Menapian Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Lego released an Enterprise-D set last year with a great selection of the Next Generation cast as minifigures, but just a small display stand to line them up on. As an alternative, I've designed this bridge diorama using the Studio software. I've been rewatching TNG for the past few months and it was a really fun challenge trying to capture all the little details of the iconic bridge design using real bricks. There are lots of reference photos to work from, but my favourite resource was this 3D rendering of the bridge on Gene Roddenberry's archive website - well worth a visit for any Star Trek fan! It was very satisfying figuring out how to recreate details like the Okudagram console graphics using stacked coloured plates, or the curved wooden panel using dinosaur tails and candle pieces. The diorama is done at a compressed scale compared to the actual filming set, but I wanted something that could comfortably fit on a shelf alongside the Enterprise while still capturing all the most important elements. I'm currently working away on a modular extension which will add the viewscreen portion of the bridge, and which could be attached or displayed separately. I'd love to do a few more TNG-inspired models while we're waiting for more official sets from Lego. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this design! Quote

The compressed format works well. Yeah, making it compact enough to sit on a shelf was important to me - when I build it for real, I want it to fit either beneath or alongside my Enterprise! The dimensions according to Studio are roughly 25 x 18 x 10 cm. I had thought about trying to include a spinning turbolift like the one in the SW Dark Trooper Attack set, but didn't get around to it with this version. Maybe designing it as a kind of modular bolt-on would work. Picard's ready room with its desk and mementoes would be a fun space to recreate too. Here's a work-in-progress preview of the modular viewscreen section I've been working on. There's also a starfield box with space for microscale models, so the Enterprise crew can enjoy the view! This section can be attached to the main bridge diorama, or separated and displayed alongside it. Edited March 6 by Menapian Quote

It's an awkward little shape and took quite a while to get looking right, considering it's just a handful of pieces. I've completed the viewscreen module now and have a few more pictures to share. As well as the microscale ships and space scenery, I had fun creating some 2D tile art panels depicting the various alien species who hail the Enterprise. Quote

I've actually just managed to get the instructions for both MOCs up on Rebrickable, so you can check them out if you're interested: MOC-256838 - Star Trek TNG Enterprise-D Bridge Diorama MOC-257015 - Star Trek TNG Enterprise-D Viewscreen My Bricklink orders for the diorama just recently arrived, so I've now actually built the main set - a very nice home for the minifigs, and it fits well on the shelf with the Enterprise. I know we're supposed to be getting a TOS diorama set later this year, but Picard deserves to sit down too. He's been through a lot! Quote

Unfortunately that Tasha Yar head isn't available in Light Nougat as a real piece - only Medium Brown. But there is a pretty close equivalent for the frowning expression in this head, if you want to put together a custom Tasha. I was looking around for other custom crew options, and I reckon the new General Tagge head from the UCS Death Star works pretty well for Miles O'Brien. It's also surprisingly cheap from quite a few Bricklink stores at the moment, considering it comes from a $1,000 set. Quote

When you get the MOC on Rebrickable (Enterprise-D Bridge Diorama) it should give you both the PDF instructions and a full parts list. You can export that parts list to a seller site like BrickLink, and figure out which parts you might already have to put towards the build. Then you can do an automatic search to find the rest of the pieces at the lowest price from BrickLink shops in your region. Hope that helps! Quote
