1Panda Posted July 20 Posted July 20 (edited) Assuming the cat and koala ARE in this series then it’s not really guessing if we know that, so I’m going to gamble and change some of my guesses. also I kinda want to change some of the other ones and I have still not seen the pictures of those two that some people are talking about. and lastly if we are blessed with actual animal molds instead of all costumes can our guesses count for those too? Same with the satyr legs. Medusa was crazy, you didn’t even need to feel the packets in that that series - the bag was so distended by the tail piece that you could recognise it from the other side of the store! Quote
JohnTPT17 Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Forgot to get my guesses in: 1. Bear Costume (New color of the existing mold - hopefully with cub, might just have a honey pot) 2. Branchiosaurus Costume (either green or blue) 3. Parrot Costume (cracker accessory) 4. Frog Costume (fly accessory) 5. Minotaur (moveable head, unlike the old one) 6. Mouse Warrior (Like the Crazy Bricks customs) 7. Dodo Reviver (scientist with a molded dodo) 8. Veterinarian (with a new cat mold, with either a cast for a broken bone or a cone of shame) 9. Dog Walker (kid with a dog and leash) 10. Magical Breeder (Wizard-looking minifig with a unicorn or dragon) And the already-leaked Koala Costume and Cat Costume to round it off. Tried to limit myself to just six costumes, even though I have a hunch there will be a lot more than that. Quote
Karalora Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I don't have a guess, but I do want to note that this year's City Advent Calendar includes a minifig in a polar bear costume. Whether this makes a different bear costume more or less likely is left as an exercise for the reader. Quote

I just checked out the pics of that set, and it includes a Christmas Classic Space sweater torso! The set is pretty cute in general, so I might have to get it now. Quote

The light blue air tanks in the Riviera set are another example, albeit a different end if the price scale Quote

Biting my nails where we will get the helmet!!! Quote

JohnTPT17 Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Only got two of my ten guesses right... That's what I get for trying to think of things besides animal costumes, I suppose! Quote
1Panda Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I got 3 but could have had 4 if I kept the dolphin instead of changing it and if I had kept the koala and cat like every one else I could have had 5 but I left them out so I could use my 12 guesses on the other 10 also a new parrot sounds good Quote

Borex Posted August 9 Posted August 9 2 good ( not the cat and koala, i didn’t wrote them down) and one maybe. I mean an Oran utang is a monkey, so i just need to see it first to judge if i guessed right Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Since the koala and cat obviously don‘t count, I also only got 2 right (frog & dolphin). Does anyone have more than 2? 4 hours ago, Borex said: an Oran utang is a monkey Wrong, they‘re apes Quote

The real question, then, is whether the Librarian makes allowances for language barriers. I mean, even allowing for that (and I honestly don’t know how you do, given the range of potential first languages and idiosyncrasies with common names, which range much more than just by language) ‘orangutan’ is one of three closely related, and very visually similar, species, ‘monkey’ is a broader group of (hundreds of) species. Karalora Posted August 17 Posted August 17 (edited) I'm not a linguist, but languages develop in response to the experiences of the speakers, and words like "ape," "monkey," and (for example) the French two-for-one "singe" originated well before the Age of Exploration introduced Europeans to the full range of creatures we now know as apes and monkeys. When the only primates known to natural philosophy (not yet "science") are Egyptian baboons, Barbary macaques, and chimpanzees, you might well use the same word to categorize all three. I'm pretty sure that even in English, "ape" and "monkey" were used pretty interchangeably until zoologists started to nail down the differences between them. To be pedantic about it, "monkey" is a terribly imprecise term--all the creatures we English speakers call monkeys do not comprise a proper monophyletic clade; the ancestors of catarrhines (Old World monkeys and apes) and platyrhines (New World monkeys) diverged as ancestral prosimians and their subsequent "monkeyness" is a case of parallel evolution. This conversation is happening on a LEGO forum. Pretty wild, huh? Edited August 17 by Karalora Quote
