Murdoch17 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 (edited) These two diesel locomotives of the fictional Allegheny and West Virginia Railroad (AWVR) are the star engines of the 16-year old 20th Century Fox film 'Unstoppable' which is itself loosely based on a real event from 2001. On the left, we have 777 (also known as 'Triple 7') which is the lead unit of the runaway train everyone is trying to stop in the film. The other engine is 1206, the 'hero' locomotive driven by both Denzel Washington and Chris Pine's respective characters in their effort to stop 777's runaway train. I'm' not going to get into the issues of the film and it's lack of realism in certain areas. *cough cough 'Stanton curve' climax sequence* I'm just here for the LEGO MOCs. Speaking of which, here's the breakdown on what's what with these MOC's, but please note - they aren't meant to be hyper-accurate models, but more CITY play-scale versions of their film counterparts. Both models are unpowered as well. Triple 7 is based on 2026 LEGO set 60508 (Police Train Heist). Being a brand new LEGO set it uses a lot of new parts not available in my last-updated-in-2019 LDD program, so please bear with me on the missing parts! I updated the livery to match 777 as much as possible, though the windscreen should really be red - but there is zero chance of that happening due to it's absurd price! The rear of Triple 7. In comparison to 777 and it's straightforward heritage, 1206 is a real hodge-podge of ideas and sets. First there is the color scheme of 2014 set 60052 (Cargo Train), the cab from 2004 set 10133 (BNSF locomotive), bits of 2011 set 10219 (Maersk Train) and the same bogies from 60508 as used on Triple 7. This loco is mostly complete, just missing a few prints and four bracket parts for the ditch lights. Rear view of the 'hero' locomotive, 1206. Thoughts? UPDATE 5/2/26: Here is the current real-world construction progress on the main two diesel locomotives from the film Unstoppable. The hero engine, 1206 (in blue) is the most complete of the two, while runaway engine 777 (in red) is much farther from being finished. As of this morning, these two engines have had their remaining parts ordered, and should be completed soon. Keep your eyes peeled for the final pictures in the coming weeks! Murdoch17 Posted May 1 Author Posted May 1 UPDATE: Okay, so I found all but 52 parts for 1206, and these remaining $15 worth of parts were ordered this morning for that loco... although I still need to obtain magnets and bogie plates from my local Lego resale shop as this point. As for Triple 7, that one is being modified more to bring it up to better match 1206 in level of detail, as before it was a bit barebones. When I get done with these fixes, and after I find as much as possible from my own collection, then I'll order 777 as well. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted May 2 Posted May 2 I remember the film, and the extraordinary part played by Denzel Washington while the locomotive ran without being able to be stopped! The locomotive was like these models! Quote
Darkkostas25 Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Yeay. Nice that it`s almost complete and will be in bricks :D Quote

I was gonna wait until they were finished in real life, but since you mentioned tankers... I was looking through old instructions I have, and came upon some for a ribbed Octan tanker car from the (sadly defunct) Railbricks site, downloaded circa 2014. The underlying 20-stud long frame of the tanker is new to give it more than two wheels per car, but the tank itself is mostly accurate to the original design - minus the ladders it originally had. I then recolored it into three new color schemes: plain black, white with red stripe, white with black, and then there's the original Octan colors. I don't know who designed the original MOC way back when, but it was (and still is!) a neat usage of parts. EDIT 8 hours after original post: Here is the finalized version of the petrochemical tanker car as will be built IRL. I plan on making two in this color scheme to start, but who knows what the future holds? Edited May 4 by Murdoch17 Quote
Murdoch17 Posted Wednesday at 09:02 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 09:02 PM (edited) @LEGO Train 12 Volts @Darkkostas25 @Daiman @FGMatt Since I finished my LEGO versions of Allegheny and West Virginia Railroad locomotives 777 and 1206 from the 2010 film 'Unstoppable' in the real world (I really, really need to photograph them!) I have been mulling over some more modern-style freight cars for Triple 7 to pull, with these eight cars being explicitly made for that purpose. The two petrochemical tanker cars were mandatory, as was a hopper car for the end of the train and at least one bulkhead flatcar as they were all in the movie at various points. The two boxcars made sense, and the open freight car (seen without any log load here because LDD was throwing a fit about it) just was something I don't usually do and have none of in my collection. (NOTE: the hopper car and open freight wagon are recolored / modified versions of sets 10017 and 10013, respectively) The parts for most of these cars (boxcars excepted) have been recently ordered and / or already built. Closeup pictures of these eight cars will be uploaded when they are all finished in real life. Until then, keep your eyes open for the finished real world pictures of 1206 and 777, which should (hopefully) be coming late next week! Thoughts? (If I tagged you it's because you commented before!) LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted Thursday at 07:22 PM Posted Thursday at 07:22 PM You did well to tag me because I'm curious to see the wagons in real brick! About the tank wagon I definitely like the black version. Quote
