  1. I agree with this sentiment. I designed my own CCBS Matoran concept without elbows with this same idea in mind. This is why I feel the Protector of Ice is fine without elbows, but the Protector of Fire needs them more. The Protector of Fire's shoulders are raised, so his arms really do need one or two additional modules in length. It's also worth noting that forearms aren't as important to the Protector of Fire and Protector of Ice from a functional standpoint as they are for the Protector of Water, Protector of Stone, and Protector of Jungle. Those three sets all have two-handed weapons, meaning their articulation would be much more limited if they didn't have forearms (or even if their elbow joints were of the guided sort used for the Protector of Earth). The Protector of Fire and Protector of Ice both have separate weapons for each hand, so they can still be put in plenty of different poses even without forearms.
  2. To me, its shape recalls the shape of some Native American hammers, which I think is pretty appropriate considering the assorted tribal imagery of the new BIONICLE!
  3. Those are titles that the staff give to members, sometimes as rewards, sometimes as jokes. See this topic.
  4. Something I do sort of wonder is whether future waves of Elves might introduce any kind of antagonist. Currently it's got the makings of a great adventure story even without one, but even shows like My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop include occasional antagonists to provide person-versus-person conflict. It's not as though including an antagonist would be a first for a girl-oriented LEGO theme, of course. Belville had multiple sets with witches, such as 5804, 5808, 5838, and 5962. Still, I think it would do a lot to enhance play and storytelling opportunities in current girl-oriented themes.
  5. This is amazing! We should try to get Legends of Chibi trending in the MOCing community.
  6. That is such a cool mech!
  7. Good review. I think this Protector is definitely a nice design. The lack of forearms doesn't bother me really, since the length of the arm is still decent relative to the torso. I think what makes the Protector of Fire's arms look so awkward is not so much that they're spread apart as that they're raised up one module from the torso beam's native shoulder joints, and as such you'd expect them to be one or two modules longer. The "bundled up" look suits this fellow just as well as it suited Kopaka, and the color scheme is very stylish. He looks very different from Kopaka on account of the lack of gold. I don't have any problem with the way the ice energy piece is attached to the blaster, personally. It's just a shame that the "powered up" Kopaka is so inelegant... I'm SURE there's a better way that the Protector of Ice's creative weapons could have been integrated with Kopaka's.
  8. My reviews of 70784 Lewa - Master of Jungle and 70786 Gali - Master of Water have been posted to The New Elementary! http://www.newelementary.com/2014/12/review-lego-bionicle-2015-70784-lewa-70786-gali.html
  9. I think the leaf icon represents the element of Earth. I don't think the elves will be broken up into factions — however, it is clear that each of the main elves is associated with a different element that they control (Farran controls Earth, Azari controls Fire, Aira controls Air, and Naida controls Water). Perhaps all elves in their society control the elements, or perhaps these four are special, like the ninja from LEGO Ninjago. There are also smaller 1x1 round tiles with elemental icons, used on the four magical keys.
  10. Since the Skull Spiders are all about stealing masks, and Makuta is also obsessed with gathering masks of power, I have a feeling they're doing that on his behalf.
  11. I love the character designs. I'm just now noticing that each of the four main elves has a unique tattoo/birthmark on their left shoulder. The box art in general looks epic as well. I can't wait to learn more about this theme! It definitely seems like something I'm going to want to collect next year, in addition to BIONICLE and Ninjago. It has a lot of the same magic that drew me to those themes, but also plenty of unique appeal of its own.
  12. I'm impressed how much BIONICLE 2015 fan art I've already seen! Check out this image that I just made my current desktop wallpaper! I'd like to do some BIONICLE 2015 fan art of my own, but every time I sit down to draw I have no idea where to start...
  13. I'm not sure what exactly you mean? The leg printing looks just fine to me. It lines up correctly with the torso printin, and the outlines are just as sharp and the colors just as bright as on the torso. Perhaps you were expecting printing on the sides of the legs? But if so, I can't imagine why... printing on the sides of legs is still extremely rare, and usually still reserved for figs who are wearing shorts, boots, or a skirt. Lots of figs (including this past year's Ninja) don't get leg printing at all. These outfits are pretty nice, despite mostly being palette swaps (aside from the emblems and slight differences in the belts) The Anacondrai figs we're getting definitely look cool, though it's a bit of a break from tradition in that they all feature snake tails instead of legs, whereas in 2012 that trait was reserved for the Serpentine generals.
  14. Something I was just wondering about. A lot of people have noticed discrepancies between the mask names of Lewa and the Protector of Jungle and the mask names of the other Toa and Protectors. Instead of "Mask of {Element}", "Golden Mask of {Element}", and "Protector Mask of {Element}", these masks are called "Jungle Mask", "Golden Jungle Mask", and "Protector Jungle Mask". It's easy to dismiss these differences as errors, but the fact that this discrepancy affects all of the Jungle-related masks but not any masks of other elements leads me to wonder... do you think these names might be glimpses of a new version of treespeak?
  15. Alternatively, it could just be preliminary. It's not unheard of for there to be discrepancies between prerelease teasers for digitally animated shows and the finished episodes.
  16. This topic was posted to the LEGO Message Boards, with this attachment. The writing on the scroll seems to be just faux-Asian gibberish and not any sort of real language (it could be a cipher, but since there's no key I strongly doubt it). So it's just a little teaser for what's to come.
  17. Good review! Incidentally, I know the equipment doesn't make for a whole lot of great poses from a display standpoint, since it's designed for swimming, but in terms of play I found that it helps the set feel very dynamic and, dare I say, "swooshable". Bionifigs.com was able to get some neat "action poses" in their review photos (including this set), using transparent plastic armatures from high-end action figures. It really helps me to see how having an official LEGO version of that sort of thing could be great from a display standpoint!
  18. When I say "weird" I don't mean that it doesn't make sense. It makes plenty of sense for the characters and universe. But it's something that makes the characters that much more strange and alien than if they were JUST living creatures or JUST robots. That's not meant as a criticism, just to indicate that people who can deal with that concept in the first place are probably prepared to deal with a bit of additional weirdness. After all, there isn't really any answer to the question of "where do these biomechanical characters come from" that ISN'T weird in one way or another.
  19. Yeah, but the biomechanical part is pretty weird on its own... if anything, the fact that the characters can have actual families makes them feel more normal to me than classic BIONICLE characters in some respects. We don't know exactly how they reproduce... but it's not like that's something a kids' series should necessarily need to go out of its way to explain.
  20. Looks pretty cool! I like that we finally get a face print with her high-tech eyepiece! I am still a bit upset that we haven't gotten a minifigure of her in her new default outfit from "Rebooted", but hey, we got Dareth and Lloyd DX minifigures this year, so anything's possible! Awesome! Love Garmadon's new outfit! Skylar, Zane, and the other ninja look great too! Sounds exciting!
  21. Plus a brand-new remix of "The Weekend Whip!"
  22. I think he was referring to the logo used in the new Star Wars Rebels TV series, which is less symmetrical and more bird-like than the classic Rebel Alliance logo. Example.
  23. I'm pretty sure Vultrix is female. Printed curves. Plus "-trix" is basically the feminine equivalent of "-tor" in Latin, hence names like "Bellatrix".
  24. Somehow I think a set containing 30 elements that don't appear in any other sets might cost more than that. Remember LEGO keeps a fixed number of elements in production at any one time — 30 elements that only appear in one set is 30 elements that can't be used in other sets.
  25. Yep, I think this is exactly the case. The only Technic parts I remember seeing on Pick-A-Brick walls in recent years are large Technic turntables. However, it should be noted that this past year, the LEGO Group started including special monthly parts on the Pick-A-Brick wall with labels like "Works great with LEGO City" or "Works great with LEGO Star Wars". Most of the time, these parts were not much unlike what they stock normally, but who knows? Maybe with BIONICLE's return being presented as such a big deal they might add some parts with the label "Works great with LEGO BIONICLE".
