Recently I decided to try adding PF driving and steering to set 8110 Unimog U400. Below are some photos and a video of the end result. Parts used are: 1 x PF L motor 1 x PF servo motor 1 x PF IR receiver V2 1 x 8-tooth gear (Used in drive line for L motor to gear down) 1 x 24-tooth gear (Used in drive line for L motor to gear down) 1 x 7L beam A small number of other pieces such as pins, axle pins and some small 3L and 5L beams to mount the engines. The L motor for driving has been mounted in place of the fake 4 cylinder engine, the servo motor for steering has been mounted at the rear of the centre control area, just in front of the rear diff. When adding the PF system I wanted to keep the original look of the set as much as possible, except for the PF IR receiver on back of the cabin it looks "stock". Photos and a video are on my blog: http://paulstechnic.blogspot.com.au/p/set-8110-unimog-u400.html

Cutting LEGO Pieces - Still "Pure"
Paul B Technic replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for the replies, much along the same lines as what I was thinking. -
Today while I was doing a mod to an official LEGO set (Adding PF drive and steering to 8110) I needed a 4.5L axle, now I don't have any of these and I don't even know if they exist so I got a 5L axle and cut it to the right length. Is using modified pieces still considered "pure" LEGO or is that heading in the direction of custom pieces? Paul

Yesterday I finished building this set as the A model and I posted my review: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86526 I started looking at some videos of the B model and that looks really bad to me, messy in a word. Has anybody considered a possible C model of this set, I am very tempted to do something like that with it. Paul

I NEVER eat or drink near my LEGO. If I need to I get up and go to the kitchen, good to move the legs too.

It has always been work or women which has kept me away from the LEGO hobby. I am glad I am now able to devote more time to the LEGO hobby.

That looks very cool, thanks for sharing it with us. -
http://paulstechnic.blogspot.com.au/p/set-42005-review-and-b-models.html On a recent trip away I was lucky enough to spot the new 2H2013 LEGO Technic monster truck set 42005 for sale. This was a set I had spotted online and thought it would look good in my collection. Given the fairly low price of $59 I decided to purchase two of this set, one to be built as the A model and the second to be used for parts. As I was away when I purchased this set I took the opportunity to build the A model in my hotel room, this took me about 1.5 hours and was a fairly easy build, no really complex or hard steps and the end result looks good. The monster truck A model features 4 wheel hand of god (HOG) steering and working suspension, I have tried dropping this set from heights up to 1.5 metres and it has survived this treatment with no problems. The size of the wheels on this set seem quite large at first but they work well with this set and fit the look of the monster truck perfectly. Overall I am really happy with the look of this set and the Technic functions seem to work well. The only area I could see for improvement with this set would be maybe adding another function such as opening doors or a winch. After building the A I had a look at the building guide for the B model, this looked like a good set and I was tempted to build it then and there. On the drive home the next day I decided to give the B model a try, if I didn’t like it I could always return to my original plan of using this second copy for parts. Opening my second copy of 42005 and sorting the parts while sitting on the living room floor I sorted the parts in to a number of containers to assist with the building process. Again as with the A model the B model was a fairly quick build at just under 1.5 hours and it was fairly simple, no complex or confusing steps in the building guide at all. The end result is a off road buggy which features front wheel hand of god (HOG) steering and working suspension on the rear axle, this means that two of the shock absorbers are not needed for the B model, this also means that it does not survive the drop test as well as the A model. When dropped from a height above about 30 cm the B model has a habit of flipping over on to its roof. I personally prefer the actual look of the B model above the A model where as the functions of the A model are better. One thing that did worry me was that when I was getting towards the end of the building guide for the B model I still had a large number of parts left over, I went back and made sure that I had not missed any steps. Once the B model was finished I had about 40 pieces left over, some of these were common pins and brushes were as others were two shock absorbers and some of the complex drive and steering parts. Overall I am very glad I built the B model and I think I will be leaving both the A and B models built and on display, I may even buy another copy of this set just for parts. Welcome to the forum, thanks for sharing this. I really like what you have done with this and how good it looks, I also agree about the point above on removing the fuel tanks from the trailer, they just look a little out of place.

Yes that is the one. As I said if the admins can't tell us then that is that and nothing we can say or do will change that.

Thanks for the reply. I am not interested in discussing what they did or why they were banned but simply knowing why a member with over 5000 posts was banned when I can see nothing on here which would suggest any wrong doing by them. If it was something they did behind the scenes then that is fine. The last posts from them on here don't show any wrong doing on their part.

I have been away from the forum for the past 6 weeks or so, in that time a fairly active (5000+ post) member of the sub-forum I am a most active in has been banned. Is it possible to find out why they were banned for? I never knew that they did anything wrong and if they were banned for doing something it would be good to know so myself and others do not do the same thing. Paul

You mean that you have time to do something other than LEGO?

Lego 'addicts' and their friends ... How much time/$$
Paul B Technic replied to DrJB's topic in Community
Well these are fairly open ended type questions so a bit hard to really say as it various a lot. 1. What do you class as spending on LEGO? Is this just physical building or also designing, research, time on forums and so on? Physical building for me varies a lot, I might spend 8+ hours one day and then not do any for a week or more. I do however regularly check forums and websites daily. 2. Well this year I have purchased about 25 sets, I only have 1 of them left at the moment after the great sell off I had a couple of months ago. -
Glad to hear the "move" went well and your collection arrived safely :)
