If they were to "redo" past modulars from the early years, I'd want something totally new while paying homage to the original. But to me if would have to be a totally brand new Fire House etc.

I personally think the Boutique Hotel is a partial homage to Café Corner (both have hotels inside, both corners, etc.)... but that's just my opinion.

Um, not exactly.  Boutique Hotel has several references to the past modular buildings. But yeah I see waht you mean. Cafe Corner has a small hotel while Boutique Hotel has a small coffee cart.

I rarely buy over MSRP for retired sets, as, with patience, I've been able to find things I'd like locally, sold at either sensible amounts, or staggeringly cheap. But the Fire Brigade is the one I went high for. I finally caved and bought it for $400, because I love the look of it, the dark red really standing out, and it's a neat thing to have in the line up. (Of course, about three months later, one came up locally for a decent amount, but it's always the way).

I still think the Fire Brigade would be something they could revisit and get a lot of interest in. But then, we're still missing a post office, hospital, and school/college/university, which are pretty fundamental. And another department store would be really neat, with the level of detail they can go into now - Grand Emporium was implemented before it's time, I think).

Over the holidays I built 10293 Santa's Visit by Chris McVeigh, and OMG, it's so good. Even after bag 1, which is just the base, I was left pretty awestruck as to how he'd constructed something so complex from LEGO. And throughout it was brilliantly clever, looks amazing, and has some awesome play features. It's made me really excited to build his modulars now - Police Station and Natural History Museum - hoping he brings those qualities into the sets.

Agreed with you on FB and GE. I feel they need to be remade/updated with a load of details and building techniques.  I realy want to get Fire Brigade for my city but it’s really basic and expensive.  But… the facade looks so good.  Lego, please take that note that we want remake of FB and GE!

Totally agreed with you! I love Chris’ work - I do have Santa’s Visiit and Police Station. Police Station does Ineed have play features too. I’m about to buy Natural History Museum on January st to get GWp and I’m already looking forward for building Chris’ masterpiece!

I love the police station, its my favorite out of all the modulars.

I would love to see more medical stuff in future modulars (we got a dentist in the Assembly Square, how about a doctor or even an optometrist)

A hospital doesn't seem likely (although if they did one it would be instant "shut up and take my money")

Sorry but did any designer explain why Natural history Museum being released on Dec 1st instead of Jan 1st? We have Avenger’s Tower and Orient Express sets that are already released around the same time Museum hit shelves.

I would like to know, too. And also if this will be the new schedule each year.

Yeah, and there is a so-called rumor that there would be “second” Modular building in 2024. I don’t think I will buy this rumor.

Having the Natural History Museum come out Dec 1 was much appreciated.  It allowed me to build it on Christmas and I get to avoid standing in line with a bunch of other people at the Lego Store on January 1.  I am also glad to see that they finally allowed a modular to be pre ordered.

The museum itself works well for me.  I am not as put off by the olive green as I thought I might be.  Also, it is nice to get back to a building that has a single function.  Multi-function structures are fine, but I do not think they all have to be done this way.  Guess we are getting a corner building next time as this has been the pattern.

I haven't seen it but I also feel like that kind of decision about WHEN a particular set would come out would not be made by the designers themselves, since it'd be much more in the realm of production/logistics/marketing/sales, rather than a design decision.

As long as we get diverse civilians with different torso prints I'm fine. Don't need new factions. I want Lego to spend the entire budget on civilian minifigs. After all it's a medieval market, not a castle.

Uh, is this post meant for Medeival Market set, not a modular buidling?

I'd also love to see some of the older modulars updated or re-released like the other 90th anniversary style sets recently.

The Grand Emporium could really do with a detailed interior.

The Fire Brigade would be nice too!. As someone more new to modulars I have the Police Station and need the other emergency services in my city, but no way can i afford the off market scalper prices (side note i'd happily take a remake of Ghostbusters Fire House in its place).

Rather than a remake, I think Green Grocer and Market Street could be fused together to make a Farmers Market/Grocery store that pays homage to both sets whilst being it's own thing.

Didn't Lego mention some time back that they actually considered an L- or U-shaped layout with a farmer's market?

Now that sounds like a real good idea. I’d welcome this as a 48 x 32 modular for the 20th anniversary.

Agreed. Some kind of combined market would be lovely, and have plenty of opportunity for the little details that modulars do so well.

Expand

Oh for sure! Green Grocer had one of the best facades but the interior was pretty empty, and Market Street didn’t really feel like a market at all. A modern take on these would be able to elevate the concept to a whole other level!. Fruit and Veg stalls supplied by local farmers, a smallgoods butcher, homemade jams, cakes…. So much potential!
They could even stick to the Fresh branding they’ve been doing in City recently.

I’m not sure how likely it would be….  I just can’t see Assembly Square 2.0 as 20th anniversary set as the 10th anniversary set has been around for 7 years. Now it is replaced with Natural History Museum that might last for another 7 years, who knows.

5th anniversary - Town Hall being a tallest building in Modular Building

10th annivesary - Assembly Square being a then-largest set in the lineup

15th annivesary - Boutique Hotel having a most unique shape unlike to other building sets, like a triangular building

20th annivesary set should be something different and unique unlike other past ones.

And $600? Because you know they'll do it..

In that case, my wallet is already dreaded for 20th annivesary set if it’s $600.

Yes they did. I think they wanted a U shape/alley to fit in different shops but they couldn't make it work because it was not enough room and too cramped for even kids hands. I think they went with the BH if I remember correctly.
