Not really. @JLiu15 may you send me a private message so we can check the details and if I can find some reason for that happening or for me fully understanding to try to reproduce.

Just PMed you

Hey, @Jim, there is almost an entire first page of spam over in train tech. I reported one of them, but i can't report them all - there's just too many, and it also looks like it's (at least) two different users working in tandem. EDIT: Also tagging @JopieK on this, since Train Tech is his domain.

EDIT: Up to three or more users now in Train Tech, spamming away.

Just letting you know!

Now it's also in the general Lego discussion area, @Jim.

Please report some of the posts. Currently enjoying a holiday so I am not online all the time. If you report other Admins and Mods will see it. Thanks

Pushed a few buttons here and there.
Not sure if I am late to the party or not, but there is one less spammer now.
Let me know if there is still more of this rubbish around.

Hello! New member here. I have a Lego storage solution to offer for free if you are in London! (Admins: Please let me know where I should post this if this is not the right place

I have 2 Ikea Alex Drawers units to sort my collection and have recently begun 3D-printing inserts, which means I no longer need all my previous inserts for the 2 units. I would like to give these away to anyone who needs it. It's a great immediate solution for anyone trying to switch their collection to the Alex drawers with absolutely no space wasted at all. The inserts are all very durable and sturdy and took absolutely ages for me to make over many, many months and I can't bear to just throw them away.

Hopefully one of you would like to take these for yourselves or for anyone you know that is getting into the Alex drawers to house their collection. Thanks!

@Jim, hope that yer holiday is going well! :pir-thumb: I seem to have a slight issue with me account. About a day after posting anything, the said post disappears from my activity page. At the moment, it is stuck at September 4th, while I did post yesterday and before that too. It be a curious issue, though not a big one. I would appreciate a fix or some idea as to why does this happen.

All the best,

Jack Sassy

Might be best to ask @aFrInaTi0n this question. I've been having issues with my activity pages too. So it's probably a wider site issue.

My god, there was an invasion of spam bots overnight! There are at least four bots making posts EVERWHERE. I've tried reporting a bunch, but more keep coming!

EDIT:  It's all gone now! Thank you for cleaning up that mess, Mods!

Hey @Murdoch17 - I know you are basically our watchdog for such with reporting those! First of all I want to give you my appreciations for  your constant support!

Unfortuntely it seems some group targeted and had some accounts created. Unfortunately since LargeLanguageModels & AI, all before working meassurements to prevent automatic spammers to get accounts created, can be considered no obstacle to spammers any longer. Unfortunately there is no real technical solution known by anybody. And as spammers can also easily create googlemail.com accounts, they are surfing already on a big provider, so one can not exclude "all mail accounts from googlemail.com" (may apply to all big mail providers, not only Google!).

Thank you! I have not been acquainted with him just yet. :pir-grin:

I have to tell lately I got somehow not the most active person - need to solve another mystery 1st, but please don't hesitate to send me a private message with describing the details, so I may check later. I can already tell some other people reported some strange behavior of the Activity pages.. so maybe there is some issue there!

Aye, of course. I forgot about this issue as it is nothing major.

FYI

We are working on improving our member approval and making it more intelligent. Hopefully we can still automate the approval, but with a slightly more advanced approach. We are taking up the fight with the bots

@aFrInaTi0n any thoughts on this?

I need to stick my head into the whole topic. As we also got some complaints about the activity stream not working out for everybody as expected / like it did before.

Two spam bots are active right now. Spam threads are almost everywhere.... I reported one of each user's threads. EDIT: It's gone now. thanks MOD's!

Hello,

When I joined Eurobricks (2020) there was a forum to make test posts in order to get to grips with the way the forum worked, has this area been discontinued as I cannot find it?

The reason I ask is that back then I tried posting images from my own server space with mixed success (some could see them some not)  and so I have not attempted to post anything (images) since.

As I understand it the forum has undergone some major updates and I reckoned it was time to try again preferably in the test area.

Finally is there a current up to date description/sticky topic etc of how to post remote hosted images? I have struggled to find anything other than random snippets,  out of date info and the links in site guidelines are broken/circular.   I understand the principles  of (and reason for ) hosting images externally but have limited IT knowledge, to get to grips with why I struggled before eg. I see the phrase BBcode mentioned but have no clue what one is!

@Plumber Feel free to testpost in the following topic:

Generally the forum software takes only https:// links (as modern browsers would give warnings otherwise - or if only http:// links are used, they may not get shown in modern browsers at worst - so recommendation is to check if https:// is used.

If I remember correctly only new user can see this sub-forum. I think the threshold was 10 posts. Once you got more posts, the forum will be invisible to you. I too can not see the forum, so it is hard to tell if it still exists

From my experience it is possible to add basically any picture that is hosted somehwere on the internet to a EB forum post. But it has to be the correct link. In most cases it is the link that directly links to the image and ends with the file format of that image, so the link will end in most cases with either of .jpg or .png.

For example, when I host a image that I want to share at EB and I upload it at directupload, a website that hosts images, the link that can be generated automatically does not work, because it does not link to the picture, but to the picture on the website. So in my browser I open the graphic in a new tab and then can copy the correct link to the image, ending with the file format. Then simply paste at the EB post.

(I don't know if the forum will show other formats. I guess gif will be okay as well?!?)

But I agree, there should be a pinned thread/post that explains how to add images to a forum post. That question gets ask a lot. I mean, a lot!

@aFrInaTi0n Thanks for the reply, unfortunately the test topic link has not displayed. Just a box that says I do not have permission to see the topic!

If I understand the next bit correctly, I need to make sure (edit if necessary) that any image links start with https?

@Yperio_Bricks Thanks for your input.

This is my problem, I wouldn't have a clue on how to correct it :cry_sad:  I think I have understood that the system now needs the appropriate file extension (.jpg .png or .gif?) where it didn't before?

So how would I correct this please?

Amen to that !   It would certainly seem the case that many people are confused by both the need to host externally (didn't read the guidelines:blush: and confused by the 'Drag file here...' bit at bottom of reply box) but also the mechanics of linking is also confusing to many judging by the number of posts with image links that lead nowhere (I don't mean the hosts that restrict UK access)

I tried to read everything back in 2020 and much of the explanation available then dated from many years earlier and had already been superseded (toolbars that no longer existed!) and as far as I can see nothing formal has been added since, maybe my IT incompetence is stopping me finding it. My most recent formal IT training was for Toshiba Tosdic 247 distributed control systems back in the late eighties and the hard/software was acknowledged as well developed (read mainstream obsolete) at that time (but largely bug free). The secretaries had terminals on Vax clusters, am I showing my age?

Not complaining because I really appreciate the huge amount of time that @aFrInaTi0n and his colleagues must spend keeping this site running for our benefit, would just like to contribute something more!
