  1. The Elves teaser site has been updated with a new video! It's labeled as a trailer... but it's 23 minutes long, so... yeah, it's the full animated special! The pacing feels a little rushed at the very beginning, but it does start to find its groove a few minutes in. The music is fantastic. EDIT: And now it's been taken down. Guess it wasn't supposed to go up so soon... still, glad I got to see it! I'm definitely satisfied with the storytelling and the production quality. I do hope it ends up becoming a full series or at least an ongoing miniseries!
  2. I did some shopping at Barnes & Noble earlier and was happy to see that A Team Divided actually contains an original story, not just an adaptation of a TV episode like the previous chapter book Snake Attack! Specifically, it takes place prior to the current season, showing how the Ninja first part ways and settle into the non-Ninja roles we see them in at the start of the current season. As I see it, it's an exceptionally well-written book. Props to Tracey West for crafting a story that feels so authentic and seamlessly bridges the gap between Ninjago: Rebooted and the new season.
  3. So conversely, without getting into a religious debate, what is it that makes souls in organic creatures any less "confusing and mind-crushing"? Most people I know don't consider souls something that "evolved" or something that is in any way tied to our fleshy substance. Nor do people think of the presence of a soul as a hereditary trait. Obviously, we're used to thinking of machines as soulless entities, because in our world that's generally how it is. But in a sci-fi context, that is not necessarily the case. Even our brains, the center of our reasoning, operate through electrical signals, and our genetic material is simply an elaborate code. If these once mysterious aspects of human functioning can be broken down into a digital sequence, who's to say that things like emotion could not?
  4. Actually, that's not a new piece. It's one of these and one of these.
  5. featuring Cole's bike, and a detailed look at many of the other sets!It looks like Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty and possibly some of the other sets come with spare hair pieces for the Ninja, even though they wear full hoods in those sets! Quite nice!
  6. High-res pics of the new Elves polybag set: Main Package EDIT: And the sets are on shop.LEGO.com! Still "coming soon", of course. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Elves-byTheme
  7. Bear in mind that it's not a physical mask or even a 3D render. It's concept art, and concept art is frequently even more detailed than the final product. Case in point, this image.
  8. Having reported on a Toy Fair myself, I have to say you guys are being very hard on Atamaii.com. Keep in mind that Atamaii does not only cover LEGO. They cover all kinds of different toys (as an example, just this afternoon they posted a video of Big Hero 6 toys from Nuremberg Toy Fair), and they can't plan their entire release schedule according to the demands of a handful of LEGO fans. Who knows how much pressure they might be getting from other toy enthusiasts to cover different LEGO themes or different toy brands entirely? Give the guys a break and don't call them "lazy" just because they don't make you their number one priority.
  9. Blue is her favorite color...
  10. I'm not saying that the samurai version doesn't come in any summer sets, just that it was introduced in the winter sets and we're getting a new version introduced in the summer. Really, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for that new minifigure to be Skylor, seeing as her collar is the same as Nya's has always been and she has Nya's phoenix emblem. That makes it pretty clear to me that it's either Nya or Nya's heretofore unseen time-traveling daughter from the distant future. Unless... gasp... Skylor IS Nya's time-traveling daughter from the distant future!
  11. The Samurai figure on the turntable is the same one from the first half of the year. I'm pretty sure Nya's getting a second (non-Samurai) costume this year. I would have liked for her non-Samurai costume to be more of a "plainclothes" costume like the one she often wore in "Rebooted" rather than another battle costume, but it's still cool to see her getting more recognition this year. Though it is a shame that we don't get a new Skylor... I think Ninjago could definitely stand to have more than one recurring female character.
  12. Oh dear... if I'm correct in counting, there are 25 new figures, including 13 ghosts! Couple that with the 26 figures from the winter sets and the Stone Armor Kai we know is coming later in the year, and this is going to be a busy, busy year for Ninjago collectors! Myself included! Maybe some of those ghosts are duplicates, though...?
  13. Update: cache.LEGO.com now has many more Elves pics in high resolution, including the finalized box pics! 41071 Main Alt1 Alt2 Alt3 Alt4 Alt5 41072 Main Alt1 Alt2 Alt3 Alt4 Alt5 41073 Main Alt1 Alt2 Alt3 Alt4 Alt5 Alt6 41074 Main Alt1 Alt2 Alt3 Alt4 Alt5 41075 Main Alt1 Alt2 Alt3 Alt4 Alt5 Alt6 Alt7 41076 Main Alt1 Alt2 Alt3 Alt4 There's also now a "Coming Soon" page on shop.LEGO.com! Some of the links don't work, but it's still pretty cool! http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Elves EDIT: And a detailed from Nuremberg Toy Fair!
  14. I just now noticed that the package of the hero pack has the prototype Mask of Creation in the corner in place of the final one.
  15. It probably counts the sticker sheet and some of the other bonus material as parts.
  16. Huh! You learn something new every day! It's new, but it's also available in Warm Gold in 41074 and in Lavender in 41078 (one of the summer sets).
  17. This looks great, but I've never heard of anybody roasting an apple over a fire like that. Also, that's quite the typo. "Azaris's".
  18. Elves set pics are now on cache.LEGO.com. However, there are not many of them, and for some bizarre reason, some of them are preliminary and have confidential stamps... why would images with confidential stamps even be on the site? o_O 41071 Main Alt1 41072 Main Alt1 41073 Main Alt1 41074 Main Alt1 41075 Main Alt1 41076 Main Alt1
  19. Personally, Warrior just doesn't do it for me. Maybe part of it is just the awkward way he's posed, but the chaotic armor and color blocking just makes his design feel imbalanced to me. Even if I did like his design, though, that would still be all the more reason NOT to have Slicer share that same physique, because that would leave the two sets feeling more redundant. The idea that a character needs armor for you to be able to tell they are a skeleton doesn't make any sense to me. It's still painfully obvious that Skull Slicer is undead even without extra armor spoiling his bony silhouette. Why should we assume that he was once a living creature of the same shape, or that he was as heavily armored as the others when he was alive, or that he ought to have kept any of that bulk in death? His extra arms give him all the added bulk that I think he needs.
  20. Skull Basher and Grinder basically do have as much armor as some of those examples you linked to. But conversely, just because they're skeletons doesn't mean they should HAVE bulky armor either. Variety is the spice of life (and in this case, undeath). And there are undead warriors in other franchises that opt for a more "bare-bones" approach. All things considered, one of the things I love about Skull Slicer is that he does feel unique compared to the others. Rather than some armored brute, he looks lean and agile. And I'm already cringing at the prospect of "revamps" that would seek to turn a character like that into an armored powerhouse out of some misguided notion that more armor is inherently better.
  21. The pegasus is just a LEGO Friends horse with added wings and fantasy printing. You could presumably just use the wings on a classic LEGO horse just as easily. Granted, they won't be as secure with just a single clip instead of a double clip, and most classic LEGO horses have printed bridles that might look inappropriate on a pegasus in certain contexts. doesn't show us much we haven't already seen, but I figure I'll share it anyhow.
  22. Personally, I think Skull Slicer looks great. More armor would have just seemed out-of-place, IMO — as it is, the thin, skeletal look really suits him and gives him a unique personality compared to his bulkier counterparts. Though I do think the single Tr. Flu. Reddish Orange shell seems a bit inappropriate, being all by itself like that. And it's a shame the orange chain doesn't match his other orange pieces.
  23. The new skull guys look very cool. The only one I don't really like is Skull Warrior, whose chaotic asymmetry just isn't doing it for me. But a better pose might help that set's look. New masks look great. Silver Metallic torso beams will be cool to have, though I wish Skull Scorpio's legs were black instead of Titanium Metallic. The bony shell pieces are definitely interesting, though it's hard to really judge how useful they are until I can see their size and connection points for myself. And the new detail pieces really do a lot to give these characters an evil look. Still not entirely sold on the new beam pieces, but in the very least they look nice on these sets and enhance the undead look.
  24. Glad to see that even some of the humanoid baddies will have unconventional action features, rather than just every one of them having the same vertically-swinging arms as the Toa! I was worried, after learning that most of the new baddies were humanoid, that we wouldn't see a whole lot of creativity on a functional level. But it's good to see that that's not the case. Incidentally, I'm not sure if it's been brought up here, but there are rumors of Star Wars buildable figure sets. Not clear if these are pure CCBS sets (the descriptions we've gotten seem a bit contradictory), but this might be part of the reason for the new "bony" beam pieces — a lot of droids in the Star Wars universe have very bony limbs that the existing CCBS beams might not be the most fit to replicate.
