Big sub pics
Commander Wolf replied to Clone comander Nodra 999's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Is that the 7774 Crab Crusher? If that's the case, it's already available on S@H, just as the rest of the initial Aqua Raiders sets. -
Foolish LEGO Human Errors You've Made.
Commander Wolf replied to ReZourceman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've actually almost had to get stitches after cutting myself trying to open a 1990's Lego box... with scissors. Don't ask how THAT happened... -
Make or host our banners? You say "make", but the context of your post suggests "host". I make my banners in a standard gfx editor; I host them on maj.com.

Hmm... been a while since 4. I look forward to reading 5 once the download finishes.

Kind of reminds me of those Xpod and Creator game sets they made a while ago. What exactly is the benefit of teaming up with Ravensburg to make... this one set?
-
Wow. Where'd you get that figure? I was always on the "Pokemon has been dead foy many many years" bandwagon, so I'd be reasonably surprised if the figure was true. Also, if Diamond and Pearl sold 2 million copies in the first weej, how many copies did like Red and Blue sell in the first week?

Well, here's a MOC that's going to be torn down very soon, so I figure I might as well post it before it falls into complete obscurity. The MOC Pages page pretty much explains everything - this is a steampunk MOC more than a space MOC, but MOC Pages doesn't have a category for steampunk. Click on the picture for the BS gallery, and all comments, questions, flames, etc. are appreciated. MOC Pages

$90 US is a reasonably good deal considering that the set has almost a thousand pieces. Personally I'm glad that they offer this set without the track/motor/regulator as to keep the cost down for those of us who have existing track/motor/regulator.

If you use 1x3's and insert 1x1 rounds between them, it will bend even further. Personally I think the rounds also add texture to a wall.

I do have periods of time where I'm too busy to build any MOC's. However, not having the funds to buy up new sets, I tend to just not build anything at all during those periods of inactivity. When I do buy bricks for MOCs, it's usually in the form of second hand and bulk, seeing as it's several times cheaper than buying first hand and as a set. When I buy SETS, the sets always stay as a set. They sit on a shelf for a while until I run out of shelf space and a newer set comes up and replaces it. At that point the older set goes back into the box (A rarer and rarer occasion these days) or a plastic bags.

Well said! I saw this on Lugnet - brilliant idea if I do say so myself. We could certainly do with more trains like this.

Lol, that ship is certainly not full of win.

LEGO set surveys ain't for nothing
Commander Wolf replied to ScottManDeath's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't have any recent manuals so I'm curious: does the survey actually say you can win something? Or was the Ferrari just a fluke? -
Play with Lego or Build with Lego
Commander Wolf replied to SirScottLego's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've always considered building with Lego and playing with Lego two distinctly different things: When you're in the process of assembling a model, or anywhere in the building process for that matter, you're building with Lego. When you start swooshing a model or running a train then you start playing with Lego. -
Huh, I vaguely remember filling out a similar (The same?) poll a while ago. I can't quite remember what I wrote in, though. I'm very surprised that Lego christmas ornaments are scoring in the 700's, whereas the next highest scoring item, the packaged minifigs, are only scoring in the 90's. How is this scale being worked out? I can't believe that old school, old of production sets scored so low as well.
-
Wow. The plane and the car really caught my eye. I'm interested in the plethora of 1x1 slope bricks that come with the car, and the set doesn't look like it's going to be terribly big or expensive either. And yeah, the house looks pretty much like the old one.

How do you pronounce my username? Phonetically, I'd hope...

1) I'm impressed that TLC is using those rolling garage doors on the fire station. I haven't seen those since the mid 90's. 2) There's a little diagram next to the hovercraft showing arrows pointing all over the place. What is that diagram trying to tell us?

I'll have to agree with 4554. And I too wish I had bought it when it was still available. I think they should have re-printed it along with the Metroliner and Club Car.

10. Super Smash Brothers (N64) The original version. I remember spending hours on this game when I was in 5th or 6th grade. Next to Pokemon it was the "in" thing. Like people didn't watch movies at parties, they played SSB instead. 9. Starcraft (PC) I don't even know if Blizzard is around anymore. I think someone bought them out. But nonetheless, Starcraft was my obsession in junior high, almost 5 years after it first hit the market. That people are still playing it en masse even now is a tribute to how good it was. 8. Midtown Madness (PC) This game was made by Microsoft in 97 or 98. It was a racing game, but it was also a "free driving" game, where you were given a map (Chicago) and allowed to roam the streets and create havoc. It was made all the better by 3rd party cars. There was an MM2 made in 2001 or 02. 7. Tetris Yeah. Tetris. It was this or Microsoft Solitaire. I have a GBC version of Tetris that I still play when I go on trips. I mean... who doesn't like Tetris? It's... Tetris. 6. Pokemon, Second Generation (GBC) I think Gold and Silver represent the "Golden Age" of Pokemon. They fixed all the numerous bugs (Missing No, duplication, etc) and added a whopping 100 new Pokemon to the pool. Pokemon was still "cool". I remember beating the Japanese version months before the english release with a two page guide from Gamefaqs. 5. Tales of Symphonia (GC) It's all about the Beach Boy costume. 4. Roller Coaster Tycoon (PC) I actually want to pick up this game again. You build theme parks. I played this game obsessively for years, beating every map in the original version and the two booster packs. Eventually 3rd party support was also allowed people to play the game in a "Sandbox" fashion. 3. Disgaea (PS2) It's possible to do two billion points of damage in Disgaea 2. That should say everything. 2. Final Fantasy VII (PS) This game doesn't even need an explanation. 1. Transport Tycoon Deluxe (PC) Wtf, you say? This is a simulation game released in 1993, for DOS. It is the forerunner to Roller Coaster Tycoon. In TTD, you transport goods and make money. I don't know what makes it so good, but it is. Best thing is that it is basically freeware these days, as the company producing it stopped production years back.

Do they need to be console? Can we include PC games as well?
-
Yeah, sometimes I feel like I've got the shaft, having not been born until 1989. I never got the chance to pick up any REAL classic Lego, my earliest childhood set is from 1993, and the bulk of my collection is from the middle of the 90's, when Lego was already tending towards what it has become today.
-
Hmm... it's betwee the Model Team truck and M-tron Magnetiser for me... I think I'll go with the Magnetiser. I don't think the biggest, or best set out there, but I have a penchant for the classic Lego space factions (If you can call them factions). And I completely agree with this statement:
-
Oh... huh. Good call! In that case you might want to try and fine a way to mirror the part of the image above the horizon onto the part below it and see if you could draw out some more exacting shadows.
-
Well, I use PSP and Open Canvas for my art, but... In general, it looks to me like you're trying to go for a high contrast piece with the darkened sky and sea. The horizon line in your second picture looks "fake" because though it's an edited piece, it is deviating from "real" physics. I think you should darken the area not closer to the horizon, but further from it, that is, the area in the foreground, as light dissipates exponentially from the source. That's just my two cents, I don't do photo manip, so I wouldn't have a clue as to what I'm talking about X-D
