Since the upcoming Modular Police Station won't come with a car, I've decided to build one myself : It's inspired by 40's American Police cars, and I did my best to make it look like the official sets so it won't look out of place in a Modular Street. The doors can open, and the roof and rear windscreen can be easily removed to access the interior, where there's room for two minifigs. Ideally it would be a police officer and the terrible Donut Thief buf of course I don't have them yet, so I used the minifigs from 40409 Hot Rod instead. What about Bright Light Orange like 42099 ? Personally I'd love that. Anyways, I'm looking forward to see these sets. Given their rumoured price range, they should be huge. Hopefully they'll be worth it functions-wise...

It's simply used to lock the box. Part 42193 could work as well, but with the pin hole this part uses more space, and maybe it wasn't possible to use it anyway depending on how the box halves are designed.

There's no middle axle hole :

Good luck for locking the box if you use two 1x2 thin beams and a bushing.

What if next year's Speed Champions sets will also be Fast and Furious sets ? When 42111 was announced they said it was the first LEGO set inspired by the high-octane, global blockbuster franchise. That implies more sets are planned, and instead of creating a new F&F theme they could sell minifig-scaled cars from the movies, with minifigs of the characters, as part of the Speed Champions line. That could also explain the delay ; they may want to release the sets close to the release of the next movie, which should be next April.

Because we're AFOLs who've seen tens and tens of sets and MOCs. It's not the case for every consumer out there. I mean, I like when Technic sets have functions, especially manual ones, but I don't think it's a requirement (Technic is just a building system) and I can understand Lego can't reasonably do only sets packed with a lots of functions. But I have to admit that given the price they're asking for, even a simple gearbox would have been nice.

When it comes to this windscreen, it has always been printed on the top only, and when decorations on the side were needed (here), Lego used stickers. On the Ferrari, the sides of the windscreen aren't visible, so I doubt stickers will be required. Anyways, I quite like the set. Of course I wish it were more interesting from a technical point of view, but Lego currently sells three cars with a working gearbox, as well as a motorbike, so I don't mind seeing something a bit different.

To me it seems to be the same plastic. Indeed,and the problem is that it's maybe too smooth, which is why this happens :

I've recently bought 42082 and it came with the new style of changeover catch. I didn't notice it until the boom was attached and I decided to try the functions : the changeover catch that controls the boom functions didn't slide very well on the axle. I don't know if it's because it only has two teeth or if the hole is slightly bigger, but when pushed sideways, the catch slightly rotates and gets stuck on its axle. If you put it on a vertical axle (with a few parts attached to it to simulate the pressure of the finger and the lever arm), the older changeover catch slides smoothly, but the movement of the newer version is jerky, and it can even get stuck.

So far Creator Expert has only been about system sets and I assume it will remain that way. I think it's simpler for Lego to keep all of their sets made of Technic pieces in the Technic line. It's because Technic is a lot different from system bricks for someone who doesn't know about it, so it's a good way for Lego to clearly tell the consumer they'll get Technic pieces and not a traditional system set. Oh I completely agree with that. But even if there were called Model Team, they would still be Technic cars. Unless I didn't understand correctly what you meant and you rather suggested that they'd stop doing simpler Technic cars and make them with system pieces instead ? As I said in the second part of my message, Lego need those simple sets as a way to get people who aren't familiar with the Technic system to discover it and eventually buy more similar sets. If all the sets were really complex, sure it would please longtime, hard-core fans, but it might drive potential new customers away. The Aston Martin DB5 10262 is the example to prove that you can't always combine functions with a good-looking model. The Mustang works well because its shapes can be faithfully recreated with Lego. Modern supercars have complex shapes that are much more difficult to do at a smaller scale and with system pieces. That's why Speed Champions heavily relies on stickers, although this year's increase in width allows more brick-built details. Exactly. PS : We're going off topic, I'm sorry for that. I think it's an interesting subject, but we're here to talk about the 2021 Technic sets after all, so maybe @Jim will want to split the thread.

It's rumoured to have 1677 pieces for 180€, and sets with a similar amount of parts are either cheaper or come with PF / C+ that bump the price. Or perhaps the Ferrari license is really expensive ? Or the price or the parts count is wrong. Merge what with the Creator Expert line ? I see the subject being brought up frequently, people asking to sell the simpler Technic sets as part of a different theme because they can't stand sets with less functionality, and I don't understand that. These simpler sets are sold under the Technic name because they're made with Technic elements, it's that simple, even if they're not as technically complex as some would wish. Now, even if it's very unlikely because there's only so much sets they can release each year, I'd love to see more Creator Expert-styled cars, and it would be even better if they had some simple functions, but I don't think it would mean the Technic line would focus more on more complex sets and do without the more simple ones. The Ferrari will have 500 more pieces than the 42000, so a gearbox is still possible. Also, given the price, the set could have motorized functions (with a dumb battery box), like 8070 ?

Oh, that's a good idea. The last one is from 2013 (2014 if you count 42026), so it's been quite a while. I rather think either the parts count or the price is wrong.

Do the suspensions still work with these mods ?

Printing can be erased anyway, so it's not too much of an issue.

Well, to be honest I didn't like the idea of those contests, mainly because I felt it was better to leave Bionicle alone. But we're seeing some interesting entries that I feel fit well in the G1 universe and that I wouldn't mind seeing getting canonized, like entries n°9 in the poll 9, n°1 in the poll 10, and n°1 and 2 in the poll 11. I don't think we'll get as good entries for Artakha, I don't see how he can be accurately represented in Lego form.

Apparently the changeover catch has been updated. The main difference is at the cross axle. The tip seems rounder, but that might be due to the angle of the render. It should be in the Sián, so people who have it could make a more accurate comparison between both versions.

I saw it earlier on Flickr. It's a great model. My favourite thing is the interior and the "modularity" of the build, but I also really like the layout, with the inclusion of two big rocks, and the blend of wood and stone for the castle. It makes the model more interesting, and gives a story to the castle. It's as if they've built the wooden areas on top of the rocks first, and then built fortifications in front of them.
