I have a very limited ramge of music I like. Some metal, some jazz-fusion, some psychelic progressive whaterer.

Voivod, Soft Machine, King Crimson, Dead Can Dance, early Pink Floyd, casual Metallica/Slayer/Primus. shoegaze, but only Cocteau Twins, some Terje Rypdal. A very few albums from Miles Davis and Frank Zappa.

Wide range but only a very few bands from each gerne.

Random question: how much time a week do you spend on Technic?

I am spending about 10 hours a week building, plus around 2 hours a day online, here, Facebook groups and eBay.

For me it has shifted towards overlooking operations of the forums mostly - but its not hindering me, other private topics hindering me since I think 2 years from really starting bricking again..

Nowadays a few minutes here. Some months ago it was about 5 hours per week. Though it was not Technic but system, realistic space theme MOCing.

It depends on the week for me, and what other hobby projects I have on the go, but maybe 5 hours of building on a week where Technic is the hobby of choice? Plus time in here, of course. It used to be a lot more! Being an adult really cuts down on my time...

Hey dudes (I am trying to be cool),

we are supposed to not talk about LEGO (or not supposed to talk about LEGO, dammit what is correct) in this thread, that are pub rules! So @Jim and other EB Police members may show up here and tear this thing down. Just to let you know. 

And: Technic is still LEGO, or has that completely dissociated (chemist here, I know, nerd, I can live with that). Just to let you know, that is impossible according to Thermodynamics. The 100% dissociation thing. In other words: Technic will always be System . I'll have another pint ...

Totally unrelated:

Today, it seems that a greeting like "Dear All" or "Moin" seems to be a waste of time. That is OK with me.

I am always struggling though with the end of a post dissolving into ... nothing.

So, posts begin with nothing, then there is something, and then there is - nothing.

This is the way it is today, right? I am a late Boomer, and I am regarded as ancient in happenings, like faculty meetings :D

Also, we don't tell people our real names, because it is ... what exactly? A potential security breach? A waste of time? 

I am just curious.

Too much work and other life stuff getting in the way of LEGO building like preparing for road trip. 

(Our AFOL convention is not until November.  Plenty of time to panic build GBCs?)

Anybody feeling a bit "uneasy" about the future of Technic? Will we get to a point where what it is, is so far removed from the place it started, that some of us no longer has the same interest in it?

Yeah, I'd say so! There are very few cars on sale today that I'd actually like to own, and even on those ones, I'm skeptical about the complexity and technology going into everything new.

I'm also both cheap and a big lover of manual transmissions, but there's not a single economy car left in Canada offering a stick. (Maybe still one trim of the Mazda3, but I think it was/is a more expensive one). If I was forced to buy a new car, I don't think there's anything I'd be happy with in the price range I'd be looking in.

Luckily my '95 Geo Tracker shows no signs of quitting, and even when it does there's still used cars I'd like from the pre-2020 era. Just not sure if I'll have any good options in 30 years

100%. My last personal car with a manual transmission was in 2017. Since then I have had work cars, so stuck with whatever they are. One of the team had a manual transmission work car but when he left, nobody wanted it, they were all so lazy / happy with an auto. In the end, I told the boss I would swap mine with this one, as I don't mind a manual and it was actually a nicer model.

What would you say the auto/manual split is in Australia? I'd guess Canada/America would be something like 95%-5%, and I get the impression that Europe might be 75%-25%. I imagine Australia is somewhere in between. Do you think that's accurate?

To give you some idea: currently on Carsales Australia there are just under 200,000 autos for sale and 17,500 manuals.

Ok, so I guess that implies a 92%-8% split? 

That's a good method of looking into stats like that. On Kijiji.ca, I see 141,005 cars for sale in Canada, 3,813 of which are manuals, which would be a 97%-3% split
