  1. Location: C10 Marden Tags: Vehicle, Land Vehicle Last time, in Ender's story: A Space Saga Begins Is it Mine Mine? Okami Bike Kawashita Hummer After his less than fruitful time in the Fascini asteroids, Ender decided to pursue some sightings of odd aliens on Marden. He would have asked Hiro to accompany him, but Hiro had seemed pretty reluctant to pursue the aliens without some tougher tech. After running into another one of the alien's robots, Ender was inclined to agree. Maybe he should have stayed in the asteroids. OoC: Credit for the robot design again goes to flickr user markwisski. Also, no one is driving the robot so if it doesn't count for vehicle I understand.
  2. Some time ago... Koro had waited until the Skip-Speeder stopped and Jackson got out to take a wee. The poor fool had never even known anyone else was there. He didn't watch as Jackson bled out. He was too busy getting an earful from Raven over how he chose to deal with the treacherous bugger. "We needed him alive. Haven't you ever heard the word 'interrogate'?" "Do you spell that with an 'I'?" "I'm serious. There's tying up loose ends, and then there's this. There's "eliminating traitors with extreme prejudice" and then there's whatever it is you think you're doing." "I'm eliminating traitors with extreme prejudice." "Dammit, Koro. I know you don't answer to me but you seriously need to think before you stab. Next time, call me first... not after." "Yeah we'll see-- oh, she disconnected." Weeks later... Secret Mountain Hideout Marden - 3185 Tags: Special Operations Koro liked to come home every now and then. Because he kept all his stuff in a mobile bunker, he could plant "home" wherever he needed it to be. These days, that meant Marden but he had a funny feeling it was about to change yet again. All he'd wanted to do was log in to World of Roawia for twenty minutes to run some dailies with his Level 75 Lenfaldian Knight. But it wasn't meant to be. There was a call coming in. "Hello Koro. Long time. You miss me?" "Yeah. I miss all my old friends." "Then you're going to be happy I called. You remember the Dust Demons?" "Yeah. They've been quiet for weeks now. Something new happen?" "The Commodore went into hiding after what happened last time we took a run at them. Now he's back." "Please tell me we're going to finally close the book on these quasars." "Quasars? You been hanging around Bonnie again?" "Uhhh. No comment." "Whatever. Anyway, yeah, we have a go order on the base. We're going to take it and hopefully the Commodore along with it. Then it's over with the Demons. I know I'll sleep easier... but Koro? We're going to do this one right, you understand me? That means it's my Op and my rules." "Your Op. I get it. Can we get to work now?" "Absolutely. Get to Goshi Junction. My team and I will hook up with you there." "Understood." BUILDER'S NOTE: The first build is just a flashback to reconnect Koro to where things with the Dust Demons left off. My actual build for the week is Koro's "apartment" on Marden. I didn't claim Spying this week because even I can't make the logic of that work. This is a "connective tissue" build and story.
  3. Jycho Tyrus had been given a bit of relief from the usual day to day work he was used to. He'd been told by HQ that one of the chief starship techies in Strato Base on the icy world of Marden wanted to speak to him. While Tyrus thought it slightly excessive that he should need to speak to the man in person, he was happy to get away from daily life for a bit. 'Consider it a week off' HQ had said. However just as he was about to board a shuttle bound for Marden, Tyrus was greeted by a short fat man, who shuffled in front of him to block his entry to the shuttle, and pointed in the direction of one of the G17-Miner ships, abruptly saying: "That one's for you. Off to Marden."."So that was really why they wanted me to go to Marden." Tyrus thought. Andromeda's Gates: Marden by Lord Tyrus, on Flickr After a 13 hour flight in the lumbering craft, Tyrus set the ship down on the snowy surface, as indicated by the mech on guard, and set the drill to proceed to drill into the ground, as Strato Base had ordered. After another few hours of watching over the drill, he climbed out and proceeded to the lift to travel to floor -14. Andromeda's Gates: Marden by Lord Tyrus, on Flickr He greeted the man working at a PC: "You wanted to see me." Andromeda's Gates: Marden by Lord Tyrus, on Flickr The guy turned from his computer. "No! Who are you? I haven't asked to see anyone!" It was as Tyrus had thought. "I'm Jycho Tyrus. It seems there has been an error. I'll be off now." "Wait. Jycho Tyrus? I've heard of you, apparently, you're one of the better pilots, one of the few who hasn't been hit by an asteroid or eaten by a giant space slug!" So that was why there were so few pilots... Andromeda's Gates: Marden by Lord Tyrus, on Flickr The techie continued: "I have a job for you." He hit a button on his keyboard, and a giant holo-display appeared. "Our base is the orange. You see those yellow dots, they are great sources of biomass. We need biomass, and you are the perfect candidate to get them. However, it isn't that simple. See those red areas, those are great magnetic rocks under the snow that'll send your ship crashing straight into the ground, and that'll hurt. Watch out for them. Speaking of ships, I haven't shown you what you'll be driving..." Before Tyrus could protest, the technician walked straight past him and activated another holo-display, this time, a 3D model of a spaceship. Andromeda's Gates: Marden by Lord Tyrus, on Flickr "What do you think of her? She's codenamed Silent Killer. You can see why. She's my latest project." But before Tyrus could answer, he was being whisked away towards the door. "Off you go, see you later!" Andromeda's Gates: Marden by Lord Tyrus, on Flickr Suddenly the ground shook, and both men were thrown to the floor. "It's just the underground mining operations." The technician said, but he looked doubtful. Tyrus also doubted this. Then the lights flickered, then darkness. A large roar filled Tyrus' ears, then he felt himself drifting into unconsciousness... * * * And here's a picture of the whole build: Andromeda's Gates: Marden by Lord Tyrus, on Flickr
  4. Location: C10 - Marden Tags: Vehicle, Spaceship, Land Vehicle Finally, more work! We were picked up by the Oruvus and transported to the frozen world of Marden.... Our mission: search for evidence of Biomass near a formation called "The Icy Mountain..." Any samples we can collect are to be loaded onto a MANTIS PE-56 "Portable Elevator" that has landed nearby. Our new crewman (crewplant?) "Verdi" and I were to meet a "Captain Leeroy Jenkins" not far from our landing site... An RS-5 and a FC-2g Speeder were perfect for the environment...though Verdi's FC-2g had a slight engine problem... I couldn't wait to use my new "Icebreaker 4000" chainsaw... But, before I could get cutting, Captain Jenkins Yelled, "You don't need that...Looky here what I have!" It was a MANTIS Auto Blocker.....a device that can cut, extract and transport perfect blocks of pretty much any substance... Verdi and the Portable Elevator's crewman got busy loading up the PE return module. Captain Jenkins secured the cargo door and initiated the launch sequence... We headed back to our speeders as Capt. Jenkins secured the lander platform.... That's when I heard it...a voice yelling, "LEEROY JENKINS!!" It was an Octan Corp. Sniper! Before I could turn around, Jenkins was in his sights... I was too late....and in the confusion, the Sniper got away.... Then Verdi pointed out (in his [her?] vegtabley voice), "Hey, at least you got a new space suit.." He (She?) was right.....It was a good day after all! ============================================================================================ Extra Images.....I dunno how to do that "Spoiler" thing yet....so here they are... Extra shots of Ved's RS-5 Speeder: Verdi's speeder developed a bit of a misfire...: The Oruvus over the Icy Mountain: The Ice Cave: And...of course...Leeroy's Tool, the Auto-Blocker:
  5. Location: C10 Tags: Science And so it seems that only the purple beans are any use for laser enhancement – the red and green ones Starstriker's been bringing in all week are nowhere near as good. Unfortunately, we’ve only found two plants on the entire planet that produce the purple ones… …and someone destroyed one of them, so this is the only one we have. I see it still hasn’t grown any more beans. No sir. It may be an annual crop. That’s not good enough! Inject some awesomnium serum to speed things up. I’ll be back tomorrow. The next day: What…? Yeah, when we woke up this morning all these new bushes had grown. No sign of beans though sir. Well, it’s a start I guess. I’ll come back tomorrow. The next day: How…? The serum’s definitely accelerated the growth of more plant, but… No beans? No sir, sorry. There better be some tomorrow, or you will be sorry. The next day: What the…?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! --- Thanks for reading! Pics of the lab exterior below because I forgot to work it into the story C&C welcome!
  6. Location: C10 Marden Tags: Land Vehicle, Exploration, Building Finally I get a mission where I can get some alone time. The council sent me to Marden to scout for resources and rival corporations activity. I landed on the surface and uncrated the new M.A.N.T.I.S. Snow Speeder. Time to take it for a spin...the conditions are perfect. It didn't take long to find some Kawashita activity, it appears to be a communication station of some sort. Time to investigate and report back. The Snow Speeder - D
  7. Location: C10 Tags: Science, Vehicle, Land Vehicle Stop here Schmidt! Those are the plants we're after, I'm sure of it! Yes sir! Don't mind the birds. Shoo! These are the ones! I'll start adding them to the laser, you go pick some more. Just one more pair Schmidt! Excellent. Yes sir! But, uh, what is it? What?? I explained this to you on the way! This is the next generation of laser technology: Legume-Amplified Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Or, as I like to call it, the Laser Bean! Get it? Uh, yes sir? *Sigh* Come help me set up the target so we can test it. Here we go, this pineapple I brought will be the perfect target. Uh, it looks familiar somehow sir... did you sculpt the leaves or something? Nonsense! I don't know what you're talking about... Now, Schmidt, prepare to witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational... HEY! GET AWAY FROM THERE! SHOO! Damn things have eaten half the beans! Still, let's go ahead and see if it works. Ready Schmidt? Yes sir! FIRE! HAHA! DIE LONG! What was that sir? Uh, I said, 'that didn't take long'. But we need more beans to make this a viable weapon. Let's pick some more and take it to full... HEY! Don't worry sir, I'll get them! No, Schimdt, wait! FOR SCIENCE! YOU IDIOT! Oh no! Damn it Schmidt! You're walking home! Thanks for reading! C&C welcome!
  8. Location: C10 - Marden Tags: Civil, Building ~~~~~~~~~~~ OoC: Not really sure this really counts for the Civil tag. If not, I'll happily remove it. This build continues after my Challenge 2, Cat C build and occurs before my last weekly build (which was more than a month ago! Blimey, that time's flown by!) ~~~~~~~~~~~ Following the malfunction with the GATE on AC's ship when leaving Guinevere, AC returned to his office, while his engine expert, Dave, made repairs and checked through the engine's data logs to find the cause of the malfunction. Having finished his checks and repairs, Dave headed up to let AC know what he had found. [Dave] You might want to see this. It's some data recorded on one of the monitoring cameras for the GATE. [AC] Couldn't we have pulled it up on the computer digitally instead of coming all the up here with a data card? [Dave] I wanted to make sure we had a seperate copy that can't be monitored virtually, just in case. [AC] Okay, bring it over here and we'll take a look. [Dave] Remember that spanner we found by the engine? It seems that's what caused the problem. [Dave] It shorted out two of the power couplings. Fortunately, the automatic safety systems prevented any major problems and kept things working. [AC] It sent us off course though. We jumped the right number of Gates, but went in the wrong direction. We were due on Terrial Minor, instead we're orbiting Marden. So why did the spanner hit the power couplings in the first place? There wasn't a problem with the artificial gravity on board at the time was there? [Dave] Not that I've been able to find out. I think that someone threw the spanner between the safety bars and got out of the engine room before we got down there. [AC] Intentional damage then? [Dave] Looks like it to me, but I don't know who. There aren't any cameras down there covering the right angle to see. ~~~~~~~~~~~ OoC: I felt that an office would have been painted nice calming colours rather than sticking with the dark Kawashita colours, especially if the spaceship it was on wasn't neccessarily new when it entered the Kawashita fleet. I did try to keep it spacey with an attempt at spacey sliding doors of sorts and the inclusion of the holo screen behind AC. I was also going to build a section of corridor to go outside the sliding door that Dave's standing in front of, but didn't have time for this week. An overall pic is in the spoiler tag below. Please note the image from the engine's monitoring camera is part of my Challenge 2 build with 3 parts added and should not be included in the judging. Comments welcome (although I apologise for not commenting on other peoples builds very often if at all... Some great stuff is happening in AG and I've only just caught up with it all since a couple of months ago...).
