially, looks perfect.
Mr Man Posted August 3, 2011 Very nice Tanotrooper, and quit accurate as well. I love the way you got the BCCK on the back, and the asymmetrical leg armour.
Tanotrooper Posted August 3, 2011 The pictures have been changed. I forgot to add the 'brow' on the helmet, this has now been fixed. Nicely done, Tanotrooper. You've captured the look of Miniland figures well. The back plate, especially, looks perfect. Thank you! I was planning on using a 2*2 tile with center stud, but I had to shorten the body, so the jumper plate fits in perfectly now. Very nice Tanotrooper, and quit accurate as well. I love the way you got the BCCK on the back, and the asymmetrical leg armour. BBCK? Is that the back 'plate' or the therminal detonator? And thanks, I'm glad you noticed the leg armour, it gets overlooked very often. Cheers, Gaetano
wokajablocka Posted August 4, 2011 (edited) MMM... I like it, great job. I like the look of his back. Edited August 4, 2011 by wokajablocka
Tanotrooper Posted August 8, 2011 (edited) MMM... I like it, great job. I like the look of his back. Thanks! UPDATE Grand Admiral Thrawn Some artwork shows him with epaulettes, and some without them, I based mine on my Sideshow figure. (I still need to design his Ysalamari.) I used a new leg technique to resemble the 'dress pants' of the officer's uniform. Imperial Fleet Officer (gray) and Stormtrooper/infantry officer (black) The head design is transferred from the magnofigure version but in new colours. Several variations of the black uniform exist. I chose the one with the imperial emblem on his shoulders and with the regular officer belt. The rank insignia is represented by the light bley headlight brick. I tried to represent the insignia as a small plate on the chest, but the tiles with the headlight brick look alot better. Comments and critcism is appreciated as always. Brickdoctor Posted August 8, 2011 Excellent work once again. The cap of the troopers works perfectly. I'm not sure about the extra 1x2 black tile on the arms of the black officer, though; they make him look too fat in this position. (no idea if it'll look better with the arms in other positions)

(no idea if it'll look better with the arms in other positions) And thank you once again. The tiles look better in different positions or in real life. (And most of the poses would either have the arms behind the back or holding the blaster.) I'm working on Darth Vader, but his body will be bigger and taller, so I'll have to modify a lot of things and that might take a while. I'm hoping to have the AT-ST driver and Imperial scanning crew finished soon. (Variations of the officer uniform.) Gaetano EDIT: I've added the file for the black officer so you can see it from different angles. minilandimperialstormtrooperofficer.lxf Edited August 8, 2011 by Tanotrooper
Brickdoctor Posted August 8, 2011 They probably do look better in real life, since they look better when you can see the brick seams. I do still think they're too fat, though. Comparison:
Masked Builder Posted August 9, 2011 Not bad looking! I do like that you've gone and made Thrawn. We don't see to much of him in many MOCs. And I agree with Doc on this one, they do look a bit fat in the pictures with the extra tile. But I suppose I'd have to build him to see for sure.
wokajablocka Posted August 9, 2011 I love the officers hats, they look awsome and have to agree on the fat arm. MOre great work.
M<0><0<DSWIM Posted August 9, 2011 I think these are great! I don't see enough builders working in "action figure" scale, as I call it! I especially like your Thrawn, even though I've never followed the books.
Mr Man Posted August 9, 2011 BBCK? Is that the back 'plate' or the thermal detonator? And thanks, I'm glad you noticed the leg armour, it gets overlooked very often. It's the thermal detonator on the back . I like the new figs, especially the legs on the officers .
Tanotrooper Posted August 10, 2011 Thanks for all the comments. About the tile: I'll wait until I get the parts for the figure and see what works out best. Here's a small update: Shadow/Blackhole Stormtrooper Just a repaint really. Gaetano
Brickdoctor Posted August 10, 2011 Repaint it may be, but it still looks great. Maybe some more silver accents might help.
Tanotrooper Posted August 10, 2011 Repaint it may be, but it still looks great. Maybe some more silver accents might help. I tried putting more silver accents in, but they don't work with how the helmet is designed. (It's too 'silvery') And the body lacks any coloured details (except for some very small dots on the belly), so I can't add anything there either. Again, I believe this will look a lot better in person, as LDD makes it look like one solid block of black. Gaetano
Masked Builder Posted August 10, 2011 Very cool lookin. While it is a recolor it's still one of my favorites.
