Worst Lego action figure?

Recommended Posts

Right off the back I say the Hordika, while one arm was a nice fusion of gear and joints, the other was a stubby limb that just looked poorly done. And their heads, useless as masks and hard to use in set building. Not to mention the hollow chest and the projectile I could never get to work. I would mention the implausible story, but this is about the figures.

Others than the Hordika, not much else comes to mind. Most sets do have design flaws, but they all seem to make up for it, at least to me. I haven't gotten much of the Hero Factory sets though, so I can't accurately judge them. The stars were the only other figures I had a major issue with, but I think that was because they were a cheap ending to my once and future favorite theme.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Standard Nepol from Galidor. Unlike all the other standard figures, he doesn't resemble the character he's supposed to. And unlike the deluxe versions of various figures, the changes to his design don't look even remotely cool-- he ends up resembling some cheap bootleg version of the proper figure you get in Nepol and Shimmel.

Additionally, even among Galidor figs he's a pretty poor value. For the same price you can get any non-deluxe single figure set, despite this one being the smallest of all and the wrong colors. One might argue that piece count matters more than size in determining the value of the building experience, but I don't think anyone could tell me with a straight face that they would invest in Galidor for the building experience. :sceptic: They're action figures with an incredibly minor building component. You buy them for the characters, and Nepol wasn't the most interesting character anyway (I'd immediately jump for Nick, Allegra, Jens, or Gorm, if I were going for a single figure).

I think anyone who gives the name of any BIONICLE or Hero Factory set here isn't looking hard enough at the more obscure parts of LEGO's history.

Aanchir is right - if you want a more varied answer, then maybe it would be best to ask people not to mention the Galidor figures. Otherwise that's likely all you're going to be hearing about. It's a theme infamous amongst AFOLs for being terrible, and anyone picking even some of the worst Bionicle sets over any one from this theme is likely only doing so because they've not heard of Galidor before. I could be wrong, of course, opinions vary after all but I wouldn't be surprised if Galidor took the most flak out of all of the action figure themes. hAving said that, I've heard a lot of people describe Galidor as not being "proper LEGO" so maybe they wouldn't consider it. Either way, I'm excluding it when I consider my reply

I have to say for me it's probably any one of the Bohrok Kal - simply because they're pretty much identical to the original Bohrok, featuring only two new pieces each with the rest just being recolours of previous Bohrok pieces in a a silver colour. But they're still nice sets, I just never liked how they were just essentially recolours of already existing sets. Having said that, the Bohrok style sets themselves were actually rather good. I don't like the Kal because they strike me as being lazy and reused So perhaps not truly deserving as being my choice of worst action figure. But there we go.

The Bionicle Stars were a bit naff. Characters that were once far nicer reduced to oddly proportioned, shoddily articulated pieces of piffle. Sure, they were a nice novelty and in some cases good for nostalgia, but really, as actual sets, I think they were definitely lacking and as previosuly mentioned, a bit of a crap ending for the Bionicle range really. Though that new Tahu mask made up for some of it, I have to say!

Forgot about Galidor, that's what trying for a decade to forget the horribly unlego designs will do to you. Their fusion power was really pathetic, all you could do is trade limbs and stuff. In Bionicle, Slizer, Roboriders, and Hero factory, you could create a completely different form, Galidor was pretty much just humanoids. Only the real skilled could do anything with them. It wasn't really Lego, more like glorified Duplo.

I’m going to have go with Sebulba from 7171: Mos Espa Podrace as worst minifigure, but I'm not sure about worst Action Figure.

I guess I should have been more specific. The two themes I'm talking about is Hero Factory and Bionicle. I forgot to throw in my 2 cents. For Bionickle, I would have to say the Mahri. When the Inika came out I realy started loving Bionicle. However the Mahri were, to me, boring. I just did not like the designs in general, and how they were built felt kind of cheap, using there older counterpart's pieces. For Hero Factory, I would have to say the 1.0 line. I know it's unfair to pick on them, as they were the first of their kind, compared to their newer counterparts they are less articulated and had less parts. Also, the pieces were good for nothing except for the use they already have.

Ah. Well, out of BIONICLE, I'd say the good guy/bad guy promos definitely have a monopoly on badness. Some of them were OK, such as the gold one fans identify as "Turaga Lhikan", who has a design similar to the brilliant 2006 Matoran sets. Even 6935 is a little bit cute. But 6934 is very ugly, with an imbalanced color scheme and an awkward build (6944 maintains the same build but with a bit more reasonable proportions and a better-organized color scheme). 7716 and 7719 aren't too great either.

So for Worst BIONICLE/Hero Factory Action Figure, I definitely have to go with 6934 as the most outstandingly bad set design. I think it would be a very poor introduction to the BIONICLE theme.

Of course, a lot of obscure sets like those Aanchir mentioned would get first place for worst design in my opinion. But in terms of poor design in the main waves of Bionicle/Hero Factory my least favorites are tied between the fire villains of 2011 and the Mistika of 2008, even though both of them had some redeeming factors. I just generally disliked the lankiness of the figures in both of these lines, not to mention the weird heads of the fire villains.

Can I say Mata Onua and not have a book thrown at me?

Thunk!

Wait! Who threw that?

But in all seriousness, a lot of them are good, but Onua from the Toa Mata is just on the borderline of eh and  . The overall body is fine but the mask isn't that good.

Indeed, I threw that encyclopedia at you.

But in all fairness, even though I loved the regular Pakari over the Nuva version, the only turn-off was, indeed, the goggle-look.

As for worst Action Figure, I would have to say Knights Kingdom. Yes, some of the parts were useful, but the heads, hands/feet, and the fact that system bricks were required just didn't really come to me.

D'oh! I completely forgot about KK. Maybe I shut it out of my mind. But those are the worst.

I actually liked Knights' Kingdom action figures and bought several. Although in retrospect I mostly bought them for click hinges in great colors and cool weapons I could use on BIONICLE figures.

I won't count the knights, as to me they were just scaled up Lego figures, in much the same way I count the mini Bionicles of 2005 to 2007 as Bionicles and not Minifigures. But I won't say they were the worst even if I counted them. Like mentioned above, the knights had great weapons for use in Bionicle. So even counting them I still vote Hordika.

I liked the knights *gets another encyclopedia thrown at*

Like Tanma said, they're sorta like really big minifigures. So, like, Macrofigures. :P
