Really great work! The house itself is very well done, both in the colors and the detailing. The garden out front really adds to the scene as well.

MOC : art nouveau and modern modular buildings
sonicstarlight replied to alex54's topic in LEGO Town
Great work yet again! I like your ability to mix styles and eras of architecture together seamlessly, just as most cities are in real life. Obviously the tan building is wonderful, but that little mod guy is actually quite clever upon closer look. You managed to make brick-built windows not look like brick-built windows, which is tricky to do. Once again, blogged on Brick Town Talk! -
Absolutely beautiful layout! This is a truly inspiring build all around, from the buildings themselves to the vehicles on the street. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

TLG survey time again - input please!
sonicstarlight replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Done. Like others have said, this one felt different than the others. I also haven't heard of a lot of those sites, and was a little sad to see mine not there (although I can't say I was surprised). -
These are all quite nice, and I think make a great street when put together. Despite using a lot of bright colors, I don't think that overall composition is too much - you've blended in a fair amount of the more neutral colors to even things out.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
sonicstarlight replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
I like the idea of a candy shop, and it certainly sounds the most realistic. I could see some kind of little Christmas tree farm with a building that maybe sold ornaments or decorations - possibly some poinsettias, too. -
I hate to bump my own topic, but if anyone wants to see this and is in the NYC area or is planning to go in the next 4 weeks, it is currently in one of the displays in the Rockefeller Center Lego Store. The diner was renamed the "ILUGNY Diner" in honor of my LUG - it will go back to Galaxy after coming out of the display.

Chili's Restaurant 2.0 and Pet shop alternative model
sonicstarlight replied to brickcitydepot's topic in LEGO Town
All three are excellent! This version of Chili's is a big step up from the original, and the original was pretty fantastic. I agree that Lego should put pictures of alternate models on the backs of the modular boxes again. I really regret not getting a second Cafe Corner when I had the chance to try and build the alternate for that. That skinny building is really interesting, but in the end I prefer the corner option. Blogged on Brick Town Talk! -
It's an interesting idea, but you are going to need them to be more than 4 studs deep to do it right. Both the corner buildings will give you trouble for obvious reasons, especially the sign over the door of the Grand Emporium. Even the Green Grocer needs at least 6 studs because of the stairs in the front and the sloping roof above. If you do try this digitally, be sure to post the results - I think a lot of us would be curious to see them.

Support the bringing back of Cafe Corner and Market Street
sonicstarlight replied to iKonoKlasT's topic in LEGO Town
Like a lot of people here, I also think this is a bad idea. I am completely in favor of Lego expanding the inventory of the pick-a-brick to make it possible to assemble the parts needed to build your own, though. Honestly, once it is built it doesn't matter where the pieces originated. On a semi-related note, I think that Cuusoo is an interesting idea but one that will never amount to anything. To get 10,000 people to support something Lego is insanely high - few MOC topics on this site or images hosted on flickr can even get a fraction of that many views, let alone people willing to post/favorite. -
MOC UK Style suburban semi detached house c1940s
sonicstarlight replied to snaillad's topic in LEGO Town
Another excellent build, snaillad! Between this and all your beautiful Deco buildings, I think you've become one of my favorite builders. You manage to find the perfect balance of detailing, both inside and out, that in the end result in some of the most appealing buildings I see posted. Blogged on Brick Town Talk! -

This was a huge surprise, at least for me. I've always loved it when people made MOCs of mini modulars, so to be able to get a full set straight from the source is great! As always, I do wish it were a little cheaper, but it's actually fairly reasonable compared to a lot of sets. Can't wait!

Every time I look at this I see a new detail I overlooked before. Excellent work, and I can't wait to see more from you. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

I also posted on flickr, but I just had to say more here! This is such a great creation in every way, and the technique you used on the palm trees is just genius. Blogged on Brick Town Talk!
-
Outstanding! The way the two play off each other is really great - it is difficult to make more modern designs fit in well with the rest of the modulars, but your brown building does it as well as any I've seen. Really nothing but praise from me! Blogged on Brick Town Talk!

This is truly great! The interiors are especially nice - that compact shelving on the top floor is really quite clever. There is a lot of white on the facade, which honestly doesn't bother me in the least - I'm a big fan of white buildings and am working on my second white modular now. Maybe if either the window frames were dark bley or some other color or if the railings in front of them were something other than white, then I think they would pop a bit more and just that little bit of contrast that may or may not help. I would love to see this brick-built one day, but I understand that price tag is a bit daunting.

WIP: Bates House MOC need advice/suggestions
sonicstarlight replied to Badsneaker's topic in LEGO Town
I wouldn't center the first two floor windows under the dormer ones, but I would move them towards the center by one stud if not two. Looking at the source material, the ground floor windows do line up with the ends of the porch, so I think it is fine for your build to do the same. Excellent work, by the way! -
Really great theater! I was wondering how you were going to fit everything inside when I first just saw the exteriors, but you have really managed to get a lot into just two floors! Lots to like, but I think your popcorn buckets are my favorite detail - so simple yet completely believable. Excellent job.
-
First of all, truly excellent work! This museum is wonderful inside and out, and I just saw some of you WIP shots on flickr of your next creation - equally beautiful! I thought this seller looked familiar, and someone in the topic about the next potential modular linked to them selling instructions for a Jamie Berard designed Town Hall which clearly can't be authentic either. I hope you have reported them to the site - posting creations that aren't yours on other sites is bad enough, but profiting from it is truly horrible. Thank you for bringing this to the board's attention.
-
Congrats Ricecracker! I'm liking all these promotions on the Town board!
-
My understanding is that the roof pieces are becoming easier to get since some are in the Pet Shop and thus they are back in production. The hardest thing to track down now are the 5-stud high doors and the dark blue arches. Still, as The Blue Brick says, it is cheaper to piece it out with Bricklink.

I'll admit that I do try and stop by In-N-Out anytime I am on the west coast. It's probably for the best they don't have any chains around me, at least in terms of my health! Blogged on Brick Town Talk!
-
All these mods of the Green Grocer help validate my opinion that it is the best of the modulars. 16-studs, 18-studs, 32-studs - it always looks stunning! I think I'll leave mine alone, though.
-
I hope it's true - Jamie Berard already did a Town Hall for a temporary exhibit back before the Fire Brigade came out, so maybe he just hasn't been able to let it die.
