  1. I guess he means this one: I haven't actually built it myself but if it's too slow you could replace the motor powering the opening/closing function with a PF M-motor.
  2. Doesn't have to be. Just a one part housing like this piece:
  3. You could say that. It's not JUST the return of pneumatics in a flagship set, it's a number of other things as well. It's the first to combine pneumatics (with motorised compressor) with the complexities of a gearbox. It's got new large wheels and a new "gearbox for higher ground clearance". I'm really excited about that new part. I hope it also provides a low friction, heavy duty way of gearing down at the wheel (for more power at the wheel without breaking bevel gears in the diff) and steering driven axles. Of course we can build somthing similar, I already have many times for big motorised trucks. But they are never really perfect. This is gonna be sweeeeeet!
  4. Whilst I like the working pricipal of the silver champion, I felt it's design was a bit weak. Mine never broke but if I were you i'de design a new stronger version of the same pricipal. All wheel drive (AWD) means (I think) permenant 4 wheel drive. This means you should link the front a rear drive shafts with a third, centre diff, like the 8880 or 8466. This means that all four wheels will be powered but allowed to turn a different speeds as required in a corner and if three of the four wheels are prevented from turning, all the power will be sent to the forth wheel.
  5. Sorry, I forgot the question mark. I was asking the question would it not be feasable to you to have a setup similar to the silver champion? This would mean that the shocks are NOT mounted within the wishbones. Instead they wound be mounted horizontally, and lengthways inside the car, above the differencials, like this: http://bricks.argz.com/ins/8458-1/22
  6. Would this be too wide? http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/x403
  7. Yes they are the same size. The only difference is that the 8466 wheels/tyres dont have the technic power writing on them.
  8. I think that would be a 4l axle, two of which are found in the control centre 1 set. There are also a couple of sets with a 10l threaded axle. BTW would it not be feasable to mount the shocks horizontally, like the silver champion. This way you would have more shocks available to you, like the 48912c01 which has built in spring, shock aborber and adjustment for spring length and stiffness.
  9. That's a great review, thanks! I also have this set and have seen the video but can't remember what's on it and I can't re-watch as I too no longer have a tape player. I really don't think there is anything you can't already find on youtube about power pullers tho. It's a shame that this set was your introduction to the flex system as it's usually a great system. It's application here however was dreadful, by far the worst of any set if memory serves me correctly. If you are interested in getting more sets with the flex system then you might like the (hang on, hope I remember these numbers right, can't be arsed to check! ) 8479 Barcode truck, the 8485 control centre 2 (the t-rex model) or the 8856 whirlwind rescue. Fantastic!
  10. Yes, there seems to be two different meanings to the word supercar which I guess both is correct. The first is a technic set of a supercar, the second is a super technic set of any kind of car. I would love a super technic set of a super car, a supersupercar

    IQ test

    Thanks for the replys guys.
  12. According to Blakbirds technicopedia, this is the list of all supercars/auto chassis: http://www.ericalbrecht.com/technic/cars.html you can also add the 8070. Technicopedia is invaluble if you want to find out more about any particular set (so far with increadible detail up until 1995). Have a good look round. Now you might have gathered that I think only one or maybe two sets qualify as being called supercars as such, but that's just me. As far as I know there is no clear definition of what constitutes a technic supercar. For me a technic supercar is a technic set of a supercar. However the term has also been used to describe all flagship cars regaurdless of whether or not they are high end sports cars or otherwise including SUVs, muscle cars and F1 racers.

    IQ test

Hiya folks, so I took this IQ test. http://www.free-iqtest.net/ I have no idea how accurate it is, or in other words how happy I should be that I got an IQ of 152 which technically makes me a genius . That can't be right Have a go, tell me what you think! Show off your results here.
  14. Well, if you're not that gifted at making MOCs there's not a whole lot else you can make with that set, but still you have a point!
  15. Their written stance seems all well and good to me and I agree with it. All** the violence they have depicted in their sets has been of violence that children will never likely see for real in any form, and so to the child remains purely fictional/pretend. Whilst it's good to encourage children to explore their aggresive side in a fictional context, they must also know that real violence is not play time. I know western sets are what they are but I think most children see them a being more fiction than fact anyway. Besides I doubt the real "wild west" was anything like as exciting as what we think it to be. Just the same as today, just quieter and dirtier, making Legos depiction of it, just like Clint Eastwood depiction of it, completely fictional. So basically they can do whatever they want with whatever weapons, just as long as the child associates the violence within as purely pretend. They just don't want to have any images that might scare children with such harsh realities as war. **I do however have one small hovering thought with some of the racer sets. Sure all the spikes and weapons are fictional, but it just seems to push the idea NOT of healthy competion but of win at all costs, and that serious violence is justified if it means you win a race, which is just not right.
  16. Yes, Sunlight is damaging to any colour lego, fading/yellowing is also very noticeable in blue and grey colours. It may also be worth adding that some white parts, no matter how in the dark they are, still yellow. I believe it was something to do with the fire retardant reacting with oxygen in the air, but I could be wrong and there is a proper topic dedicated to this already so.....
  17. I must argue that 8880 (no panels or hoses, just clever design) is probably one of the best looking technic sets ever and the car that looks most like a supercar. To me a supercar is exactly that, a supercar. It's not a musclecar or concept car or saloon car of offroader, it's a supercar (or hypercar I suppose). I don't consider the 8865, 8458, 8466, or 8297 to be supercars. 8448 to me is only a supercar when it has it's gull wing doors and even then it looks like it's from the 80's. 8880 is the only modern supercar TLG ever released. Sure 8865, 8466 and 8448 are super, and they are cars, but they are not supercars by definition IMHO.
  18. You always come with some great ways to think outside the box, love it.
  19. I wonder if it's possible to fit another trye inside of them, like these ones: http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32078 I haven't tried it so I don't know what trye, if any would fit. It's worth a try tho.
  20. Those are some great modifications, I especially like the gear change linkage. All it really needs is a gate to help select gears properly.
  21. I'de be looking for the same speed as the barcode truck. The Mog will most likely be heavier but the M-motor is a bit more powerful. If that fails I could always upgrade to the XL motor. That will be more than enough. With any luck the new gearboxs will offer additional down gearing as well as more ground clearence to take some of the strain off the gears in the diff, especially with those large wheels. But hey, I don't have the thing yet so I don't know how easy it's gonna be. I just can't wait to get it because it's still freaking great as is!
