Hm, maybe there hasn't been a kid friendly version of Mad Hatter in a long time. He wasn't in The Batman cartoon and (from a Google search) it seems like he only cameod in the Brave and the Bold, not that I think a lot of kids are still watching those shows. Ironically kids might be most likely to know Hatter from the Lego Batman games. Granted, I don't know where kids would be introduced to Batwoman and Batwing either aside from Lego, but hey, I'm not going to complain about more obscure characters getting into sets. (As much as I would have really liked Mad Hatter or Cassandra Cain here!)

Maybe DC needs to do more with the hat-thief interpretation of Mad Hatter who wants to steal Batman's cowl for his collection. It's a really ridiculous premise for a villain but I think it's fun. :shrug_oh_well: I do get kind of tired of every villain being as dark and edgy as Joker from The Killing Joke.

edit: But then again, it is hard to justify not making Mad Hatter when it's not as if the pdf file versions are the only versions or that the character has a reputation for that like Deadpool does for being crass. He was one of the few comic villains who was on Batman 66. Meanwhile, Tarantula and March Harriet made it into The Lego Batman Movie, with Lego Joker winking at the audience that the cameo villains are "Probably worth a Google." :look:

Thankfully Hatter isn't too hard to make a purist custom of. There are big top hats in a number of colors, Peter Pettigrew faces work really well, and then there are plenty of options for quirky or shabby suit jackets. I use a red bow tie neck attachment and Jiminy Cricket's collar for mine, and I think he looks pretty good.

There are a lot of buildings from Gotham and the larger DCU which can be made as modulars in the future, and I like the suggestion that Lego could slip some long desired characters into those like they did with Daredevil and Blade. (But there are a lot of things they could do and don't.) I don't know if it's on the top of any list to be made soon, but the Iceberg Lounge would be a great choice. It's a fun and stylish location which would fit better into a modular city than a mental asylum or a secret mutant school.

Ironically enough, this is how I was introduced to the character. :head_back:

Lego is the reason I know about the character. Lego is the reason I want the character. And now, Lego is the reason I can’t have the character.

Also, speaking of Clayface, it’s kinda weird that he gets a movie this early in the DCU. It’s like Superman! Supergirl! …Clayface…?

It gets a lot weirder if you count the shows. Or if you think about whichever actors Gunn worked with in the DCEU getting to reprise their roles. Or Blue Beetle's actor being stated to be canon but not really having any projects on the horizon?

Having a clear start and focusing on the trinity do not seem to be the goals of this universe.

Maybe they'll put him in a set not related to the movie? unlikely though since we don't get many sets anymore.

Him being in an R-rated movie makes it less likely to see him than if he just wasn't in anything that year.

Yup, this is me too. I never knew the Mad Hatter even existed until I played the Lego Batman games.

He’s actually got an animated series that’s slated to begin production in early 2026.

Same here, shame they just tease us with him being in the game and not releasing him afterwards.

Thinking about it, isn't he the only villain being in a team (Joker) not getting a physical release ? Killer moth didn’t either bit we still got him years later...

...Sounds almost like they were planned for a set, and scrapped afterwards.

Guy did some sketchy stuff around Mary Marvel in JLA: Classified. Even without the infamous thought bubble page.

Power Girl groomed Hal Jordan to be her love interest when he had lost his adult memories and basically had the mind of a child.

Didn't know either of these, looking into it, megablocking hell these are atrocious

The thought bubble page in particular I've put bellow, genuinely abhorrent, might be up there for the worst of these with how it's framed

Oh how quickly they forget, to cut a very long story short LEGO City is a police state controlled by a mayor in a cornsuit, we speculated a lot on the specifics of how it worked and found links to many other themes there

I don't think so, the game entered development, I believe, after LEGO knew the theme was on the way out which led to loads of kids wanting to buy sets that weren't sold, which is why they immediately used a new game to springboard the new Superheroes line

That’s not even the one I was talking about.

Don’t forget about Blacktron’s return and the current state of the DC theme are connected. And why Jedi Bob returned to SW.

Man, I'm surprised the Jedi Bob thing is third on this list, over Turtle, Luigi, the Dummy, Brickheadz Joker and such.

You know we did make a big deal out of the Monsters of the LEGO world being a Ghettoised community, does the new creator set add to this, how do we think the LEGO citizens treat aliens, a recent LEGO City set had an Exo Force mech in it, do we think that museum is owned by the city, in which case Mayor Corncob now has gotten his hands on Exo Force technology, how will that factor into his evil plans? What happened to the pilot, was the LEGO City police state or Blacktron responsible for ending Eco Force by killing all the pilots and taking their vehicles to make new weapons of war?

I guess that's a pretty good demonstration of how this worked for Robert8

What's happening with the DC license for 2026? I keep hearing something about Mattel getting it, but then also that that might just be for action figures and not building playsets, but then also Mattel Brick Shop might be making DC sets, but then also they already own mega construx anyway so it doesn't change anything... What's actually going on? Is LEGO DC ending somehow or are a few people spreading misinformation?

Damn. I forgot about Mattel getting the DC license as of 2026. They also now have their own Brickshop.

Is that why there’s no Lego DC in the January wave next year? Cause Lego’s lost the license. I hope this is just for action figures.

Edit: Just found out that all DC sets, including Arkham, are currently slated to retire by December 31st 2026. Which is a suspiciously short shelf life for Arkham compared to the other Modulars.

Not the first time a set had a seemingly short lifespan, only to be extended later

I wouldn’t read too deeply into that. We can start worrying if there’s no 2HY wave!

He’s the BIG BOSS™️of all the bad guys in Lego lore. Dr Inferno, Brick Daddy, Ogel, etc all answer to him. He runs his operation out of the basement of the nefarious Luigi’s pizzeria. No one dares cross him because he’s not just the Joker, but he’s also a brick headz which means he’s Joker but bigger. Turtle was the only one brave enough to expose him and now he’s disappeared. Truly terrifying stuff.

Yeah, pretty much, I think he goes by the codename Purple Number 13 but that might be something imagined up, he was the best crime boss because his brain was so much bigger I believe. I think Luigi was the stealth puppet master though.

Arkham as the last hurrah is kinda plausible ngl, surely they know that if they give up on the licence they might not get it back though? They'd have to keep it out of the understand that if they don't have it the competitor that does get it would instantly be given a boost and more legitimacy

I mean.... the alsume all started off of the words "why doesn't man call in the justice league? Is he stupid?"

But on a more real notion, it's possible. The little batman stuff we do get doesn't seem to be selling great- the D2Cs might do well but the few standard retail sets we get shelfwarm hard, at least around me, probably because we've gotten to the point where almost all lego makes are overpriced Batmobiles with batman and 1-2 villains.

There was a user here who's personal lego batman headcanon involved Brickheadz Joker being the big villain, if I remember right because being a brickheadz, he had a huge head, and therefore must have been very smart.

Purple-13 was his gang, I believe

Yup. They've been making a number of exceptionally poor decisions, especially with their licensed themes, for years now.  I haven't seem anything credible saying they're losing the license, but I wouldn't put it past them to let it go.

It would be hilarious if the theme ended up dying with the release of a Lego Batman video game.

The nickel joke is so overused it's actively turning me into Brickheadz Jonkler

Hmmm. Mattel explicitly also having the rights for playsets and collectibles starting from next summer doesn’t bode well :sceptic: Maybe that’s the real reason they didn’t release any Superman sets, as Mattel might have reached some sort of exclusive deal with DC.

Clay mentioned on Instagram that he’s heard rumours that DC will be getting sets the first few months of 2026. So I don’t think the theme is ending. Just have to wait a few more months for those leaks to happen
