BP has the best design but the QAR has the better colors. I think I'm going for BP but not at that price. Waiting for a discount or the Sea Serpent remake gwp next year. Pirates is my second favorite theme right after Classic Castle and before Classic Space. I like Pirates of the Caribbean films in general but I prefer the more realistic Master and Commander One thing I'd add is that if it happens that you'd have to sell your ship – the value difference between LEGO BP & BlueBrixx QAR on the aftermarkets won't even be comparable in a couple of years, let alone a decade. RichardGoring Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I watched Tiago Catarino's review and Racing Brick's, both of which were very good. The way they talked about the build experience has tipped me into getting it. The way they both thought it was ludicrously overpriced entrenched my position to wait until a major offer or sale comes along because it really is very expensive, especially when compared to the Endurance. RichardGoring Posted August 28 Posted August 28 6 hours ago, Mister Phes said: Price: $329.99 USD That would be almost reasonable. But sadly it's $379.99 USD. Quote

Probably there are but I believe a large majority of the pieces in sets assembled/packed in the Czech Republic (or sometimes in the Hungarian Duplo factory) for the European market are made in Europe (mostly from the Billund factory). F1stzz Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Mike Psiaki, the lead designer of the Black Pearl, addressed community's concerns regarding the absence of Pintel & Ragetti in 10365 via stating the following: "[We] toiled over who to include, and Pintel & Ragetti were strong contenders to be included, but ultimately the lineup was already too large, so [we] needed to stop at some point – though you never know, there's always room for future sets, I'll say that" (imagine just nonchalantly saying the 8 minifigure pool in a $400 set is "already too large", LMAO ). If that's not a hint at LEGO currently having plans of reviving PotC in some capacity – I don't know what is A bit more info about Mike's work on the set can be found in Jay Ong's review of 10365 Quote

I think that I Will have a problem with the shelf... :( I'd presume without the keel part the height of the ship would be something between 54cm/21inch-60cm/23inch, but that's a rough estimate as I'm yet to see someone provide the proper measurements. F1stzz Posted August 28 Posted August 28 The more I watch the reviews & pictures of different stages of the build – the more I'm in love with the things done by the design team Guys, if you're looking forward to maybe removing one cannon from the rear in order to put some galley or a cell in there instead (or anything, really), be aware that it would be enough to simply detach the panels forming port & starboard for you to get a clear view of what's going on inside Literally a couple of moves & the stern portion of the lower deck is fully visible without having to tear the entire section apart, that's awesome! And the entire cannon mechanism looks easily transferable to other ships with how subtle & effective it is, I am now seriously considering if I could bring this one over to my 2020 Barracuda with a few adjustments, cuz the hull shaping at the gun deck level is almost identical anyway Quote
cehnot Posted August 28 Posted August 28 The review build on Jays site clearly shows that mods will be way easier than I thought. The ebtire gun desk will be easily visable and modified with beams and proper posts. The captains cabin appears to be a more complicated mod to open the space up, but i think it will be done with some thought. The forecastle and area below seem to be simple to change and make more accurate. Overall I think the way this ship was build will make mods and expansions quite easy without destroying the exterior design. Quote

Jay's addressed the point about the sails appearing too flat for some people & showed how the masts could be tweaked to achieve a slightly higher curvature. @Conde I think it might be of some use to you as well if you're afraid 54cm+ may be too tall of a model for you to comfortably fit on your shelf Quote

I suspect more could be done too, so I will certainly give it a go when I eventually get it. Quote

RichardGoring Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Just watched JANG's review of the RioBricks Black Pearl. I have nothing against other brands, but I don't like this one, but I'm not sure why. Anyway, it made me think if the odd name of 10365 as Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship is because they can't copyright or trademark 'Black Pearl', but they can for 'Jack Sparrow', so they're going for route of being able to sue copycats more easily instead of more successful marketing to sell more in the first place. icm Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Sort of like the trademark squatting that led to the Razor Crest set initially being called "The Mandalorian Bounty Hunter Transport" in Europe. Quote
Hook Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) I could easily spend the entire day saying what's good or not about this set, the amount of details missing, the proportions and so on. For me, the stern is one of my biggest issues... Therefore, let the MOC begin! P.S.: The GWP, although kinda cool, it's an easy pass por me. They could've done the chest of cursed Aztec Gold on top of a small rock island of the Isla De Muerta cave with Pintel and Ragetti... At least it would justify the Pearl's price. These companies are trying to carelessly push every MOC technique they've seen on the web into a "10210 Imperial Flagship" footprint – and even tho it's undoubtedly one of, if not the greatest "pirate ship" playset of all time, its design philosophy is 15 years old already. Add some really weird decisions like painting cannons in some orangey colour or making sails out of a cardboard material to the mix – and you end up with a big & highly functional, but rly questionably looking hotchpotch. 3 minutes ago, Hook said: Therefore, let the MOC begin! Love how people are already "studioing" this set & bringing some individual touches to it more than 2 weeks prior to the actual release Quote
PxChris Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I was really hoping for a more enticing GWP to offset that ridiculous asking price... Quote

Thank you so much :) Quote
doclord Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) I think Pintell, Ragetti, and Jack the Monkey are in a future icons set, possibly the Dutchman or QAR. Just to annoy completionists. Maybe the former two and the key dog in a boat? Edited August 30 by doclord Quote
