DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
TheBatstan replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yup, it's pretty clear now more than ever that the Batmobile in that set is a deliberate homage to the original UCS version instead of the 1989 Batmobile, which I think is pretty cool. I still think I'm one of the very few on here who likes the Batwing design. It's not as good as the 2006 Batwing, but it's definitely a close second for me, miles better than the 2012 one. It looks great displayed in the Batcave as well, reminds me of how the original one included a stand so that you can put it in the 2006 Batcave. I still find it odd though that they decided to put in a docking section for the Batwing in the set, but not a turntable for the Batmobile that comes in the same wave... -

If anything, I'm willing to bet it's going to be a UCS 1989 Batmobile with exclusive Keaton Batman and Nicholson Joker minifigures. Along with Batman's 80th anniversary this year, it's also the 30th anniversary of the first Burton Batman film, and since they didn't include special minifigures in the Pursuit of the Joker set with that Batmobile, this would be the next best opportunity. -

On a side note, that newly revealed exclusive Lego House Dinosaurs set is absolutely perfect for a proper T-Rex trophy for any of the Batcaves. What great timing too, can't wait to see the instructions so that I can make one entirely in green. -

Huh, that's interesting. When I was looking under the "Themes" section on Shop at Home, it lists Lego Batman and DC Superheroes as two different categories, the same with Lego Spider-Man and Marvel Super Heroes as well. -

I'm surprised they made it a sticker this time since every other Joker card (including the non-Joker version with the Jester minifigure from Collectible Minifigures Series 12) we've ever gotten has always been printed. -

I don't really get the complaints about the Batwing. Yeah it's a little compact and blocky, but it's a pretty spot-on rendition of the 1989 design that it's clearly based off of: -

That could very well be true, especially since they already had the perfect wing pieces that matched the 1989 fins that they could've chosen to use instead of the Thestral wings: -

I still don't get why Lego decided to regulate Shazam to being shoved into a Batman set instead of his own DCEU tie-in set. I know Batman sells, but Shazam IS about to get his own movie, which is currently getting critical acclaim as well. They could've easily swapped in another character that would fit much better in the set, like a Rebirth Nightwing or Batgirl design. Last time we got standard comic minifigures of them (not counting the blue Nightwing polybag from 2016) was 5 years ago, and they've been through some pretty big changes since then. -

That's what I was thinking right after I posted this lol. They did the same thing with the UCS Tumbler, so it shouldn't be any different if it does end up being the Burtonmobile. -

Well isn't this a surprise. The Batmobile set is a little barren considering there's no other vehicle for Joker (Does he really expect to outrun the Batmobile on foot?), but the design is pretty cool. It looks more like a scaled down UCS Batmobile from 2006 instead of a 100% 1989 Batmobile though, the original 2006 Batmobile was way more accurate than this one. Bit of a missed opportunity to not have exclusive minifigures of a Keaton Batman and Nicholson Joker. The Mr. Freeze set doesn't look that bad either. Looks like Lego went for his New 52/Rebirth design rather than his DC Super Villains look like all the others have. At first I thought that Bat vehicle was some weird Tumbler design, but it's actually two Batcycles that can split apart, cool. The Batwing set is one I'm definitely getting with all that's included. Unlike most of the Batmobile's design, the Batwing looks like it came right from the '89 movie, and the GCPD car looks really good. Gordon's leg printing looks way better in this than the leaked photos too, and that exclusive Shazam is hard to pass up on (though why Batman needs his help to catch Riddler of all people...) The two 4+ sets are whatever, the castle-like mini Arkham is interesting with some great exclusive pieces and figures, but I really thought they'd throw in an exclusive Riddler instead of just reusing the one from the Batwing set. And finally, the Batcave. The descriptions weren't kidding when they said it looked like a blend of the past versions. It's has a darker color scheme like the 2006 version, with a structure set up mix of the 2012 and 2017 version. They even reused the exact same transformation feature from the 2012 Batcave in this one. It's kind of tiny though, I was expecting something a lot more bigger in size, a turntable for the Batmobile wouldn't have hurt either. For now it looks like the 2006 version still holds the top spot for best Batcave. Though it does have some great details. The area above the jail cell is where you can actually dock the Batwing, and they even included a small callback to the 2006 Batcave with that bench press build. The standout section for me is the trophy area. A mini dinosaur, a penny AND a Joker card? Sure they're not gigantic, but at least it's better than nothing. Clayface doesn't look the greatest and the Bat Tank looks more like a Bat Rover, and that Bruce Wayne is a pretty big letdown, he doesn't even look similar to the face that's under the cowl. Why they included Batwoman again instead of someone like Alfred is beyond me. Personally I think they should've had Tim Drake in his current Robin suit in the set instead of Damian again. Two-Face...the less I say about him the better. I'm surprised they made his suit red instead of pink like the game version and used a different hair piece as well, and that Catwoman makes this set very tempting. The Rebirth Batman in all these sets looks like a much better upgrade from the current one we have too, give him the dual molded boots from the Jokerland/BVS Batman and he'll be complete. Overall, not a bad wave, but there could be room for improvements. I'll definitely be getting most of these though. -

That could work, but for some reason I can't see that hair on him and not think of calling him SuperGordon/Gor-El. I just feel like it doesn't fit him properly (though it does sort of resemble his BTAS look to a degree). Bu that's probably the best option I have for now, either that or the Soldier 76 hairpiece from the Overwatch sets. -

The 1966 Alfred head is pretty much as perfect as you could get for a classic grey haired Gordon, which is what I'm definitely using once I get that torso. Though I still can't decide on what hair would fit best for him... -

Oh wow those legs were the last thing I was expecting when the leaks mentioned it being "extended to the legs", yeesh. But the good thing is it can be easily fixable with a pair of regular brown legs, like how he looked in Lego Batman: The Videogame. -

Small update (since we haven't gotten set pictures yet, somehow). According to the leakers, Gordon will have Bruce Wayne's hair from TLBM in brown, with a torso print of a white shirt/blue tie, and a "brown suit coat printed extended to the legs". So it looks like we're finally getting a proper brown trench coat Commissioner Gordon minifigure. -

I know this isn't the place to complain about certain DC minifigures, but after seeing Two-Face from the BTAS DLC pack for DC Super Villains just makes me that more annoyed that Lego opted to go for the bright pink torso Rebirth version from the game, when the perfect design was right in front of them this entire time! Even though it's just a color swap of the 2012 version's torso and legs, it just looks so much better like this, an upgraded 2006 Two-Face with all the right details. -

That description about the new Batcave being a "mix of TLBM and 2008" has me curious. We already know it's going to have a "dark and gloomy" aesthetic to it (much like the 2006 one), but I wonder how much it's going to pull from either Batcave in terms of set design. They both share the same 3 section structure with the Batcomputer being the center build and side builds with features of a rotating changing area and a holding cell, but they also have their differences. TLBM's Batcave has a rotating suit rack, while the 2006 Batcave has a turntable and a whole cannon defense tower section. It would be amazing if they managed to incorporate all those features together in one set this time, but with a chunk of the piece count probably going towards the brick built Clayface and Bat Tank, I probably shouldn't get my hopes up. Also, no Alfred again, this is becoming a running joke at this point. -

Wait, so if there's no Shazam set, then what was that post on Instagram talking about a set that came with 3 minifigures for $20? -

It doesn't look very Bruce Wayne-ish, and that head is apparently from the new Star Wars: Resistance Kaz minifigure. Then again, Lego has had a precedent in the past of reusing a head that was used for Bruce Wayne for other minifigures. Thanks to lines like Indiana Jones or the early Marvel sets, Bruce Wayne was also apparently a Nazi soldier, Loki, and even some of the recent DC sets have him as Lex Luthor, just to name a few. -

Two-Face's head looks great, but that design just confirms that they're using the DC Super Villains/Rebirth torso. So we're getting another brightly colored Two-Face torso, yay. Joker's torso is pretty interesting, though I kind of wish they kept the arm printing, it looks a little off without it. I see that Lego still intends to get some mileage out of that head and hair though, even if its been 7 years and he's never gotten a single new hair/head combo yet. Riddler as a whole doesn't look all that bad now that he's all together. I'd prefer if it was a normal green instead of lime green, but they peaked with the TLBM design anyways. I'm a little surprised Lego has never gone the Arkham route for Riddler yet and give him a face with green lens glasses instead of a mask, it would've made this minifigure at least a little more unique and make him look less like the Hamburglar. So far, Catwoman still takes first place for 'best new design' for me. -

That inmate torso would work perfectly with the 2013 Arkham Asylum, even better than the one was originally included in it with the inmate Joker minifigure. -

Speak of the devil, now the actual minifigure has leaked and she looks amazing. It's exactly like the DC Super Villains version minus the helmet (which still looks great, using TLBM Catwoman cowl in black with silver around the eyes). I'm definitely picking up whichever set she comes in. -

So according to the usual leak sources, the torso that belonged with the new Catwoman head is going to be this one, and use the helmet mold from The Lego Batman Movie Catwoman: I think it's safe to say that we're probably getting the best comic Catwoman minifigure to date in this upcoming wave. -

They really peaked with TLBM Riddler design, huh? At least we can still make the perfect Riddler with that torso and legs, either choice of 2012 or 2014 heads, and the green bowler hat from the 2014 Riddler Chase set. -

Thanks! So it's a slight variation of the Rebirth torso. I was really hoping for the Hush suit, but it is what it is.
