Lemerbrix Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 Usually we would have gotten monkie kid sets revealed alongside the lunar new year sets, but this time, we haven't. Welp, it's been a good run everyone Quote
Lion King Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 Do we know what is new theme that will replace Monkie Kid in 2026? I’m sad to seee Monkie Kid going away with DreamZzz Quote

I’m sad to seee Monkie Kid going away with DreamZzz Hard to say whether there will BE a direct replacement. Monkie Kid always occupied an odd sort of niche, as a theme aimed at growing a particular market, which meant it co-existed alongside Ninjago and the other action themes of the day. Perhaps Lego feels like they no longer need a theme like that to secure their place in the Chinese market—there are also apparently more set numbers for the CTF (Chinese Traditional Festivals) sets for next year, so maybe their plan is to draw down Monkie Kid and replace it with a wider assortment of seasonal sets for that market. Black Falcon Posted November 12, 2025 Posted November 12, 2025 I still think that the production capacity of that theme went towards Pokemon, so I don´t think we will see a direct theme coming after it - but with Dreamzzz likely retiring too and them building new factories or increasing capacity on others, there should be more room for another theme once they are done at least. Of course they could aswell just expand other lines or make more smaller licensed themes but I would prefer if they make a new own theme again, where they can unleash their full creativity on. Doesn´t have to be a permanent theme, if they plan with 3 year themes or so like before would be fine too - unless of course the theme turns out so great that I would wish for it to stay around ;). Lion King Posted November 12, 2025 Posted November 12, 2025 Yeah, I don’t think there will be a new in-house theme following both Monkie Kid and Dreamzz’s departure to balance 50:50 ratio (between licensed and in-house). Quote
TeriXeri Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 (edited) 2026 will have a lot of big sets retired , in form of Space (most City + Icons Blacktron), Castle (2x Icons), Pirates (3-in-1), Vikings (Ideas), so far the only non-licensed replacement is a 3-in-1 castle replacing itself, that's 1 set out of many. Combined with the likely end of Monkie Kid, and possibly Dreamzzz (no summer sets?), there seems to be potential for something but I don't think it'll be announced this year. I figure 2 scenarios could happen Something announced early 2026 to launch late 2026 (might not happen with Dreamzzz still around and Pokémon releasing around Q2 2026 , likely after Pokémon day late-February). Something teased/announced mid to late 2026 for 2027. All I hope is that it's not replaced by yet another license. Edited November 13, 2025 by TeriXeri Quote

Yeah, i don’t think there would be another in-house theme as there are so many licensed themes coming in - big or small - and it’s kinda annoying that Lego tries to appeal everyone to buy them more than in-house themes. It’s nice to have City, Ninjago, Friends, Creator and a few non-licensed Icons sets (like Lion Knights’ Castle, Regneade, Modular Building, etc). It’s just shame that DreamZzz and Monkie Kid will leave the shelves soon. Quote
Lyichir Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 I wouldn't rule out a new big in-house theme next year. Don't forget that there'll be licensed themes cycling out too (Wicked, for example, is unlikely to persist long after the movie duology is complete). And it's not entirely uncommon for "Big bang" themes like Dreamzzz, Hidden Side, or Nexo Knights to debut in the middle of the year, instead of at the start. My comment about Monkie Kid in particular not necessarily getting a direct replacement had more to do with its specific positioning as a China-focused theme running alongside the other action theme du jour. Outside of evergreen themes like Ninjago and Friends, it's been rare in recent years for Lego to focus on more than one major action theme at a time (granted, the "action theme" category is mostly a fan construction). So Monkie Kid running alongside Hidden Side, then Dreamzzz was sort of a rare treat for fans of original story themes like that. I would not at all be surprised if Dreamzzz gets a replacement theme at least by 2027 if not earlier, but the idea of both it and Monkie Kid getting replacements is a lot less certain. Quote

Personally I was quite surprised that both of them seem to have surpassed the usual 3 year life span that is so common for Original Themes these days... Dreamzz lasted for 4 years, one year more than usual, and Monkie Kid lasted a whomping 6 years... double the usual lifespan we have come to expect of original in-house themes. Could this be a sign that both themes performed above expectations? I am curious what is the experience of the people in this thread with those themes, did you perceive them as being shelf warmers that were always on discount, or they tended to sell well in your experience? I am asking this because I think how well both those themes did could have a major impact of whether we will get any new original themes at all in the coming years, and whether what we will get will be something in a similar style, or whether we'll get something different entirely. Given how ridiculously many Licensed Themes overcrowd LEGO's product protofolio these days I wouldn't be shocked if it will be another few years before we get another proper original theme. I don't really have anecdotes about sales—and even if I did they'd be fairly irrelevant for Monkie Kid in particular, which was aimed primarily at success in the Chinese market with other regions secondary to that. Because of that particular positioning, it's hard to say whether there will be a direct replacement for Monkie Kid. I would not be surprised if there is a new theme to replace Dreamzzz though—possibly in the second half of 2026 or near the start of 2027. I certainly don't think Lego has lost faith in the idea of original themes, but "Big Bang" themes (themes like Ninjago, Chima, Nexo Knights, and Dreamzz designed with a major media and promotional push out of the gate) take time to develop and bring to market, so it's entirely possible that the next big thing isn't quite ready yet. Do you have any anecdotal experience about how well Dreamzz may have performed? Not really—been doing more of my shopping online recently, except when I make trips to my local Lego store (which rarely has issues with inventory regardless of theme). In terms of online discounts I haven't noticed too many deep discounts on Dreamzzz compared to other themes (usually discounts mostly on older sets, and mostly smaller discounts instead of larger ones that might suggest excessive inventory left over). The biggest exception I can think of was the Castle Nocturnia set, which saw 30-40% discounts near its retirement, possibly suggesting that as a much more expensive D2C set it might not have sold as much as forecast (which could also explain the cancellation of last year's planned D2C set for the theme, the very cool-looking Game Island Tower). But a theme perhaps not being able to sustain a $200 D2C set doesn't necessarily mean that the theme as a whole was unsuccessful. Edited January 2 by Lyichir Quote
