Hello everyone,

I'd like to show you my Classic Town project here. I realize that assembling and arranging sets according to instructions is not an outstanding achievement. But maybe I can reach at least a few nostalgic fans here. :classic:

Legoland Classic Town

The town mainly covers the catalogs from 1988 to 1991 (yes, the Space Shuttle program came later). While it's very individual and subjective, for me personally, some of the most beautiful and formative sets were in circulation during those years. Starting with the all-electric 12V train with all its features, such as electric switches, signals, and level crossings, through timeless sets like the parking garage with gas station and the harbor sets, to the iconic airport shuttle. Of course, there were other beautiful sets after 1991. However, the switch to 9V train and the printing of individual faces on the minifigure heads, among other things, represented a real turning point for me. I just like the simple smiley faces of the classic figures. They cheer you up immediately when you see them, and there are no predefined characters. :classic:

I limited myself to using only original sets for my layout. Furthermore, I didn't change the plate layout, meaning the sets were integrated into the city just as they were built on the baseplates according to the instructions. So, without moving them on the baseplates. I also strictly avoided stacking baseplates on top of each other or anything like that. Just baseplate to baseplate. However, with the monorail, it presented me with a bit of a challenge, as there's a gap of four studs between the airport and the city center.

The lighting also basically consists only of original 12V parts. I'd like to expand on these further. I also want to bring a bit more life into the city in the form of minifigures, signs, and greenery. I'm also envisioning a background in the classic style. I'll be happy to keep you updated. Thanks for reading and watching! :classic:

Best regards,
Sebastian

That's my childhood right there! (if only I had a room and a budget that size when I was a kid...) Amazing job making it all fit so well together while staying loyal to the designs.
Looking forward especially to your idea of more greenery, it looks quite busy already so something like a park would be a great addition.

6481 Construction Crew was one of my first Town sets. Seeing that one and so many other sets that were part of my childhood makes me very happy. This whole Town project looks like the pictures from the old catalogs I used to look at for hours (I still do that from time to time). A friend of mine had the harbor sets and they are rally fantastic and we used to play with them a lot. You have really succeeded in placing all the sets perfectly and the same goes for the baseplates and overall layout.

I love seeing the railway activities and the port so well integrated and connected! :wub_drool:

The 7823 overhead crane set is in a perfect strategic position. :excited:

The presence of the airport is the icing on the cake!

The hidden wires are an added bonus.

You still have this ligjt grey electric box for the ights and crossings working! I had it, but couldn't repair it, but I still keep my 12v track, and have a barely working 12v notor so cool to see these 12v better working

Lovely!❤ I found a 7745 for a good price. When I get a 12V freight train, it will be my idea to start building a small city like yours. Great job!!!

Collection this, or still have it working, is enough achievement. I always spent time at old skool city / 12v layouts at conventions. There is something about this that just draws you in. Something that lego (or we) lost with the new stuff. Yes it is al prettier, but it lost a lot on playability and this vibe.

I really like how it looks and all works together. I would maybe add a freight line right to the docks for a train.

Thank you so much for all the positive feedback and inspiration! I'm really pleased. And I'm glad to revive some of the nostalgia for some of you. :classic: I'll be happy to keep you updated here about any further additions. But I still need to work on my photography skills.

Takes me right back to my childhood that!

The only thing that irks me a little is that there's no way for the yellow truck to get on and off of the quay... you could always take the ramp out of the middle and replace it with a grey brick sea-wall, and add the ramp to the corner baseplate on the left end of the docks.

Wow, this is fantastic - thanks for sharing! 1973-81 was more core childhood Lego period so this really hits the mark as far as nostalgia goes. Well done!

Great tabletop town!

Thank you for sharing it with us. It is like a scene in the LEGO catalogues from more than 30 years ago. How much pleasure I have had studying them.

The builds are simple to current standards, but at the same time they are charming and triggering creativity.

I noticed Vacation Hideaway in the corner of your layout. I think it's a great example of how simple, but charming and cheerfull LEGO sets were at that time.

I'm curious if there are any sets you still would like to add in the future.

I wish you a lot of fun enjoying and developping your town!

Yes, you observed that very well.:thumbup: The truck can't drive down from the quay wall. It's still a construction site, so to speak. But the truck is simply there as an advertising object. It's also somewhat out of date (1997).

Yes, the Vacation Hideaway is also a little gem. It perfectly represents the era. It's simple yet full of loving details that capture the imagination.
Of course, there are more sets I'd like to add. Currently, I've added the 6369 Auto Repair Shop, the 6671 Utility Repair Lift, and the 6613 Telephone Booth. :classic:
