Personally I couldn't care less about soapbox or rides.

I'd prefer to see more of the cheap great vehicles than goofy ideas for 10€ racers.

I agree. The best solution would be small normal sets.

Those feel like city in the end of 90s. Luckily its just a small sub-theme.

Yes. Such sets have no place among the other City sets. Rides, 4+ and soapbox should be sold under a different theme such as the old Basic theme or something similar.

I see a possible explanation for the presence of "riders" in this wave, and likely throughout 2026: toddlers. There must be a reason why Lego chose this theme in its market research, and it could be that children are no longer fascinated by Duplo, seeing their parents play with more "mature" bricks—and, I venture, parents themselves play with their children more with classic bricks than anything else. Putting 2+2 together, it's a real possibility that this will be the new paradigm for introducing middle-aged children to Lego.

I hope, in the end, they not abandon soapbox sets this year, it was and is a nice idea to me.

I’m still yet to see a police themed soapbox set

The novelty baby figs seem to do well, going by the space ones at least so I imagine that's a big part of it

Sorry, I'm not impressed with this wave at all.  The only one I'll likely buy is the LEGO Delivery Truck.  I hope the summer wave is more impressive.  I'm also hoping the Rides sets get discounted quickly because I want those baby figs and PAB prices are a bit much for them so a better deal to grab them in sets that are on sale.

I think CITY is evolving LEGO's biggest theme. Since 2024- we have been blessed.

There is no doubt that Chris has a vision and are working very structured towards that goal. I have not any interest in construction City sets, but think those are especially impressive the last years, and the tractor now is very good looking. However it is very focused on vehicles and a lot less focused on animals compared to the previews years. I am sure kids love the new City stuff, but for me personally I only buy City sets with a lot of animals.. We still get some amazing new animals like pigeons and fox, but it seems we are back to having zero expectations in that regard towards the January wave (even if it's not only police and firefighter sets ) and hope we get something good for summer :shrug_oh_well:

With airport being apparently grouped under codename "My City", I do have some hope for 3 other structures/location sets for summer.

Coastguard HQ harbour/building could be nice, maybe with another seperate Marina set (could connect to 2024 Harbour since that one had seperate modules)

Tractor from 2025 (4+ and mini magazine gift) and 2026  could mean maybe another Farm set, since this 2026 one clearly has a new trailer system to put things on the back/front.

Well that's guaranteed!  The theme didn't disappoint with the airport, hopefully it stays the same for whatever comes in June.

I'm thinking if a new hospital drops next year, medical vehicles keep releasing and perform well. Last hospital was also part of My City (which I assumed was dead ever since June 2022).

A new City Center or Town Plan could happen as well, nothing shows that the design team is looking to ditch older common structures, a possibility as well?

And a new workshop or car garage. Stamp said the Scrapyard supposedly matches with the Tow Truck but I have my doubts.

Might happen in 2027, probably under the coast guard subtheme. Hopefully it gets the airport treatment of focusing on the base and not the vehicles.

A new harbour might happen as there's signs of several flops in this new era of City. As far as I'm concerned, the Harbour, Tower, Scrapyard and Train Station were flops. Don't think they'll try to release anything to pair or connect with these. Hopefully next time it's a proper harbor and not a mix. Wouldn't that be better: standalone harbour and standalone marina?

I agree standalone would be better, either Cargo OR Leisure.

Friends has been knocking it out again with their Room sets, and now for 2026 the Tiny Supermarket set is only €20 and packed with printed pieces , food items and a cart, and Friends buildings suggest making your own buildings more too, both interior and exterior the smaller rooms/shops can easily be integrated into MOCs. (and I don't mind using minidolls and minifigs together even tho some cases you have to adapt , like seating)

City had this 8x8 / 8x16 system, and Creator 3-in-1 had it for a while too , but none of that seems to have stayed, even the French Fries food truck isn't compatible with 8x8 burger stand as the wheel arches limit it, only needed to be 1 plate higher...

Airport is nice but a missed chance for a play feature by spinning the radar would spin the arrivals luggage belt and X-Ray.

We get FIRE base every 4-5 year. Same with POLICE base. Prison Island rare. Same idea in every bigger CITY/subtheme. Chris has said this himself. So we have a FIRE base and that is why next might come 2029-2030. They are not making every second year new BASE.

Think about JANUARY 2026 wave.

  • prints, so many prints
  • engines
  • 2 figures in front  doors
  • new subtheme
  • Ghost Guards after 10 years
  • tractor like no any other
  • CITY Police Train
  • Airport Fire Truck
  • look all minifigures, variety
  • From cheaper sets more expensive
  • CITY Christmas calendar, not every theme gets those
  • Variety in colours, logos, outfits, branding!?

Chris Stump is GOD-level designer. He has probably the most talented LEGO-theme ever. I think he talks about Simon a lot. Who is he?

I know City is taking a new approach to the way they handle past sets and don’t think immediately of replacing them, but I don’t have such high hopes for a long shelf life of the newest fire station. Weird Design of the structure and barely any space for the land vehicles. The Police Station wasn’t made in this new era and a replacement is long overdue, no matching color scheme and not much compatibility between other police sets. Fire Station is set to retire in 2027 and the police station in 2026.

And who’s Simon?

Simon Lucas is the Creative Lead for City since summer 2023, the head of the team.

No, he’s the guy behind the Monkie Kid theme.

So that's why some of the City sets from 2024 and 2025 looked weird.

EDIT: Funny I thought the former Speed Champions lead was in charge of City.

Chris Stamp was the lead for Speed Champions and guy behind the 8 stud wide cars. He gives the vehicles more detail and strength. As to Simon he did introduce the new police style and fire department color scheme, but his main focus is on playability. I do agree a few sets looked weird, mainly the Harbour, Tower and Fire Station. But no matter who’s the guy behind what. I find it odd that now there’s no actual vehicle with license plates, it feels out of place.

Personally I think the leads for the City theme should be a team effort. I'll admit, it may cost a teeny bit more, but in the long run its good for the theme itself. Chris Stamp can obviously be the lead designer for the vehicles. But imo, they should get another lead to handle the building aspect of the City theme. Whoever came up with the idea for that airport should get a promotion.

Well whoever led the team in summer 2023, that's the one we need. 2023's My City was a stacked wave of buildings. I don't think My Limits themed sets are what people want, Am I right?

I can say the same about winter 2021 and all of 2022.

You talking about the My City thing, right?

Yeah! I tell you. I remember all those buildings we got during that time period.

2021

  • Pizzeria - with fencing school on top. Love the downtown style design
  • Car Wash - complete with a charging port. I assume Lego City doesn't use fuel anymore
  • Bike Shop - Nice little build
  • Bakery - another nice little build. Not bad, but I prefer the doughnut shop from 2019.
  • Condo/Family Home - This is used as a condo in my town.
  • Small Prison Island - I also have this one.
  • Skate Park - Small, but cool

2022

2023

Man I wish I could go back in time and get some of those sets I missed.

Chris said that they wanted to modernise FIRE for example. I have 2 of those FIRE bases. At the moment making a MOC from them. I try to connect M-Tron with it. That Space CMF series.

As with most things, variety is essential. We all like different things and the designers won’t be able to please everybody all the time. They do therefore need to ensure there is something for everyone. I much prefer City sets that focus on leisure themes like the beach, outdoors activities and rural life (e.g. the Paradisa and City ‘Leisure’ sub theme of the early 90s - beaches, air shows, rafting, river canyon, non-cargo marinas, plus the wildlife exploration sets).

I don’t begrudge anybody into Formula One or emergency services getting things that reflect their interests but we should always have a bit of something for everyone. I don’t really see anything worth me getting in the Jan 2026 wave.

Focus should also be on quality and not adding ‘extras’ to sets to bump up the price (e.g. I loved the gorillas last year but can’t discovering gorillas in the African highlands not be exciting enough without needing an oversized bright orange helicopter doubling the price of the set) and don’t get me started on stickers in £100+ sets. Ugh!

Oh, and please bring back the People Packs!

e.g.

…Fun at the Wedding

…Fun on Safari

…Fun at the Ski Resort
