hikouki Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 I do not quite get the framing of this set. It seems like a confused mish-mash of a frame and a postcard set. Quote

This isn't Architecture at all, and I really feel the line that I've loved for years is goingna direction I can't follow. To me it looks like nothing more than a larger version of the postcards. Nothing about that is Architecture to me. No full building at all. Just facades with a background and stand. I like the new Paris set, but I agree it isn't really what I'd expect in Architecture. It is more Art than Architecture. Quote

It is more Art than Architecture. It’s not even Art. It’s a “souvenir” pastiche of a postcard of Paris. They don’t even shy away from it with the set name. It is exactly what it is, and isn’t really aimed at LEGO fans never mind Architecture aficionados like us here. At 80 euro too, ouch..just like every other tourist trap in that city. Rauy Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 I have to say I'm not a fan of it either. As a set, I do like its design and its abstract and moody colour palette. LEGO sets like that live from a certain amount of stereotype and cliché. But it really has no place in the Architecture series, even more so with that cheesy "City of Love" title. I've never been too critical of the Architecture series' reorientation towards tourist sites and I always liked the "normal" Skylines. But with stuff like that I'm afraid they're going to lose me, too. With Neuschwanstein earlier this year already being somewhat of a disappointment in its design it's certainly not a great year for LEGO Architecture sets. And with LEGO's Paris infatuation, you almost start to wonder what next year's Eiffel Tower set will be. Quote
Fairsy Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 I've got every set up until this year, but feel like it's totally lost it's way - the Neuschwanstein is just another set that is far too big for what it needs to be, and the Paris one isn't architectural at all. Quote

Whoever signed off on that needs to visit an optician. Ummm... the Eiffel Tower is currently painted yellow-brown just like Gustave Eiffel wanted. What Lego color would be better? What Lego color would be better? Not familiar with what he wanted but the original ET colour was actually red (famously Venetian red). Not tan as depicted here. Since you asked, personally I’d have stuck with the greys used in both the skyline and more recent massive 1m+ tall set. Anyway, the set isn’t a throwback to the C19th, it’s a diorama of modern Paris and so a tan colour Eiffel sticks out like a sore thumb. I’m sure there’s an aesthetic reason just like the pink/flesh bricks in the updated Fontana di Trevi, but still, it looks odd. Edited November 25, 2025 by Lucarex Quote
Lyichir Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 (edited) I think tan looks more appropriate for the look of the "lit" tower in this sort of nighttime cityscape, grey would've disappeared against the dark blue night sky backdrop. Sometimes colors are chosen more based on what a subject feels like in particular lighting conditions than the actual material color of a subject in neutral lighting. For me, it is Sacre Couer that is wrong, it would look better in white as that is always lit up. Quote

La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona Released to coincide with the official opening of the main structure and central tower. Plus 2026 is also the centenary of Gaudi’s death, and there’s a series of events around this milestone. Thankfully, NDdeP already paved the way for this type of religious building, known equally for being a global architectural symbol as much as a place of worship. Worth noting that set was also released to coincide with the reopening/restoration in 2024 after the devastating fire. Quote

It's actually called New York City - the Big Apple. Different from the skyline series. Features the Empire State Building, Freedom Tower, Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, the Met, the Guggenheim Museum, and a bunch of generic buildings. The backdrop is a night sky in the shape of an apple. Edited May 28 by hrdknxbrix Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted June 4 Posted June 4 The Sagrada Familia got revealed! Looks stunning! …wait, are those crystal pieces in trans-clear?! My prayers have been answered!! Quote
RyansRebuid Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I know it's not the same thing, but I couldn't help but crack up a bit when I noticed it. I am going to Barcelona this year to see the Sagrada Familia, and the flights + tour costs about as much as this set. Quote
Lyichir Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Absolutely gorgeous. Outside of my budget, of course, but if they're going to do a set this large I'm glad they chose a subject that needs that kind of size to do it justice. Quote

Its worth it only for the views. Quote
RichardGoring Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I'd be curious what the build is like. I was wary of the Empire State Building, which looked like a boring and repetitive build, but I actually found it delightful! This looks great as a model, but the build may be so large and repetitive that it drags. I'm glad they've made it, but I won't be getting it. Money, space, time. All three really count against it. But it does look amazing. Quote
Lion King Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Hmmm this looks beautiful! But I am not planning to buy this as it’s so large. I can’t tell if its size is similar to Himeji Castle’s? Quote
Herky Posted July 19 Author Posted July 19 Been away for a while, life stuff, anyway, 2026 for me has continued to disappoint. Paris and New York (my kids live in Brooklyn so I am there quite a bit) did not need to be made. The only saving grace for NY is there is a subway hidden under the buildings is my understanding. That is a nice touch, but the big apple background...oof. Just a historical note, the reason NYC is called the big apple is due to horse racing slang for a big payout. There are very few, if any apple trees there. I digress. Tower Bridge - less pieces, more expensive, a mini version of what we got in 2010 and you can likely still find that set on ebay at a decent price way less than this new version coming out. Sagrada - this is one I really like, BUT, I don't have the money or space for this thing. Is it just me or has Lego gotten lazy and just rehash a lot? I would love new buildings, there are a plethora we have discussed through the years on this thread alone but others as well. I don't get it. Are they under a mandate to not be creative and original? We did get the Pyramid, I like that set but used the MOC instructions for the full pyramid. If you want to rehash, then update that one into a Chichen Itza maybe? Same structure different part of the world. Buildings - so so so so many to do. They get creative with the modular sets but not architecture, I am just baffled by this. In any case, life is still good, there are sets I like, I also like trains, wish they would do a Big Boy locomotive at least, if they want big sets this would be perfect. Hope everyone is having a great summer in the northern hemisphere and good winter in the southern. Quote
