Hinckley Posted February 16, 2009 Here are some more characters from The Book of the Ancients: I'm not sure if these will be background people or if I will use them for the actual characters. Right now I'm just experimenting with colors and styles. I may design custom faces for all of the characters too, not sure yet. That would be a ton of work... Sandy said my other female characters were too feminine, but they were disappointed to hear that. Even though they are all donned in corsets and dresses, they are truly badasses. I need to work with the colors on this one. I want there to be a garment under the corset, but the corset is too dark to let the details of that show. I'm not sure if it's the face I chose or not, but the proportions seem off. I really like how this turned out. The vest is actually dark tan, although it looks a little rosy here. I finally found the setting on my camera to get a good color balance in the light I use, but this color didn't photograph well. Nevertheless, this is one of my favorite torsos so far... Constructive feedback is much appreciated. Enjoy! Thanks!
Jasbrick Posted February 17, 2009 (edited) Hi, I think these are all excellent figures... and a lack of femininity is definitely not an issue as it is important to differentiate between the male and female (particularly in a Steampunk setting). Sandy has a considerable amount of character and in my view could be worthy of a more substantial part than as a background character. My only feedback is that they are lacking Steampunk'ishness and it may help to see them in connection with a setting or MOC that adds this element. Hinckley Posted February 17, 2009 Sandy has a considerable amount of character and in my view could be worthy of a more substantial part than as a background character. Sandy is a person and an EB member. She commented on my first set that the women seemed to feminine. She's not a character in my story. Thanks for the feedback and I hope to get some settings to put them in soon. I will be revisiting all of the designs though as well.

But I would love to be a character in your story, Hincks. ;D Anyway, there was nothing wrong with your female characters to begin with, I just said they needed a more tomboy-ish companion to balance things out. And now you made some. Me likes!

Sorry Sandy! Oh well at least you have been immortalised in plastic. Can't wait to see the settings. Jasbrick
Shadows Posted February 18, 2009 Ok, you asked for honest input. My favourites. I like to think of them as the Steampunk versions of Alexander Graham Bell and his mistress. I wouldn't change a thing with either unless you did something I've never really seen before... side decals. That vest would look amazing with side and back decals, though I know it's bound to be a lot of effort and alignment hell. Whatever the case, they're both very good as is. The other two. White torso doesn't work for me. The curves and lines just feel mostly misplaced. I can't really explain it any other way. I also hate her Dickie hair, but I assume that's a transitory detail, subject to change. Please. The other one gives the impression that it's trying to be sheer from the midpoint to just under the straps, which is a lovely idea but not entirely realistic. I doubt that was the intent, but it's how it looks. Part of the problem is that it is very splotchy, like you tried to apply too much shading and the printer wasn't capable of handling it. That about covers it. Your final score:   That isn't bad at all, considering how much new stuff you're trying out.
