I've already posted on flickr, but I just saw you have a topic here as well. Excellent work yet again, and your builds looks stunning all together. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

I'm a huge fan of these. The simplicity of the detailing works extremely well and creates a very realistic look. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

Love it! I'm a sucker for anything of this era, and you certainly nailed the look of the interior. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

My version of Sonicstarlights Medevil Market Pub
sonicstarlight replied to The Dutch Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Wow! I am so flattered right now! You've certainly done your homework on this. The detailing is spot on, and I have to admit that you did a better job laying out the pub than I did. The jukebox and foosball table turned out great too, as did the trident topper for the tower. The butcher is really looking the part, too. Again, this is a huge compliment (and ego boost) for me. Let me know if there is anything I can help with. -
Well done to all the winners, as well as all those who entered. This was an amazing contest with so many worthy entries.

I really like this one. Modernist architecture is far harder to pull off well than traditional architecture in my mind, and this is as good as I've seen. The way the building is set back from the street and the lower height actually adds some authenticity - it's like if Mies van der Rohe's Seagram Building met Crown Hall (if that means anything). Best of luck, and blogged on Brick Town Talk!

The entries to this contest are incredible - I honestly can't keep up. This one really caught my eye - the windows are wonderful and the interiors are also very well done. I like that you also included an ambulance - very much in keeping with the official line like the Fire Brigade. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

Modular Madness: Terrace Apartments / Barbershop
sonicstarlight replied to Myko's topic in LEGO Town
This is easily one of the best entries thus far. There isn't one particular thing that stands out, but rather the entire composition is just incredibly pleasing. Blogged on Brick Town Talk! -
I've always been a fan of your work, and this entry does not disappoint! You have such a unique style that even though this isn't a Deco building like most of your modulars, it still has a certain feel that is hard to pinpoint that is definitely yours. The interiors are brilliant - I really love the second floor with the seating area for the four journalists. Very retro, but in a good way. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

I did a one-story diner that I think more or less works with the official modular line. Like others have said, actual cities are virtually never as universal in building heights as the LEGO sets are, and even though the Pet Shop is a little short and the Town Hall a little tall, I still think they could use more variety. I think one of the things you need to take into account is what kind of building you are making. Office buildings and apartment buildings tend to be tall, so making a one-story version of either of those might not look right. Things like post offices, restaurants, gas stations, etc, could work very well as shorter buildings.

Wow! Those windows are incredibly clever and work really well with the rest of the facade. That canopy is stunning as well. I do agree that you have made something consistent with the official modular line, especially with the interiors. Definitely one of the stronger entries so far. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

At first I thought the black wall was a little too dark, but it actually plays well with the rest of the park and gives it some contrast. I like that you took a photo of it sandwiched between a couple modulars as well - it fits in rather nice I think.

Great little church. The exterior detailing is restrained, but not overly simplified. The interiors really shine, though, and I love that you've taken photos of all the elements separately so that we can see them better.

This turned out really nice, Duncan! A lot of humor (that sunbather is priceless) and a very active a lively scene overall. The shower is a great detail, as is the whole pier really.

MOC: Mini Modular Galaxy Diner and Empire Theater

I already left a comment on flickr, but this is worthy of a second one here. This is a really great build, both in concept and execution. I could actually see this being part of the street with the official modulars and not standing out like a sore thumb - very impressive. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

MOC: Mini Modular Galaxy Diner and Empire Theater

I've updated the original post with a link to the LDD file on Brickshelf, but don't know if it is working correctly. Let me know if you have any trouble downloading it. -
I've been ignoring this far too long. This is a great build and extremely bold with both the colors and the details, but not overly so. I really like the canopy over the entrance and those curtains are so simple but brilliantly effective. Good luck with the contest, and blogged on Brick Town Talk!

That's one heck of a first attempt at building a modular! The outside is great, although it might benefit from a tad more variety in the upper floors, but the inside is beyond compare. To reiterate Darkblane's comment in the opening post, everyone needs to check out the flickr page to see more detailed views of the exhibits - each is unique and each is stunning. I hope this isn't the last modular we see from you. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

I'm a sucker for a good American diner, and you have certainly done them justice for this. The wedge pieces you've used on the facades are great, as is that hamburger sign. A lot going on inside as well - that jukebox and hat rack are both nice touches. I agree that the name should be something short - Tom's, Mel's, Hank's, etc.

B-M-05E While I was waiting for the last of my orders to finish my Bricklyn Borough Courthouse MOC, I got the 10230 Mini Modulars set and fell in love. I decided to try my hand at making my own, and based on the bricks I had laying around decided to make it of my Galaxy Diner and Empire Theater. I didn't quite have the bricks I needed, but I was able to complete the model in LDD. This was back in April, and between going straight from my courthouse model to pulling all-nighters for my 15 Central Park West model in now in the National Building Museum in Washington, DC and then taking a well deserved break, I never got around to ordering the final bricks to make the real thing until a couple weeks ago. As the original model was 32 x 64 studs, the mini version is 8 x 16 - too large for the contest, but since I was happy with how it turned out, I wanted to post it anyway. I am working with my LUG to get the LDD file posted, and I will update this post once it is in case anyone wants it. Enough talk. Here is the final model. This translated to the smaller format remarkably well, and most of the iconic features of the original theater and diner facades made it more or less intact. Here it is with the official Mini Modulars... ... and here it is with its big brother, the Cafe Corner scaled version. More photos are on my flickr account. REVISED UPDATE: The LDD file has been put up on my LUG's website - click here to go to the site. You might need to right-click and select "Save Link As" to get the file. Thanks for looking. Questions and comments are always appreciated!

eBay user sells instructions for other builder's MOCs
sonicstarlight replied to Badsneaker's topic in LEGO Town
I actually encourage people to make their own versions of my models - I'm always willing to answer questions or take additional pictures to help explain techniques or the like. What I am not encouraging is others producing instructions with zero input from me, stealing the photos I personally took from my flickr account, and then trying to profit on ebay by selling said design and instructions as their own to unsuspecting people. I honestly just don't have the patience to generate instructions on my own, and really design just for me and not for profit. Like I said, if anyone wants to replicate what I've done they are more than welcome, but surely this crosses some sort of line.
