Not a big fan of part count limit.

Ok I get your point. I just gave my concern that this contest will end up with big, good looking spacecrafts without any functions... :-/

Even I as a vehicle guy, would prefer a contest without wheels/tracks/legs, as this would be something new (aside from the GBC ;-) ), so thumbs up for spacecraft !

Thumbs down. There are plenty of ground vehicles in Classic Space, like the Blacktron 6941 Battrax. i agree with avoiding cars, but I think ground vehicles should be allowed.

First of all, this isn't a classic space contest. Second, avoiding cars but allowing ground vehicles feels contradictionary. How would you qualify ground vehicles not being cars? More than 4 wheels?

Blacktron 6941 Battrax looks like a "spacecar" to me.

6941 is definitely a car.

I’m going to wait and see what the final rules are and see if I can knock out a quick model for this one too while concentrating on the Sci Fi thread comp

Less than or more than 4 wheels or tracks, I guess? Anyway, I'm not opposed to excluding models that are primarily ground vehicles.

But that leads me to think, could a spaceship include a car-like thing stowed in a cargo hold or whatever? (Think of Galaxy explorer.)

I have no problems having it limited to flying stuff.

I do have a bit of difficulty coming up with cool functions though.

Plenty of cool functions:

Expanding docking ring to travel between ships.

Ships that expand to hold cargo, like Rebel Hunter 6897.

Opening cargo bay doors.

Loading mechanism

Changing shape when in different flight modes (X-Wing, Klingon Bird of Prey, Voyager from Star Trek, Slave 1, Firefly)

Docking clamps/claws landing apparatus

Weapon turrets, hidden weapon bays

Smaller probes/ships.

That is a question for the Technic General topic, not for this topic (General Contest discussion).

Where will the official rules and conditions of the contest be published? I don't want to miss that!

It will be pinned, in this (Technic) forum. You won't miss it.

When can we expect the contest to start? I think I got a nice idea... :devil_laugh:

*Edit: Even the model itself is the focus, can be included, that you have to describe your model a little more to get a little more context what its supposed to be? :D

I will try to get it up-and-running shortly. Just came back from a short holiday, so I haven't had the time. Not used to holidays in December.

Hopefully (before) next weekend.

Sorry for the delay but the contest is online. We have tried to keep it simple. I'm sure there will be some questions, so fire away in the discussion topic and we will try to clarify.

Again, sorry this hasn't been posted before Christmas, but I haven't been around a computer much the last two weeks of the year.

Since the current contest is about to end, I have been thinking about a new one. I know there are some popular smaller ideas to keep us busy. I also have an idea for something to keep us busy during the summer months. This contest can run a bit longer, since we all have lots of other stuff to do during the summer period. What are your thoughts on building during the summer period? Do you still build a lot?

Shrink a set coming soon?

That is on my shortlist, but it feels like a small contest to squeeze in at some point. Not one for an entire summer. But if you all think otherwise, I am okay with it.

Sadly I could not participate in the last TCs due to time... But I am all for this idea!

And if you choose a big flagship with 4000 parts, even shrinking would mean 1000 parts or more. These are not small builds!

Depends on what the competition is @Jim. I really tried for the current space competition and things just ran away. Hoping to be involved with whatever is next.

It will be something which is very easy to enter. Just some (easy to implement) color restrictions.
