I mean personally, I'd go with Moria just because the Lord of the Rings movies are vastly better than the Hobbit ones in my opinion; a set on the former makes me so much more excited than on the latter.

As for the quality of the sets, I'd actually say they are on the same level. Minifigures are great in both (albeit slightly more exciting in Moria), and same for the builds.

In the end though, it's your choice—and if you hold more sentimental value to the Goblin King set, and have doubts about the Moria one, then maybe you should get the former.

There are also a lot Black and Grey Parts. The good thing is that all of the brown bricks should be easy to replace - though of course that would be an extra cost. But looking at the list I haven´t seen parts that seem to be rare, as actually at least most of them are even still in production. In the end the really rare parts are the figures.

And when it comes to figures, I would be afraid that Gimly would break in the Moria Set - aside from that that one should be fine too.

So the real question now is if you can live with having to replace some of the parts for an extra cost I guess.

Thank you for your suggestion! Ended up getting Mines of Moria sealed for 285 after all the fees and shipping. A bit over budget but I'll just work some overtime to cover it))) Decided to go with Moria as I truly do love that original lines of sets and they hold a very special place in my heart. Will probably still try to get the Goblin King set in the future))) Thank you!

Oh my, that's an insane price.

Still, happy for you! That's why we need more LotR sets. Hopefully the new Gollum movie or whatever WB has in store will be an incentive to do an Indiana Jones-esque wave of sets, instead of just 300€+ D2Cs.

Good call, I do love the mines of Moria set and the cave troll big fig.

Yep quite insane indeed. I really want more sets ASAP((( I genuinely don't even know what caused me to randomly decide to buy it. Maybe because the Balrog set will most likely cause prices for the mines of moria to explode. Or maybe they release a new version and make me look a fool of a Took, who knows))) 285 is a fair deal though as on bricklink the cheapest sealed one is around 280 but that's before shipping and taxes. I paid 285 total.

Yes, I still remember being a little kid and rewatching the designer videos for LOTR over and over again. Can't belive that was 12+ years ago now. Weathertop was my favorite but I feel that I can just build that set on my own from spare pieces))

In retrospect it astounds me how many heavy hitters that initial 2012 wave consisted of in terms of covering key sequences from the films. Moria, Weathertop, Helms Deep, Shelob etc. Crazy!

Good choice, they‘re amazing sets IMO and I‘m really nostalgic for both of them :sweet: The cave troll and Goblin King are some of my favourite bigfigs as well!

So, what are you going to do with your new Sets? Build and Display?

Golbin King set is a nice build and the figs are great.

Mines of Moria also a really nice set and the figs are great too.  Both have the bigfigs.  The Moria orcs are some of my favorite of the LOTR line.

Speaking of LOTR bigfigs, any suggestions for display options for these?

I have a collection of LOTR, SW, Marvel, etc. minifigs and I like displaying them inside the IKEA Sannahed frames with those inserts you buy from eBay (acrylic backing with inverted bricks glued on to them).

The bigfigs do not fit in the Sannahed frames, and I wish they were just a tad bit deeper, and I could display them with the rest of the Orcs.

Absolutely! Going to display it below my Rivendell shelf! Cannot wait!

Super excited, been wanting these sets since I was a little kid. I actually got into LOTR through Lego, and the Hobbit was one of the first films I saw in a movie theatre with my grandfather. I was scared to bits because of Azog and the orcs. Time flies.

Bag End apparently will have 2017 pieces.

The book nook has 1201 pieces, so we can expect quite a big set—especially compared to the Harry Potter one, which only has 832 of them.

Could be a similiar size, but a lot of small pieces for detailing the rockwork.

If Bag End has 2017 pieces and is anywhere near $350 it needs to have the best minifig line up possible (at least 20).  Hoping with that piece count we are in the $250 range which would be awesome.

I don't think the minifigure count will go anywhere near that high. After seeing Barad-Dur, the X-Mansion and Sail Barge all limited to roughly 10 minifigures I expect Bag End to likely be the same.

Agreed that we wouldn’t get 20, just commenting on the lack of value Lego is producing in sets like these for customers. The rumored $350 for 2017 pieces is bad.  They could regain some value for us with extra minifigures.

Also Hoping for a higher count than Barad Dur.  Considering will likely have 5-6 reused characters (if it’s LOTR based and not the hobbit), and hobbits are fairly generic (torso print and face print). I don’t see why we couldn’t get 12-15 for a set of that size.

The rumored price seems off if there is only 2017 pieces and a couple of figures. Fortnight bus is $100 with 9 unique figs and new molds with 954 pieces, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t come with the full company of dwarves if it’s based on the Hobbit movie.

Come on, that price is obviously wrong.

Rivendell has 6167 pieces at 500€, while Barad-dûr has 5471 pieces at 460€. There's no way Bag End, with 2017 pieces, while go anywhere above 200€.

I am so glad we're finally getting a smaller LotR D2C. Combined with the fact that it's my favourite location from all the movies, it'll be hard not to pick this one up.

Are the piece-counts annouced reliable? They all seem very low. A Simpson set is also annouced at a price point of 250$ but with 1600 pieces … wait and see if that’s confirmed

I hope that this piece count of 2017 pieces is wrong and that we will get a set large enough to properly represent the Shire (not just Bag End like 79003).
