[SPC] CAT C - The Rusty Sailor

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello everybody,

This is my interpretation of a sailing vessel in the space age:

The Rusty Sailor

She is a smuggler ship, which is in service of the owners' family for ages and has seen lots of repairs and modifications. The vessel is equipped with solar sails to travel long distances while steering clear of official refuelling points. Of course, she needs to be able to make planetfall to avoid curious eyes at the orbital space ports. To achieve this, the solar sails can be retracted during landing. If cornered, the Rusty Sailor is able to defend herself, as she possesses four heavily armed turrets.

As I am a technic guy, my main focus was to create many working functions for this vessel:

 - Both sails can be lifted or retracted simultaneously

 - Both sails can be rotated simultaneously

 - Landing gear and front ramp operate simultaneously

 - Left and right side turret are synchronised

All functions are centrally controlled by wheels at the side of the ship

The display stand is connected with a ball joint to the ship, so it balances rather freely on it.

Thank you for organizing this contest, it was a really fun theme (although I had trouble to finish my entry in time - I need to work on my time management)

The funtionality sound interesting, it would be great to add a video sometime showing us the functions, since your build relies heavily on them. :pir-huzzah2:

Thanks for your interest, I created a short video of the functions!

Cool to see a Technic approach to this contest (and to see something Technic that is not an existing vehicle). I like the visual looks of the space ship, but seeing it in action with all the functions is something else. Well done!

Thanks you! I had great fun doing something unconventional in technic.
