  1. I ask because I have submitted an entry into CCCVII (using only Brickshelf for hosting images), and I don't think it will be of much use when people can't see the pictures in all their glory.
  2. I have to apologise: that isn't the cheapest way to get a dragon... THIS is: It's pretty much the same set (except you get Cedric the Bull, the leader of the barbarians), but it was even cheaper. I don't have it, though I remember it costing an equivalent of less than $3...
  3. Thank you for the advice, but I have yet to review an actual BIG set... I think I might do one in the future (from Dino Island); don't count on it, though.
  4. Thank you! I like that, too! Yeah, well... I tried to experiment a little with the legs and the feet to make something better, and each time I tried some another idea, it was worse than the original, and then I remembered how I had spent a lot of time doing the exact same thing 3 years ago, and thought that any "new" ideas I would come up with would inevitably have already been tested by me 3 years earlier, and that's why I chose the design you can see here... and thus I just gave up. It's like my style of building didn't change one bit over those 3 years!
  5. Greetings!
  6. I read somewhere that the Tic-Tac-Toe minifigures are of worse quality than the ones from normal sets. In any case, great finds! Although the Brickmaster book is not worth that money, I think...
  7. Well, what else can you say about this set? And yes, I realise my "reviews" are crappy, but I have noticed I have some sets built that hadn't been reviewed here, so... I guess it's better than nothing.
  8. I suppose it suits this board, as it could be conceived as a Dino Island MOC. But please move this to a more appropriate board, if necessary. I actually built this over 3 years ago; only today I have tweaked some minor details a little. Here's an overall view of it: Uh, just ignore that parrot... I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to have been able to meet with a quetzalcoatlus. In the following picture, it is seen fishing in a river: I really wanted to give it the ability to walk on all fours, like you always see them do in those CGI dinosaur movies. Here it's going airborne: You can see the tiny tail I gave it.
  9. - the price (OK, not really a property of the set itself...) - a horse held with chains (it seems weird to me) - unnecessarily big wheels - those pikes look as if they were about to hit the horse, not an enemy... - ...and the crossbow looks as if it were about to do the same... - overall, the chariot looks too "violent" for a king's charriot, in my opinion (oh wait, it says "King's Battle Chariot", but still...) - compare this to the Lion King's wagon from 1995... no contest here
  10. Ugh... come on, that has to be one of the worst designed castle sets ever... And it IS overpriced!
  11. Theme: Adventurers Subtheme: Jungle Year released: 1999 Pieces: 24 Minifigs: 1 Price: I bought it for an equivalent of about $2.5, if I remember right This was the smallest set that included the Ruler of the Jungle (AKA "Achu"). It was also the smallest set with a spider inside (the Jungle line was the first theme ever to include spiders). So it was a cheap way to get both. As you can see, I have lost the blue plume for Achu's spear. The idol has some useful pieces in it, like those two red "arcs". And here's a close view of the minifig: Pretty unique face, don't you think? I may be wrong, but I believe this head was never used again. Score: Design: 7/10 (I think this statue thing looks very good for the Jungle theme.) Playability: 2/10 (Umm... let's see, you can make Achu stomp on the spider?) Pieces: 7/10 (Not bad for such small set, and don't forget the spider and the plumes...)
  12. Theme: Castle Subtheme: Royal Knights Year released: 1995 Pieces: 74 Minifigs: 2 Price: NDA This was one of the 3 smallest sets out of the Royal Knights line. And as such, a truly outstanding one, for certain! It is supposed to be a sort of a guarded chamber with a golden goblet inside. The main feature of this set -- as the name suggests -- is the skeleton surprise... As you can see, the set contains quite a few useful grey pieces... I put the goblet outside so you could see it, but it's supposed to be INside. Here you have a (poor) close-up of the guard. Obviously, this wasn't the shield he's supposed to carry, but the original one was crushed by a fat girl a long time ago. The jutting out grey piece is what the skeleton is clinged onto. Speaking of which... Here's the main play feature of the set... Just pull out that lance, and... The skeleton will come at anyone trying to steal the goblet! It works very well. Score: Design: 9/10 (It looks very classy, don't you think?) Playability: 6/10 (You can scare the guard with the skeleton but not much else.) Pieces: 10/10! (For such a small set, you get a lot of castle building material. Including 4 castle wall pieces!) Again, sorry for the poor quality of the shots; I'm still learning... EDIT: First Royal Knights set review ever!
  13. There was also the Chinese dragon in Orient Expedition; kind of a gold-black mix.
  14. Or, at least, that's what I would name this little movie I've found at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nBhC_rzzwU...feature=channel
  15. Yes, yes, I was just going to do another review; I will have the pictures resized.
  16. Theme: Castle Subtheme: Fright Knights Year released: 1997 Pieces: 12 Minifigs: 1 Price: an equivalent of about $4 when it was new Not really much to say about this set... other than it was the cheapest way to get a dragon. You also get the Batlord, the broadsword (or whatever it's called) and a bat. Pretty neat. The only thing wrong in the above picture is that the Batlord's sceptre should be translucent red (I lost that piece). Doesn't that look just awesome? A dark lord of dungeons flying around on a black dragon... As somebody has pointed out recently, the Fright Knights make up for the best "evil" faction of Castle. By the way, the dragon's name is "Draco". And here's a bonus scene! VVOOOOOFFF!! Draco gets tired of having to constantly carry the Batlord around, and turns against his master! You can also the Buttlord's face here (I like it; it's pretty rare). Design: 1/10 (Nothing "designed" here, really.) Playability: 5/10 Pieces: 9/10 (As I said it's THE cheapest way to get a dragon. But I was WRONG!!) That's it. Sorry for the poor quality again...
  17. [Crappy_review] Theme: Castle Subtheme: Fright Knights Year released: 1997 Pieces: 56 Minifigs: 1 Price I got it for: an equivalent of about $8 http://www.1000steine.com/brickset/images/6037-1.jpg As you can see, it's a gondola for Willa the Witch transported by her dragon (she had a different dragon from the Batlord; his was black). Pretty ingenious an idea, if I do say so myself... Here's an overall view of the windship from a side: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Moers/Castle/100_0024.jpg I used a black dragon, 'cause I lost the green one a long time ago... There's actually a pretty stupid story to how I lost it, and since it's a part of this set, well: It was winter and one day it snowed so much, I decided take the dragon to my playground and play with it in the snow (yes, I know... I told you it's going to be stupid). I made a little cave out of snow for it, and put it inside. Then I left it there and went home... The next day almost all the snow was gone, and so was the dragon (someone stole it, obviously). But don't you think it actually looks better with the black dragon in place? Here's a close up of the gondola itself: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Moers/Castle/100_0023.jpg The witch also had a large broom (much better than the usual one from Town) but I lost it, too. Oh, and the magic wand looks so damaged because my cousin actually chew on it (Yes, I know... ). As you can see, the witch has a slope instead of legs. Here's a front view: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Moers/Castle/100_0025.jpg The twin halberds look very intimidating, don't you think? Overall, I think this windship makes for a pretty formidable enemy in a Castle war. Imagine it flying around, with the dragon toasting people around, and piercing with those halberds anyone foolish enough to dare come close to it (from the front). Design: 9/10 (Come on, a flying gondola carried by a dragon! Don't you dare tell me that's not original!) Playability: 6/10 (By itself, there's not much you can do with it, other than fly it around. But it has great playability when combined with other sets.) Pieces: 7/10 (Not really much pieces for a set of this size; the only really useful/rare ones are the dragon, the broom and the gondola.) [/Crappy_review]
  18. Same here!
  19. I know, I know... just arguing for fun.
  20. Or think of the war machines that Archimedes (supposedly) built... I can just see a small set called "Archimedes' Demise", or something like that: it would have Archimedes with a stick, drawing geometrical figures on sand (a small tan plate), and a Roman soldier with a sword, that's about to kill him!
  21. No no no, not like that; that's ridiculous! It's more like: - Hey, remember my birthday party 6 years ago? - Uhh, yeah? - That was awesome!
  22. Yeah... nowadays, there's probably more AFOLs than kids playing with LEGO...
  23. Maybe, but on a forum -- unlike in a real life conversation -- that person can very easily find out what you're talking about, just by reading the revived thread. Do you not agree with that?
