  1. Great work CptMugwash! Love the use of colour. You've got a great Arabian feel to it, this is just what I imagined Kaliphlin to look like. Can't wait to see your future MOCs!
  2. A fantastic addition to our Guild, Jake. Love the shape, SNOT wall-ends and the crane is a nice touch. I can totally imagine this place full of work (maybe you should show a photo with the employees working on a new design?). Keep up the good work.
  3. Fantastic work NiceMarmot! You definitely earned your title of Master Cartographer! Love the new additions to the map - cities and descriptions. It's probably got enough detail at this scale without making it too cluttered, so I would say your idea of several scaled in areas is a good one. I will try and finish my tower on Sunday and maybe flesh out the Emir of Gorr's character (I have him sitting here, just need some photos) and I have quite a few ideas for MOCs. With a more detailed map of each area we can start to add in all the MOCs we create on the map - that way we know where everything is!
  4. Wow! What a beautiful ship. We'd love to see your ship in the harbour of Stone Town. Come and trade with us - we are always looking for good timber, iron, ale and slaves (don't tell Dextrus Flagg!). Greetings from the South
  5. Wow, they sure don't look dressed for the cold! Lovely abandoned tower, nice use of that baseplate. Greetings from the South
  6. Lovely work Matn. I like the trees and sense of isolation you've captured.
  7. Welcome to the South Darecold! The Emir of Gorr is always willing to make a deal with any traders...we deal in many things such as bananas, cloves, honey, hides, beef and fish. Be careful navigating the treacherous waters of the Spice Islands to reach us on Gorr, there are many uncharted rocks which could destroy your well laid plans. Fortunately we are constructing a lighthouse to guide you through the channel - it's best to stay shielded in the channel from the strong winds and sea-creatures which roam on the west side of Gorr. Feel free to come and visit us in Stone Town someday - the Emir's dancing girls are famed throughout the land. Safe travels until then, Wahil Musca (ambassador to the Emir)
  8. Great work Stefan, a fantastic entry. Nice diagonal offset and windows.
  9. Everyone has to start somewhere. We all had to get into the LEGO groove somehow, and an event like the Guilds is a great opportunity to show off what you can do and improve. Replacing the guns with crossbows, and making that excellent scene you've shown, would be a great introduction to the Guild. PS - Good luck in the finals.
  10. Lovely tower Viceroy! I like the way you've added so many other details - you've done well with the 32x32 space. Hope to see more from you. Greetings from the South!
  11. Hi Chief Justice Lego! It would be great to have you on-board. Do you have a Flickr page? With regards to gunpowder - I am sure our dwarven master will have the final say - but for my 2 dinars I would try and avoid it where possible. This is more a "medieval fantasy" type thing than anything else. None of my MOCs will have any gunpowder in them. Feel free to seek further clarification however!
  12. Andonii, thanks for posting all these here. It's helpful to see them all together. If you want this to be even more useful, you could edit the original post to also include a link to where you got them map from. That way if someone clicks on the photo they are taken to a larger version if they want to study it in more detail. Other than that, very good work!
  13. My Lord, I am but your humble servant! The masons are needed elsewhere tonight, but they hope to be finished construction well before the deadline. As always, your will is iron. Wahil I think we've done well so far with entries. There's quite a few people who haven't shown their hand yet, so hopefully we will get a few more towers to enter. As one of the smaller guilds, we can't really afford to lose members throughout the course of this or we may struggle for entries! More people are still joining the guild, and we have by far the best map (well done NiceMarmot) and already some great towers (4 completed and 4 WIPs). So I don't think we need worry! Good job updating the first post, that helps to find everything! I know it's probably a pain keeping it up to date, but it's so much easier for everyone else!
  14. Looks great NiceMarmot! The colours and architecture is just perfect for what I imagined our guild to look like. Great minifigs too, they fit right in well. Nice use of fruit and vegetables to add to the market vibe. I loved the story too, that helped to present the MOC. Look forward to your future builds.
  15. Good work Kustig! Great minifigures there, they look intimidating. Your tower might be small, but it is well built. We will need strong towers like this to guard the deserts. Hope to see more MOCs from you!
  16. Absolutely gorgeous. If this is your first MOC, I can't to wait to see your future ones!
  17. Great challenge ideas proposed by Waterbrick Down and Axel. I think mini-challenges are a good idea, but I would suggest each member chooses what they want to build, rather than forcing a challenge on someone. I know that I In addition to the above, I would also suggest: Observatory - mapping the stars is an important learning point (Burj Sina already covers this) Siege workshop - remind the world what they will see outside their cities if they cross us Kaliphlinians! Lighthouse - trade is the lifeblood of our great nation, build a lighthouse to guide shipping safely into our ports (this is what I will be building for the watchtower challenge) Royal mint - the trade in oil makes us rich, with dinars with Dextrus Flagg's head being used in all 4 lands. Show them being minted! Docks/shipbuilding - show the construction of a ship or unloading of cargoes in a busy port Palace - our leaders need a place to call home...build them a grand palace Public baths - traders need somewhere to relax and discuss business, show Kaliphlin is a place our culture with public baths Plantation - cash crops augment the oil revenue, show a plantation being worked (e.g. cloves, spices, bananas, etc) (these are intended as ideas rather than contests) I think an index on the first post would help. That way we could have links to all the MOCs as well as a list of all ideas, titles, etc. Hail, my dear friend Rasputin. It is very kind of you to enquire about the tower. The masons have taken delivery of all the sandstone, and are working as we speak. I will report to the Guild with progress when the tower is nearly completed. Wahil *************************** EDIT: Didn't want to double post, so added some more stuff below! My Lord Flagg. I write to you with good news. After being whipped for his drunkenness yesterday, my master mason has made significant progress on the lighthouse. The sandstone arrived from the Qarkyr mines, and if I do say so myself it shines well in the sun. I am giving the work team a break now, as they have worked well today, so progress will resume tomorrow. I have enclosed a brief sketch my scribe took for me - I hope it meets my Lord's approval. If any members of the Guild wish to advise my mason on how it could be improved, he is willing to listen to feedback. Your will is iron, Lord. Wahil WIP Shot - Red Tower by Cuahchic, on Flickr
  18. Great architecture, particularly around the windows. Nice work.
  19. Looks great! Fantastic tower.
  20. Great steps and landscaping. Loving the tower too!
  21. Reversing the mountains/desert orientation is fine. I'm going for a fairly bleak landscape on Gorr - more like scorched savannah rather than tropical paradise. The Sudite tribesmen are a hardy bunch! Thanks for including these suggestions. ***** Loving the "Lick of Salt" for the river name - I endorse this wholeheartedly! ***** PS - Great ram Jake!
  22. A few ideas for the excellent map made by NiceMarmot: (1) River in Gorr: River Zenagi? (2) Gorr should probably have a couple of mountains just north-west of where the text "Gorr" is located just now. The east coast (north of the river) should probably be desert. (3) Just because it sounds cool, I think the desert between Petraea and Qarkyr should be called "The Parched Lands". This would reflect it lacking in water, obviously! Feel free to disagree. ***** Also, congratulations to Christoph for being the first to complete his watchtower. A high standard set from the start.
  23. Awesome tower Christoph! A great start for our Guild. I think yours is the first completed tower. Love the recessed walls and the pattern. I have to say, that's a mighty fine telescope
  24. Some fantastic minifigures posted recently, really they are excellent. Some great variety in this Guild. ******************************* Lord Flagg, I write to you to inform you of my progress so far. I have rounded up some slave labourers to work on the tower, a grand lighthouse to guide our merchant shipping through the treacherous rocks around the Spice Islands, as well as watching for enemy vessels. Unfortunately, our masons have already used the first batch of red sandstone from the mines near Qarkyr. More has been ordered, but I fear it will take several nights to get downriver. I have met the new Emir of the my people. His bones are older than my own, but he promises to lead the Sudites in support of our joint goals. His armies are mostly tribal levies, but they are a hardy people used to cattle raiding and inter-tribal warfare. They will make good light infantry and skirmishers, although a firm hand will be required to reign them in. The Emir is also equipping some of his tribesmen with more modern armour and weaponry to give them more staying power on the battlefield - his blacksmiths are working through the night and as soon as these men are ready they will be presented for your judgement. I have also commissioned some new galleys for patrolling the waters off Gorr - Bahru is overseeing their construction and writes to me daily with progress. Your will is iron, Lord. Wahil Musca
  25. Just for the record - you are exactly 2 years older than me!
