Paul B Technic Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Interesting... I was hoping for a 8043 replacement, I guess this is a good start. Quote
Satisfied Posted May 1 Posted May 1 He seems to have electric function, but only manual shifting? Do you have a battery box? Cannot be remotely controlled Quote

Now if only it was a motorized pneumatic model Actually wait no what the actual hell, this sucks. There's no drive to the tracks??? Wtf is the point of a model like this if they're gonna price it like an RC model and then skimp out on functions? It's not even difficult to implement drive. Edited May 1 by Bartybum Quote
Stereo Posted May 1 Posted May 1 (edited) So 4 functions are the 3 arm sections (base, elbow, wrist) and a tool swap? Reasonable way to use 1 motor I guess. The 3x3 triangle panel (yellow/black on the sides) looks useful in general for style stuff. Edited May 1 by Stereo Quote

Auroralampinen Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Ok, i started to wonder, what are these specialized pieces. And can they have other uses and purposes🤔. Quote

Firstly they are usefull so you dont't have wired steps on your model like cab on 42053 set (the only false imho), second this helps a lot someone like me who don't like stickers to enable making more realistic shapes than before... Auroralampinen Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Hmm... 2ttoys boldly says, that this has advanced pneumatic functions🤔. Quote
Oh_Hi_Mao Posted May 1 Posted May 1 So many mixed emotions about this. It does look amazing. No control+ and motorised functions? Yay! No powered tracks and superstructure? What a bummer. And all this for 400 euros? The last motorised functions set was also licensed l, very complex Airbus Helicopter in 2022, for 200 euros and 300+ pieces less... I can't comprehend the value for money here. I might just went from a guaranteed purchase to a pass, even for 300 euros on a discount it feels overpriced for what if offer. Quote
Unbrickme Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Should've been full RC with control+ AND a gearbox. similar to 8043. I'll definitely modify it to make it like the 8043 Quote

But this price tag of 400€ for 1 motor and dumb battery box is nonsense. 1 hour ago, 1gor said: Triangle panels? Dito. They seem to be completely flat on the small side but have some connection points on the hypotenuse, which maybe is exactly made 4 studs in length? Quote
Auroralampinen Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Well, now the official lego page is up:). https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/volvo-ec500-hybrid-excavator-42215 Quote
Bartybum Posted May 1 Posted May 1 8 minutes ago, Jundis said: But this price tag of 400€ for 1 motor and dumb battery box is nonsense. MSRP is a completely arbitrary number. The actual actual value of this set will be determined by wholesale costs and backdoor deals with retailers, to the point that I think we'll be able to find this for 200-250 EUR very soon. The Zetros price absolutely plummeted during its run, down to nearly half-price. I think the REAL damage we should be talking about is the missed opportunity cost. How long do we now have to wait before we get another non-RC, motorized excavator flagship with a full suite of functions? Another five years? They had one chance here to make it, and all they could come up with was four individual functions that can't be operated simultaneously. Are the bean counters now going to use this set as an excuse to never do a non-RC flagship scale excavator again? This is an 18+ set, FFS. It's a gorgeous model, but it's a half-baked shelf queen. Like god dammit, there's no excuse to sh*t the bed this hard. Quote
Unbrickme Posted May 1 Posted May 1 gearbox has four functions. first three are obvious. lower arm, middle arm, and bucket. where's the fourth one???? Quote

From lego page. Use the lever to select from 4 functions that move the excavator’s boom and arm and LEGO hammer and shovel tools. Manual features include the opening cabin doors, moving tracks and a rotating excavator body. With its realistic movements, this set makes a great gift for adults who enjoy building advanced LEGO sets or construction vehicles. Quote

I wonder if what really happened here was: Designer/s were working on an RC model They got rug pulled and had to remove almost all the C+/PU components halfway through development They had to pivot to a non-RC, motorized model and didn't have enough time to design a full powertrain, leading to completely barebones functions with an extremely simplified gearbox Management refused to give the designers more time, or to budge on the price point Edited May 1 by Bartybum Quote
Unbrickme Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Are those long balck linear actuators the first time we are seeing them in this set or did they appear in sets before? Quote
Jockos Posted May 1 Posted May 1 1 minute ago, Unbrickme said: Are those long balck linear actuators the first time we are seeing them in this set or did they appear in sets before? In black they are new here. In size they were first in 42100 then in 42108. They haven't appeared since then until now. Quote
