Hopefully we'll get a blue Space minifig, and the remaining parts for the light gray one, in the Build, Paint, and Play GWP. Which is supposed to happen some time this year. But it ain't Lego IDEAS if they don't make the actual release a huge downgrade, so we'll see.

Am I getting confused? They've done dark/earth blue in Dreamzzz and released on PAB, so dark blue is complete, isn't it?

But in general, I agree, that the torso is probably the driver for more pieces to come to complete it, rather than the other way around.

It's now said to be the Hubble Space Telescope. That's not nearly as fun as another Space throwback set, nor as exciting as an Apollo CSM or Orion set would have been, but I'm sure I'll end up wanting it once I see it. Hopefully it's got a lot of drum-lacquered pieces, because it won't look very good in plain light bluish gray.

Leaked pictures are out for the Tintin rocket! It's an amazingly smooth build and the minifig selection is on point. I wish it also had figures of the main cast in their usual attire, but those will probably be relatively easy to figbash.

Agreed, it looks great, but oh my, if they leave it as a single set, it will be such a shame not to get the classic outfits on the figures!

No update yet on the x-files ideas set? Does this mean it will be released second half of this year, likely fall or winter? Couldn’t find the forum for this topic, even after searching. Thought this was the closest one. Thanks

It's so strange that BDP can never include real Space sets. Why choose a space inspired City build instead of a real Space set? There are almost always Castle sets available and at least three Pirates sets have been chosen. Why this discrimination against Space?

I reckon there's simply not a large enough voter base to make true space set designs pop up at the end of the fan vote stage

I think there is that and the fact that Lego continues to offer space-themed sets.  We did just get the up-scaled blue astronaut.  The sets might not be what people on the forum want, but it's what Lego wants to offer for sale.

In contrast, Lego has ended pirates and castle themes, so it makes sense that sets that fit into those themes would do well in BDP.

Things might have been different if Bricklink had continued as an independent company, but now that it's owned by Lego I think means the BDP needs to fit into Lego's overall marketing strategy.  I mean, BDP is really a scaled down version of Ideas.

That and honestly, you can also see it in the number of submitted designs, which aren´t that many really and from them even fewer are actual spaceships. 

But on the other side pirates and western have a similar amount of submissions but got more sets approved, so might also be that space is maybe not that high in demand right now, especially since it is probably split between people that want space sets from the classic space themes or in their spirit but others want more modern designs and most submissions cater that interest.

I think the BDP program really lends itself to large sets, especially buildings. It's a lot harder to build a large spaceship than a large building, especially one that is swooshable and doesn't all apart. 

Also, large spaceships require large windscreens. And there aren't many of those, especially in the BDP palletes. And if you want colored windscreens, you're extremely limited.

Yeah, I agree with that. There were a few good spaceships and rovers in previous series when the Renegade windscreen and the Technic rover tires were available, but in the last couple of series there's only been the 1x3x3 trans yellow panel and the small trans yellow windscreen from the V-19 starfighter.

I'm still hoping for the Lunar Cargo Train. Especially since there are two perfect space minifig versions available to crew it.

I agree with everyone's assesment
