GoldVillage Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I can see this happening. Volvo is a big name and obtaining their licensing just for anything other than a flagship doesn't make sense. I also think the police interceptor and the getaway racer would be small sets in a scale similar to the 42022 hot rod. I dont ;) asuming that the volvo and xerion leaks IS true its still not logical that we will have 2 licensed set for the same year, so most likely one of them will be the 2017 flagship... but since the license deal was already done, the leak was possible. The police car as well as the getaway racer will probably be pullbacks similar to the 42033 & 34 - both in price and parts counts (approx 150 or so) and they can most likely be built together, while the mining loader will be more of a match to the 42022 hot rod in price and number of parts. Ondra Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 The piece count information in the first post could perhaps also be estimated based on this info? I will try but lego is unpredictable, I updated first post with prices thanks . Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Maybe the set with largest number may not be the flagship, as witnessed in the 42009. 42009 is not the largest number in those 2013 Technic sets. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 At this point only the Volvo and the Xerion are appealing to me. I'm not really a huge fan of cars. As for the Volvo, how do you guys think the steering function will be handled? I think it can either, be at the end of the lower base like that in the 42009, or can go through the turntable and end up as a knob above the cabin. I'm curious to see. In case it goes through the turntable: From the real model I guess the front outrigger can move up and down. If this outrigger is motorized or handled with pneumatics, a pump or an axle will have to go through the turn table. I'm also curious to see how TLG designs this and combine it with the steering. Perhaps they can do the 2-axle transmission like that in the 8043 or 8258. Or maybe they can design the outrigger to be moved manually. Quote

I don't think I quite understand what you're trying to say... Are you saying that because the leak included 2 ( and possibly 3 ) licensed sets that in fact none of them will be flagships? And ah, that makes much more sense the police car being similar to the pullback racers. The prices posted above actually confirm this so, hats off to you sir ;) Quote
LegoCube Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I am bored so I tried my Speculation Hat on :) Getaway Racer (Note the number on the side, it is a racer) Something classic US Police Cruiser to match the era: Black, white and orange go well together so maybe some larger 6 or 8 wheeler when combined...? Ok, off with the hat :) Quote

Ngoc Nguyen Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I'd love it if the Volvo Wheel Excavator turns out to be 2017 flagship. It's another chance to introduce pneumatics. Xerion can be 2018 RC flagship. The real thing can even do this! This Volvo truly deserves to be a year's flagship not just a 1H set. Quote

Ahhh, that is true. Personally, if this leak turned out to be NOT true, best case scenario would be EW160 flagship with pneumatics for 2017, while the IP car and the Xerion being run of the mill non licensed sets ( regular car and tractor). I'd love it if the Volvo Wheel Excavator turns out to be 2017 flagship. It's another chance to introduce pneumatics. Xerion can be 2018 RC flagship. The real thing can even do this! This Volvo truly deserves to be a year's flagship not just a 1H set. I agree wholeheartedly. It would be a crime to make a half-a$$ed model out of the EW160. It has so much potential. Quote
MaxSupercars Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) The IP car has been revealed... After Ferrari F40 it will be next Ferrari... Testarossa... Sariel revelead it... :P Max... Edited August 27, 2015 by MaxSupercars Quote

I know this is a speculation topic, but please don't overdo it and go off-topic by introducing NMOCs which have nothing to do with the information at hand. Quote

Ngoc Nguyen Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) Let's imagine this Volvo EW160 has the complexity of a flagship. My take: Manual: HOG steering. Motorized functions: - Outriggers front and back move simultaneously, capable of lifting the vehicle. - Turntable - Lifting the cabin - Pump Pneumatics: 5 cylinders for 4 arm joints, see picture. If this thing turns out to be a mere 1H set, I guess cabin lifting and outrigger deploying will be degraded to manual functions. Or maybe no cabin lifting at all. The excavator arm is the star of this set, so it's unlikely TLG will make any compromise on it. Edited August 27, 2015 by nguyengiangoc Quote
Ondra Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) What if bucket wheel excavator will be at same size as mining truck and mine loader? It will be interesting, and also possible. Edited August 27, 2015 by Ondra Quote
veryhappy Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I would love to see a scissor lift like this one I see it as a very good opportunity to use the V2 pneumatic system Quote
MaxSupercars Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) It would not be bad if they make Volvo EW160B in other than yellow color... for Ex. in white to have more white parts... Although that it seems to have high probability that one of upcoming models could be this Volvo EW160B I don't know if it's enough interesting for a lot of AFOLs... It got many functions but it looks not so nice and interesting as for Ex. 42009 or 42043... Max... Edited August 27, 2015 by MaxSupercars Quote

Cooler than a mobile crane or an Arocs. Let's imagine this Volvo EW160 has the complexity of a flagship. My take: Manual: HOG steering. D3K Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I doubt we'll see a liftable cabin, as far as I understand, that is not a standard feature, but rather something you see as an option if you want your EW160 to be used as a materials handler. I am really having high hopes for this one! Anyone else noticed how all the pictures of the EW160 seem to have black hydraulic cylinders? I know yellow will go well with a model that is black and yellow, still, if they want to stay true to the original (it is after all a licensed set), I really hope they'll introduce black pneumatic cylinders! Quote
aol000xw Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 The LAs in the Volvo Front Loader were not black, so I don't expect black cylinders at all. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) From my observation the number of motorized functions in most case is an even number. Assume that the pump is always a switch function, if the cabin is manual then the outriggers are likely to be manual also. That leaves only 2 motorized functions: turntable & pump. On another note, upon closer examination I saw that the bucket can even rotate around the arm. So maybe a mini-turntable there with another cylinder (similar to the crane in 42043 B model), raising the number of pneumatic functions to 5! And to those who still doubt there is no Volvo next year, you can visit http://shop.lego.com...o-EW160E-42053. The website says "Product Not Available", which means it is a real Lego product.
