Wonderful to see you back! Wow a new design. Looking forward to maybe build this in the future! Still have the Greyhound and is running great! Five years already.

Hey there, good to see you back too! I hope I find the time to make instructions, but that will certainly take a while.

I had to make a few changes since the last time I posted. I'm using this metal bearing block now for the gears driving the diffs:

Here's a short impression:

This looks great,

Are you using metal axle as well, or just the liftarm from metal parts?

I have done some reverse engineering and made a similar model. If I ever plan to share it I will ask for your approval as it is very similar.

Will share it here when I get a chance, but so far all great and only need to get the small screws to stop the wheels from falling off.

Thanks!

I'm only using the metal bearing block, no metal axles or joints. The new stronger CV-joints and the new differential bevel gears are quite capable if braced properly.

I'm flattered by your revers engineering efforts, but I intend to offer instructions on Rebrickable after the summer, probably around October, so I'd appreciate if you don't share your reverse engineered model.

Such a wonderful work is really exciting. I wonder if you will release the instruction manual this year?

Make that early next year, but I'm finally making time for this...

Hi Didumos, great news! I think there are many of us eagerly awaiting your new project. But seriously, start by telling us what pieces we need to buy to be ready ;)

Happy New Year!

I chime with this! Being a fan of the Greyhound, I am also looking forward to building the Red Wolf.

I am very much impressed by this still from the video linked earlier.

Thanks! I love such screen shots too!

I will wait with sharing the exact parts list until all is final. What I can do, is share the list of third party parts that are needed.

Apart from that I strongly recommend using these tires. They are from much softer rubber than LEGO tires and for that reason they have much better grip and they absorb a lot beating. That also reduces the chances of having an entire wheel coming off, which never happened to me with these tires. Only when I crashed. These tires are in fact crawler tires and come with soft foam inserts. For my purpose, I replaced the included inserts with bigger ones, to get a little more pressure in the tires. That makes them more suitable for racing.

Great. Thanks Didumos. Could you give us some more details also on this type of tires and rims with possible references?

In the meantime I'll start dismantling the Greyhound Buggy....

Regarding the tires, I've been using them for brushless crawler, and they work great. You can find them much cheaper on a popular Chinese site with foam already in wheels.

Please add to that:

I have the instructions ready, also a video and some outdoor photos (I've updated the original post with them).

Now Rebrickable won't let me submit it as a premium moc, because it uses parts that are not from LEGO. The Buwizzes and Buwizz motors are allowed, but the other parts are not. Their point is that if this model would be build from LEGO-parts only, it would damage those parts. My argument was that the whole point of using the 3rd party parts is to avoid damage to LEGO parts. This model seeks the limits of what you can do with Buwizz parts (which are allowed), without damaging LEGO parts and with minimal use of 3rd party parts. But they don't buy that. I understand their point of view, so now I'm looking into selling the instructions in a different way. I wanted to ask the usual 15 euros for it. One option I'm thinking of is that I make the instructions for the chassis free and put the instructions for the bodywork up for sale on Rebrickable, but I'm not sure yet. Suggestions are welcome.

I really like this idea. Maybe it would lead to people designing their own unique bodies for it too, which could be fun.

Another idea could be to offer the studio file for the chassis with the steps removed and sell the instructions on another site.

Overall, an impressive model, you've done it again!

Joking aside, the Red Wolf is really a masterpiece! Sad to hear that Rebrickable is refusing to list the model in its entirety.

By any chance, do you have a delta list comparing the Red Wolf to the Greyhound?

Hm…

why not „simply“ leave out the 3rd party parts in the instructions?

And tell people where to add/exchange them if they want more performance / better integrity / improved part life on a different site?

Iirc, we are only talking about the metal liftarms, the tires, foam inserts and washers, right?

Or would that lead to too much frustration for those who build the model in a „pure“ fashion, because of high wear and tear?!

edit: kind of a „lower performance version“? I would guess that most people interested in the model might not have the BuWizz hardware anyways and will (try to) power with different motors / power supplies?!

(might be difficult without the motors, because they are integrated deeply into  the structure?!)

…we are talking about close to 500€ cost (before taxes?!) just for the BuWizz stuff after all…

Thank you all for the kind words and the suggestions! I'm not very good with those part lists on Rebrickable, so I don't have a delta list.

I really like the „lower performance version“ idea from @Toshi, especially because it makes the model accessible to more people. Yesterday evening I've managed to replace the section with the 4 Buwizz motors with 3 Powered-up L-motors, 1 for the front and 2 for the rear. With the L-motor for steering I use all the outputs of the Powered-up controller/battery box. It turns out to be a really playable model suitable for indoors driving.

This will of course give some delay with the instructions.

I am happy you like the idea and the alternate „power pack“ looks interesting!

But the necessary delay makes me kind of sad too… :cry_sad:

Was really looking forward to building one of your MOCs again!

Is it possible for you to share the parts list ahead of the instructions, so we can begin sourcing the parts? At least that way we can start building right away, once the instructions are ready!

I'll do my best to finish all this asap. I'd rather not share a preliminary parts list, because I want to be able to make changes. It want te keep the diff between the BuWizz version and the poweredup version as small as possible.

I would upload it without the special parts, and just leave some suspicious lime green liftarms in place of the ones which require a bearing :)

As for the washer, maybe you could put a lime green 15535 "round 2x2 tile with hole" in that spot as a clue. Probably it will collide which will hurt your feelings, but it would still have less collisions left in than most instructions on RB :)

You are not talking about the B-model of the 42129, are you?

Yes, but it's something of an inside joke. There's another one just like it with different bodywork but not published.

I do remember a few posts from a while back about some model without published instructions, I think…
