Fantastic work kabel! Love the buildings and scale of this MOC. Great mixing of light and dark grey (bley?) for the walls.

MOC: Mt Agnathka Lookout (Kaliphlin Watchtower)
Basiliscus replied to NiceMarmot's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely work NiceMarmot! Your image editing skills are excellent, I love the way the MOC blends into the background. The SNOT work for the main tower walls is nice, as is the mix of colours on the roof. Keep up the good work! -

NiceMarmot, I would never be as presumptuous to take a Lordship over an area without Lord Flagg's approval! Lovely tower too mate! That's fine anyway, I don't want to Lord over anyone else, just give me a piece of land to work with because I have quite a few ideas for my next MOCs. I am quite happy with Stone Town and a small area around that - I just need a small area of savannah and desert. Besides, I don't see why we can't build anywhere within Kaliphlin - I have a few ideas for non-Sudite MOCs too. I want to build up Stone Town a bit and show it off - right after I finish the Emir's army so the other guilds know not to mess with us Kaliphlinians! PS - I am away with work 11th - 16th December and might not have internet access - just to let you all know! -

NiceMarmot - great to hear your ideas about Kaliphlin geography, your knowledge of these things continues to amaze me! So if I understand correctly - Gorr would most likely be: Central - desert North - sandy beaches, Mediterranean climate East - Rainy, rocky South - mangrove swamps and jungle Southwest - cliffs If so, that sounds good to me! I am happy to roll with this, that gives me plenty of diversity. One thing to add is that surrounding the deserts is an area of savannah - reasonably dry but with scattered grassland. ********** Lord Flagg, the moment has come! On this splendid day my artist managed to capture the likeness of the Ra'ad Twur for all to see. The Emir hopes that this beacon of light will help deter pirates and guide the trade vessels through the Straights of Gorr. This will only benefit everyone involved, and the Emir will ensure your increased tithe is sent when he has seen the larger profits in his own coffers. Your will is iron, Lord. Wahil Musca, Ambassador to the Emir of Gorr -
On the eastern side of Gorr run the Straights of Gorr - a busy shipping lane. Ships carrying their wares from the Spice Islands and Stone Town venture off to Barga, Eastgate and on to Avalonia and Mitgardia, or eastwards toward Berigora and on to Nocturnus. In the straights there are many small rocks and islets on which ships can run aground, as well as pirates looking to prey on bloated cargo vessels. The Emir of Gorr, in his infinite wisdom, decided to encourage trade and deter piracy by building a series of watchtowers along the coast. The grandest of these was built from the famed red sandstone mined near Qarkyr and is known as "Ra'ad Twur", translating as the "Red Tower". It's fiery beacon burns from the Kaliphlin oil and can be seen for many miles out to sea. Tending to this saving ray of light is a solitary lighthouse keeper. The camel caravans come from Stone Town once a month to bring much needed supplies, but other than that he only has the vastness of the empty ocean to keep him company. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the replies guys. Big Cam - I have been on EB before at work (and after one of these events too) so I don't think it's blocked at work. I can get on other sites no problem, it just seems to be EB. Thanks for the comment though! Hinckley - Thanks for that! I wondered if all this Historica business had meant more people accessing than normal?

Lovely little scene there de Gothia. Great little building, and nice use of foliage!

Lovely work mikey! Great design, and I still love that door archway!

Hi all, I usually access EB either from Chrome (v 15.0.874.121 m) on my Windows XP PC or through my Android (Gingerbread) phone. On several occasions during the last week I have had the "Chrome cannot display this webpage" message (and the equivalent on my phone). At first I thought it might be a problem with my router but I have tried it through the router at work as well as my mobile network. It only happens intermittently so I wondered if it was maybe a server overload type issue? If anyone can help with this I'd really appreciate it! Cheers, Colin

Lovely work Viceroy. Fantastic map and love the original post - the "Guide Includes" part reminds me a lot of the Jetlag travel guides which I based my fictional country of Legaña on. Keep up the good work!
-
Nice work Axel. Lovely little tower and nice backstory - it seems like this is what would happen deep in the desert.
-
Nice work Dan. Great use of 2x2 tiles inbetween the arches, it gives a nice texture. The general layout is very well done and the bend in the river is very natural. Minor complaint: that fedora looks somewhat out of place. But that's me really being harsh, overall the MOC is excellent!

Lovely work there ISC. At first I wasn't too sure about the mix of colours but it actually adds to the feeling of confusion one would feel when in such a maze. The tower in the centre is excellent. Good work! (Hope my character Wahil Musca doesn't end up inside the maze )

Some great MOCs there from CptMugwash and NiceMarmot. Also great to see a new Guild member, Brickmaestro ***** Lord Flagg, it is your loyal servant Wahil Musca writing to you with news. My architect has reported that the Ra'ad Twur is now completed! As my architect checks over the structure I hope it will meet my Lord's approval. However, the light is fading here and my artist complains that he cannot sketch the finished work under such conditions. I threatened to have him whipped for his disobedience but he did not relent, so I must take him at his word - for who am I to argue against such honesty? But my news is not finished there, Lord! Emir Hirgu of Gorr has offered me a place in his household. I am waiting for an opportune moment to ask for my artist to record his likeness, but as you can imagine Lord it is a delicate matter and I must handle it so. The Emir has little time for such trivialities now because he is gathering the Sudite tribes in Stone Town to show our Lord his military might. Finally I am back in the arms of my people after so long wandering the deserts. The Emir has asked me to show the world his capital city, Stone Town. I will be inviting dignitaries from the other 3 Guilds to visit the Emir and my artist has promised to sketch these historic meetings. As always, I will let you know of progress. Your will is iron, Lord. Wahil ***** EDIT: No new posts, so didn't want to double-post! Tower is now 100% completed, but a few things came up tonight so I didn't get a chance to take proper photos. Rest assured these will come by the weekend! Lord Flagg, I write to you again. My last pigeon has barely arrived, I realise, but I do not wish to delay when I have news for the one I serve. The Emir Hirgu very graciously allowed my artist to sketch his likeness. He interrupted his busy schedule for me Lord, so you will appreciate if it is not the best my artist could do. I also met with my peer, and one of the most powerful men in the Emir's kingdom, the eunuch Navros. He is the Emir's vizier, and a slave at that, but one an ordinary man would not wish to cross. He has the Emir's ear and I treat him with the respect necessary of a man in his privileged position. My artist captured him here with many other residents of Stone Town - these are not followers, just ordinary citizens looking for his patronage: help with a warrant, suggesting a relative for a position within the Emir's household, and such like. His help does not come cheap, and the bribes he takes make him rich - and with money comes power, as I am sure my Lord knows. As always, your will is iron Lord. Wahil -
MOC: Zigar-an-Gifuzi (Kaliphlin Watchtower)
Basiliscus replied to NiceMarmot's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice work NiceMarmot. Love the colour scheme here - the mixture of white, light blue and medium flesh looks great! It gives a nice sense of being different. I like your idea about the hot springs, a very different concept and one I wouldn't have thought of myself. Good job -
MOC: Dragon Warrior from the Werewolves
Basiliscus replied to Hersbrucker's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely dragon Hersbrucker! Nice little enclosure you've built there for your minifig. Wouldn't want to cross them! -
Lovely work Hersbrucker! Great ship, very intimidating! I wouldn't like to see one of these off the coast of Kaliphlin! (unless they were trading of course)
-
Superb work CptMugwash! Lovely build for our guild. That first picture with the guard is really nice, I love the architecture. I really think you delivered this well! Glad to have you in our guild

Nice work robuko. Love the story and how each picture is 100% LEGO. Good luck trading those glass wares! -
Lovely work mikey! Nice way to make use of that Kaliphlin oil without being too unrealistic. Wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of that!

Some great towers from mikey and CptMugwash - we were slow to start but making up for it now. My tower should be completed tomorrow. J4ke is pumping out some great MOCs! After I finish the watchtower challenge I hope to produce 3 scenes showing other Guilds visiting Stone Town. More on that later. Fonzy - welcome to our Guild! I hope you can build a tower before the end of the challenge. Fantastic map by NiceMarmot - my advice to anyone thinking of joining is always join the Guild with the best map! -
Interesting ideas lorax. Love the forced perspective background. Aphrodisiacs is something we don't require in Kaliphlin!

Brilliant work mikey! Great use of the wooden beams, it reminds me of Malian architecture. Lovely use of half-stud offsets throughout. Nice work with the arches at the door entrance - using that 1x3 arch to bridge the gap was inspired. Hope to see more from you in our Guild!
