Wow, an actually well done survey? Short, with easy to answer Yes/No questions? How is this possible?

Usually the offsite surveys we're asked to do here are terrible; impossibly long with vague unanswerable questions.

Posted (edited)

I voted, but some were hard to answer only "Yes" or "No" without a "Sometimes" or "Maybe" type of choice; not that you should have changed the poll options, as simplicity is a benefit.

Spoiler

1. Buy a set just for a few pieces?

Spoiler

Not specifically, but I do like to review new sets for new and useful pieces.  My go-to place for MOC parts or missing parts for sets is BrickLink.

2. Buy used sets?  Absolutely!  I have a large collection of sets from the late 1980's through early 2000's mostly acquired in secondhand bulk lots and sorted back into original sets.  It is my way of

Spoiler

treasure-hunting, and this is one of my favorite aspects of the hobby due to nostalgia and sharing my childhood experience with my nephews today.

3. Yellow or Flesh?

Spoiler

Yellow all the way, as I am a classic LEGO enthusiast, not a licensed-theme collector.  Though skin tones add diversity, I prefer the simplicity of the original yellow skin, maybe due to nostalgia.  I can also acknowledge that this could be a harder preference to hold if my skin were darker, though.

4. EuroBricks at work?

Spoiler

Yes, mostly due to not having internet at home since it would be too much a distraction for me (maybe it still is at work, though...); I do try to limit it to break times and do not spend very long each day these days viewing EuroBricks.

5. Find LEGO pieces outdoors?

Spoiler

Not really, only on a few occasions where I lost pieces as a child by taking them outside and finally found them after searching.  It was considered a very bad idea in my household to take our LEGO sets outside, so this rarely happened.  One notable time was in January of 2002 after my brothers and I got the entire Arctic subtheme collection over several Christmas gifts and we wanted to try them on real snow... we lost a few accessories that were never found to this day.

6. Dream about LEGO?

Spoiler

Most definitely, quite often as a child and still common today as an adult.  Many times related to the imaginative adventures and storytelling; often also about finding the dream haul of old sets from a garage sale or eBay lot.  I even developed a somewhat-lucid-dream tactic of always making sure to put the extra special minifigures in my pocket in my dream as that was the way to get them for real after waking up; of course, it never actually worked, but I tried many times!

 7. Visited LEGOLAND?

Spoiler

Yes, once as an adult in 2015 in Orlando, Florida with some of my family including my youngest siblings (~10-12 years old at the time).  They enjoyed the rides; I enjoyed the Miniland builds.  I still prefer building and playing with 90's LEGO sets way more than LEGOLAND...

8. Keep $ spent a secret?

Spoiler

Not specifically, no, but I do not disclose the full amount spent as it would just be unnecessarily misunderstood.  I will often talk about some expenditures as well as secondary market values and do not shy from admitting that I have spent a lot, but it just does not seem productive or needed for me to fully disclose for justification or something like that; many people would not understand.  My siblings have had their own childhood collections, so they know it costs money to acquire a collection.  They are just glad that I was and still am way more into it than them and am willing to spend my money to share the sets with their children so they do not have to spend the money themselves.  It is really a win-win situation since they save money and I get to do one of my favorite things in sharing the nostalgia for my favorite pastime.

9. Build sets above my age level?

Spoiler

Yes, probably in part due to having 2 older brothers.  I never found the sets too challenging to build, even from a young age, though most of my interest was and still is on the System sets targeted around ages 4-14.  I just got (and still get) the sets I wanted regardless of age recommendation.  This is also true for my nephews: I share the sets I like and am willing to help when needed, but like to challenge them with sets above their age level and am not surprised that they already have developed abilities beyond those recommendations.  My then-6-year-old nephew built a surprising amount of the 10497 Galaxy Explorer (even most of the Technic structure portions) without needing my help.  18+? Whatever...

10. Sets without minifigures?

Spoiler

My strongest connection is to the 90's System sets with minifigures for roleplay adventures, so I love my minifigures, but there are plenty of more-recent sets I have bought without minifigures, particularly sets from the Botanical line.  For my miniature models, though, I always prefer them to be minifigure-scale with plenty of minifigures.

This was a fun and simply direct poll!

Nice that you like this poll. It was just an impulse thing I did. I had planned for a couple of more questions but I reached the maximum number of questions allowed.

When I was about ten years old I had a dream that I had all Futuron sets. At that time Futuron had not been available for several years and I only had some Futuron sets from my early childhood. The dream felt so real that when I woke up I thought that I still had them. I was so disappointed when I realized it was a dream. A couple of years ago that dream came true when I acquired the last of the sets that were missing in my Futuron collection.

I very often have dreams of going to a toy store and finding new Space sets, with big, glorious trans-colored windscreens. And sometimes there is a new catalog of sets there I can flip through, and I see all the new Space sets coming out, and then I try to find them in the store. I generally do find them, and end up carrying multiples of new sets in a big armful. And in those dreams I always feel an overwhelming gratefulness, almost like I'm getting away with something. Like "I can't believe the suckers that run this store are taking my worthless cash in exchange for priceless Space Lego sets."

And when I wake up, I'm even glad I had the dream. Because that ain't ever going to happen in real life.

That's 53 years ago - I simply don't remember ... so I replied "no". But who knows ...

To be honest, for me, LEGO is just some sort of “enabling” building method. Right now, I am using LEGO gear racks, the "enclosed" old worm gear drive, Technic bushes, wooden and metal pieces, Tenka Cubic elements and a lot of other stuff, to simply get my Pantasy Steam Punk Airship up in the air and circling the layout below ...

Have fun and all the best

More recently I have dreamt about building huge Space worlds with monorails and launch pads with spaceships. I often dream about Lego themes I've been concentrating on and planning MOCs for. In my dreams I have unlimited bricks and minifigs to build with. Then the alarm clock wakes me up and I have to go to work. At least it is Saturday tomorrow so that dream a little bit longer about the fantastic world of Lego Space and other themes.

My favourite question was about finding random parts outdoors  In remember two distinct pieces I've found in the last coupla years, namely a 2x2 yellow Duplo brick and a pretty badly scratched Minecraft sword, both in the middle of the street. I took both of them with me :snicker:

As for the work question, very interesting...over half of Eurobricks users are liars.

...or they have no work

Nice survey!
Only piece I ever found in the street was an old Fabuland elephant minifig.

Well, that‘s a cool find!

It wasn't so special when I found it, which was in a time Fabuland was still in stores and had like none of my interest. I should still have it though since I never got rid of any Lego I ever owned.
