Heroica RPG - Quest #139: Around the World (West)
The Legonater replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
I fear the Old Gods because they represent a power we could never hope to control. We're playing with a fierce fire, Daneeka. Maybe, maybe, they will help us. Or maybe they will turn against us. Or maybe the new presence of Passion will draw this Darkness straight to us. We simply don't know.- 603 replies

Well you'll forgive for worrying about security when we're facing something that bested the Old Gods. Can these mages fight a threat on that level?- 603 replies

I'm here because I believe Guts can take the core of the Crescent Union - freedom from oppression - and lead it out of the influence of the houses. I respect the houses and am willing to work with them, but I'm not letting them take control of Eubric again. Guts has no bias in the terms of this feud, his motivations lie elsewhere. That's why I'm here, to see the freedom Eubric deserves forged through Guts.
-
...what on earth does that mean?
-
Guts has never demonstrated he would be against the people. The Ji Pei have for years feuded against the Bonapartes in a fight for control, completely ignoring the people. Have you been to the squalls of Eubric? It's a sad sight indeed. The founding houses can not be given back control of the city. It would start this whole mess again,
-
I'm actually a bit saddened the Crescent won't have a PC leader. It'd just bring a whole new level to things. Jun wouldn't even participate in discussion.

Heroica RPG - Quest #139: Around the World (West)

Same race, that's what I was afraid of. The Old Gods have returned, and something worse with them. You two... deserve an explanation. Arthur tells it better, but I'll do my best. The Court of Demons? Zane? That all started with Regret. He turned Zane into whatever he is now - and Zane was the sanest of the four. The Old Gods... I don't even know, they were three powerful, eldritch beings. They fed on desire. Lady Wren nearly destroyed Eubric outright in her quest to become the Master of Chaos. If you've ever heard me talk of killing a goddess, that was her. During her conquest, she killed the second, Passion. Regret was all that was left, but I suppose it was only in time they'd reincarnate like this. And if something is even stronger than them... well, the whole world is in trouble. It already drank from the Fountain, we absolutely can't let it get a hold of the other relics. Once again, we need to hurry out of here.- 603 replies

You said there were two of them? And they managed to beat Regret? ...this just got very bad indeed. We need to get moving, now.- 603 replies

Sure, but Rome was around for a few hundred years prior to Ceaser, and stuck around a few hundred years afterwords. It's hard to make a comparison for a country as young as the US.
-
Actually the Romans had a system where a dictator would be nominated to lead in times of peril, and then would give up the title once the job was done. It actually worked well, until Ceaser decided 'dictator for life' had a nice ring to it.
-
...Where's Doc? He'd vote Guts.
-
Congrats. Now you're only eight behind Jun Ji Pei. Your 'mighty roar' is going to fall apart, Whisperer. You can even the score. Put all your party's votes to Guts and you'll balance the score.
-
Because you're not winning. I respect your conviction, I really do. It's a marvel to witness. But going down with this ship like that does no one any favours. If Jun Ji Pei wins, everything Heroica has worked for goes up in smoke. For most the time I've been in Eubric, this is the chance I've been fighting for. A chance for true peace in Eubric, where the Houses aren't in feudal control. You may not win, but you can at least cast your vote to the next best thing.
-
There's another word for that. Pessimism. None of this is for certain, if it were there'd be no need to vote. The question is, would you rather risk the dynasty of the Jei Pei's, a family who will eventually bring us back to these ancient feuds, or the kingdom of Guts, who wants to bring Eubric to what it can be?
-
A king can live for himself. A monarchy can become a dynasty. A dynasty can become tyrannical. But this are not musts. Dictatorships are now viewed with an oppressive eye, but historically they worked well and the people benefited. Whisperer, I respect your cause, but this race is clearly between two men now. I urge you, don't waste this because of what might go wrong. Vote Guts because of what might go right.
-
Promising to not be king is the opposite of something tangible. Guts is promising to care for the people the same as you. That's more than Jun Ji Pei has offered - in fact, he's said nothing so far. While I respect the man, I fail to see why he's gathered such a following. He's made no promises for Eubric, at least none that I have heard. Furthermore, a prominent member of one of the houses winning puts us right back in the same scenario - Eubric trapped in a squabble between houses. I'd rather vote for the Whisperer than see that happen again.

This is vital, Matthias. Was there anything else? Anything at all? And you. I turn to Daneeka again. You knew about this, didn't you? Playing around with ancient artifacts - was this the plan all along?- 603 replies

Oh, Hel I whip around to Daneeka. Your boss and I are going to have a very long conversation when we meet back up. Matthias! I charge after the gnome, unscrewing a potion. I pour the drink on him, trying to wake and hopefully heal him.- 603 replies
