The Death Star is rlly good for what it is. I strongly disagree with the designer's idea that the interior is more important. The inside of the death star is... boring. It's just all black/grey rooms with no visual differences outside the trash compactor. It's not like Cloud City where there's a great variety of locations. I suppose it's true that we spend more time inside the DS in the movies, but that doesn't mean we need to neglect the entire climax of the movie which was blowing up the thing... from outside. Hopefully people who like interiors will be happy with this and people like me who just want an actual display model of the exterior can wait another decade.

After reading a few reviews, I have to say: Yes, the DS thrives on compromises. I still like it. I only collected LSW from 1999 to around 2007/8 and had nothing to do with the brand after that. The dioramas brought me back two years ago, but I only collect those and the Starship collection. That probably makes me exactly the target audience for the new DS. Spending, for example, €850 on a single AT-AT or the Falcon would never occur to me. Is the DS perfect for $1,000? Absolutely not. I also don't believe excuses like the one regarding dual-molded legs, which I've already ordered on PaB. The question is the price. Can you expect a significant discount in the coming months, or should you say: $1,000 is still $1,000, and you take the GWP and have time to build over Christmas.

Speaking of building: How do you rate the availability of Plexiglas boxes? Without dust protection, the thing won't last long, especially with so many stickers.

Agreed. Missed opportunity to remake it for Mando S2.  So many missed out good imperial vehicles from Mando. ITT, Tie Outlander, Assault Lander, Turbo Tank…

An Imperial battle pack to supplement the DS, with 2 Navy troopers, 1 Stormtrooper, and 1 technician (with an accurate face with the headset), would've been ideal.

I feel like they could have just done everybody a favor, kept the DS1 set's figures accurate, and put a reddish-brown chinstrap head in an Army Trooper/Stormtrooper battle pack. People who want an accurate DS figure setup are happy, people who want more colors for other OT era projects are happy, and you don't have to buy a figure exclusive to a $1000 set if you want to make a custom.

We really need a good versatile normal imperial Battlepack. It’s been far too long. Night Troopers and Snowtroopers are very planet locked units. We need a way to amass troops that can work on any planet or instillation (Stormtroopers, Shock Troopers, Scout Troopers, Navy Troopers and Army Troopers. Heck even shore troopers since they are seen as just security despite no beach in Mando S2)

I will choose to believe that all figures with heads like 3626pb1367 is a Spaarti clone from now on.

Syril was such a useful asset to the ISB that the Empire decided to make an army of him. Or perhaps Dedra was behind the cloning operation. There is no force in the universe that could reckon with a relentless army of simps.

If you’re looking to get it before the holidays, then there probably won’t be a discount soon. However, if you wait for double insider points, then you basically get $100 off.

I agree with your points about it being a dull interior and the being aimed at a very specific niche collector.
Bt your attitude is right; "It's not for me, I understand why others like it, I'm moving on".

I've stopped watching YouTube reviews of it because every single one comes across as whinging and entitled.

You got it for free, no matter how much you protest to the contrary, your opinion is tainted.
I don't care about the stickers and prints, is it annoying? Yes, but that horse has been beaten to death.
(The only exception being repeated patterns like the hanger arrows & control panels, that is a poor show)

I will never understand the craziness surrounding dual-molded legs, I just want enough figures to populate it.
(I actually think minifigs are becoming too detailed, but that's another discussion)

If it was a poorly executed $200 set, fine, complain away because that's reasonably accessible to most collectors.
But to go on and on about a $1k set you're not going to buy anyway? Just move on.

Honestly, if you aren't planning on building it until Christmas anyway, I wouldn't put hedging your bets on a discount out of the question. The GWP is a nice add-on, but worst case scenario you could brickset the parts for much less than even a 10% discount would be.

The set is very divisive among the hardcore fans who would spend $1000 on a lego set, it's $1000 to begin with, and I'm not sure how large of a factor adults who aren't generally into lego but would spend $1000 on a diorama collection would be, seeing as lego's own research seems to imply that crowd is more into non-minifig compatible stuff like all the midi-scales and statues they pump out. It's not unlikely lego holds out hope that the christmas season will increase sales and holds off on a discount, but I don't think it's out of the question that we see one, especially since even at a 5% discount you've more than made up for the cost of having to bricklink the GWP.

I agree in general- a stormtrooper/navy trooper battle pack in 2026 would have been a much better choice than 332nd redux, for instance- but I will point out that while the Night Troopers are currently planet locked, come fall 2026 I have a feeling we're going to see a lot more of them...

The concept of Dedra cloning Syril and him rediscovering what kind of monster she really is and completing the redemption he started in S2 would be an excellent story. It makes perfect sense as something she would have done, too, and could at least semi-fit into canon. She's resourceful, I'm sure she could find a way to the imperial remnant after escaping prison in the fall of the empire, and someone like Thrawn or Gideon is a far cry from the bureaucracy that jailed her.

I don't think that's fair. The people who got it for free and are recommending buying it, that you have to take with a grain of salt. The people who got it for free, are implicitly being used to sell the set, and are still telling you it's not worth it? I think that's a harsher condemnation of the set than someone who bought it themselves.

Yes, because to them, the item literally has no worth.
They won't savour every brick placement and building step, it's a job to them.

Don't forget that they have to appease both LEGO and their audience.
Jumping on the bandwagon and pooping on the biggest ever LEGO set is going to generate more traffic and clicks than going against the grain and being positive.

For the first point, I just don't agree. If somebody's given something for free, and is still telling me not to buy it, I would definitely put some weight to that.

For the second, I see your point a lot more here, but I'm still not convinced fully. I think there's just as many clicks to be made going against the grain, especially from engagement baiting. ("You're WRONG about the Lego Death Star" or "The Lego Death Star is ACTUALLY GOOD?" would definitely get a lot of angry comments driving up engagement.)

At the end of the day, if the people being supplied with the free product to promote it are warning you off, I'd say there's a good chance there are at least SOME flaws in the set.

As much as I want one, the bionicle community's been at this for forever to little avail. Aside from G2 (which by all accounts was preplanned for as soon as the preceding constraction theme's sales flagged and didn't actually have anything to do with fan support), the best we've gotten for the theme is 1/20th of a classic set and a GWP. The only truly successful fan campaign I can think of is the 501st battle pack, which... does not bode well for how we'd have to act to get one.

Still, it could always show up in TMAG or the HTTE movie, which would drastically increase it's chances. Thrawn's always been a fan of powerful starfighters...

You have my (laser) sword. (Although I'm looking at all the monkey paws lined up and wondering which one will curl first. Advent calendar? Polybag? Keyring? Place your bets folks!)

Not much to add on the DS that's not been said already (too expensive, too big, doesn't interest me in the same way the Venator or Falcon do). It does reinforce my feeling that this is LSW's weakest year for a while.

For a $1000 slice of Death Star with stickers, nope. But that is me.

For $1500 with no stickers and the back half a sphere.  Yes! Please take my money..half of the time I could display it as a diorama and the other time as a model.

Death Star looks awful without minifigs in it. Granted, the previous two do too but they weren’t $1000.

Well yeah, but that was to be expected, wasn't it? It's only natural that a giant diorama representing various scenes filled with a variety of characters would look lifeless without any minifigures on display. I think, this would prove problematic for most location based sets. Since i display all my minifigures separately, it definitely is for me here and there. Sets like Boarding the Tantive IV look like a generic clinic if you exclude every minifigure.

Wild guess would be anew Endor set. Mixture of Ewok village and the shield bunker. No rumoured price or piece count could literally be anything

Having watched Solid Brix Studio's Death Slice review by now, my initial impressions remain unchanged in the grand scheme of things. I like it a lot for what it is, but it definitely ain't worth the price of admission. But reasonable value was never something i expected for the most expensive Lego set yet in the first place. However, what i will say, though, i can actually get behind the concept of making this huge diorama. And the Lego design team's reasoning of deeming the interior scenes as more important compared to what happens on the outside. They actually packed a bunch of neat functionality into this thing. The majority of modules look pretty polished. And of course it's nice to now be able to lay your eyes on everything at once. It's just still such a shame about the amount of compromises that have been made, most notably on the underdetailed minifigures. Rather than breaking some records left and right, a quality over quantity approach would have been the better call. Though i still stand by my point, considering this tall order, there had to be a way to get both class and mass.

The dark side Obi-Wan and Darth Revan minifigures will totally happen for some new RTG sets next year, right? Don't they dare doing this to red dress queen Padme... Even if the visual resemblance is there, i want the real deal for the respected, long overdue TPM version, not some mumbo jumbo alternative appearance. Already bothered me with Darth Jar Jar, magnificent as that meme material may be. Would be a lot easier to ignore if single Episode I sets wouldn't just release every five years or so. :shrug_oh_well:

Isn't Revan using his original design? I feel like they would have updated it from the 2014 version if they were considering releasing a new one.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. Though they can always throw him in there for good measure as well. Suffice to say, we will probably have more RTG sets on our hands.

Very much looking forward to my boyo Bane being revealed piece by piece. I would very much like to see some arm printing for the first time.
