tatra 8x8 with new idea for steering a big truck with no difs

Recommended Posts

hi,

for the people who saw my previous tatra 8x8, it was good and won the belug truckpull in Wilrijk.

i wanted to make it better for the upcoming outdoor challenge. the biggest problem was the steering radius. it was off scale in order to drive good. so i searched for a solution

i have 2 long driveschaft in the undercarriage connected to the axles. the solution i found was a limited subtractor, allowing one driveshaft to go faster than the other. the subtractor is powerd by an m motor.

the space it takes is only 1 stud longer than the old gearbox. i did stretched the midsection by more than 1 stud to make the truck look more real.

it is stil a prototype! i made it tody, and started yeserday... and i sleep :p

the clicking you hear is actually the front tyre grinding the 2'd tyre. i have to fix it, but its just reënfrocing

enjoy :) hope u like the concept

Well... where is the video? The only thing I can see is how to put a video to the post :)

Any pictures of mechanics? I would just use 2 motors in this case, one for each side of wheels.

no pictures yet... wel, i know but this is more challenging, it would be to easy your way

and i don't have the new speed remote :)

You dont really need the speed remote, the difference in motor speed isnt that big.

mm i think i dont follow you, you see, i have 2 xl's in the back. they are connected by gears to give them the same speed. then comes the subtractor, powered by an medium engine. then i gear down the speed, notice i have 2 output axles wich are not connected anymore to eachother. they can change speed because of the subtractor. then they each power 1 long axle. the left axle controls the left tyres, the right..the right. this means that whenever i don't use the subtractor, these 2 axles are connected, there is a difflock, right before the subtractor. if i use the subtractor, the speed on the left and right are different, so no difflock and better steering.

if u are not familiar with my previous tatra, who also had the 2 long driveschafts on the bottom, here is the link: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=451447

Just put on XL motor on left shaft and the other on right one. I used this system in many trucks and it works well.

ah, now i get it :)

but it would be more skidsteer. i wanted something that could act as if there were diffs in it. that way it behaves totally natural.
