  1. I know it's not a minifig, but every pirate theme needs treasure, right ?
  2. Hey, thanks for the great idea !!
  3. I saw this llittle ship in the Lego store and just had to try to pirate-ify it. Will probably replace the plastic sail asap with that cloth sail from that old raft set. The aim of all my MODs is - to make the set in line with pirate sets of the original pirate lines - to dejuniorise them if I can - to try to expand the Pirates universe (new factions, new ideas) (bigger on Flickr - http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ ) Wouldn't a whole ghost ship, ghost port etc line be great ???? Please criticize and comment :)
  4. Hey Boomchil, thanks for that great review, damn I love those entry level sets of piratey paradisey goodness. I was wondering - could you maybe scan in those flyers you have? The dioramas are beautiful and there aren't any good enough resolution ones on the internet. Would love to see it in detail !!
  5. I don't understand why Lego is doing this when it has a whole dept devoted to this. It is as if it wants us to have the impression we have some involvement in the company.. I think I would just feel used.
  6. 1366 x 768 (widescreen) Broadband, don't know the speed but pretty fast :) Chrome
  7. Glad you like it guys, glad to have inspired you ! Next project will be to add an underwater section, with seethrough baseplates and such !
  8. [pid][/pid]222A Hey guys, wanted to show you my recent MOD. It is made from several sets which separate into three parts as can be seen below. I tried to maintain the original structures of the original sets, just 'pimping' them up with Pirate gear !! Would love your opinions on Modding other Lego sets and integrating them into the Pirate theme !! 1. Modified Paradisa Dolphin Point completed at the top with parts from the Forest Cabin 2. Parts from Sabre Island and Imperial trading post to make this little fort. The tower is angled using the Pythagoras theorem technique. The two connect (32x32 + 32x32) to look like this: 3. Parts from Forbidden Island (the main body), Smugglers' Shanty and the Black Pearl (the hull) make this beautiful shipwreck island. ] 4. All three connect to make this gigantic island hideout !! (32x32 + 32x32) make the one half and (32x32) + (4x(16x16) Back and Front Top View Hope you enjoy. I know it looks a little bit.. childish .. and has no snotting or whatever, but I don't want it to look 'professional' :) Comments appreciated !
  9. For me this is difficult to answer. With regards to: Quality of design - both Classic and POTC quality is amazing, not forgetting there's over 20 years time difference. I love all of the ships in the line and, while QAR is spectacularly detailed (in my opinion, it's the most beautiful of all the ships), the BSB/SES will always be some of the best sets Lego has ever designed. Playability - the classic Pirates win for me. The sets were better designed for this. But AFOLs don't care about this. (Do they?) Detail - POTC wins with detail, with the introduction of dozens of new piratey elements. However, the classic sets did well with the more limited number of elements and used them quite creatively. Minifigures - The classic figures now look so painfully simple compared to POTC. This doesn't make them worse though, in my opinion. With regards to yellow v flesh - In my Lego world, all living figures are yellow. Therefore, as flesh appears a paler version of Lego-yellow, all the flesh coloured figures are "simply" reawoken ghosts. This is how I integrate them into the classic Pirates world. (My QAR is kitted out with lots of glow in the dark plasma pieces to give it the impression it's travelled forward in time!) Compatibility - I have recently modified Forbidden Island by adding a black BB hull to complete the wreckage. The new pieces are very welcome and completely complimentary.
  10. Hey guys, I recently acquired the Armada flagship on eBay, I've come up with some modifications to the original ship, I'd like to hear your comments on my modifications - Lots of people seemed to criticize the colour scheme, too many colours, well I've decided to ignore that and add even more colours - purple and lime green highlights. Do you think it works or not? Also modified that weird thing at the front of the ship to a phoenix, and added some traditional functionalities (moving rudder). Hope you like it!
  11. 2) The ski jump in Holmenkollen in Oslo (Sleepyhead) Entry (Build by Cecilie) - 2 points 7) Art Deco (Flamenco Dancer) Entry (Build by lisqr) - 1 point
  12. 31 - Sleepyhead Entry (Build by watersnap) - 3 points
  13. Imagine a santa claus with a real hat.. not a pirate hat ... but do you think this would be a dangerous strategy for Lego to undertake? Crossing on religious issues, parent issues ... These are my suggestions for a Christmas Series: Santa Claus - with sack and a specially molded hat.. Mrs. Claus Elf Angel Snowman - with broom and a carrot nose Carol singer - with book Scrooge - with money Grinch Dad - with present Mum - with present Boy in pyjamas (with christmas cracker) Girl in pyjamas (with party hat and toy) Postman - with letters and parcels Shop keeper - selling baubles? Woodcutter - with trophy-figure printed as an angel Snow sweeper - with shovel (the last 4 would be the fillers....)
  14. Is that guy playing a saxophone or kissing a very yellow chicken? ;)
  15. For me, it was this baby: 6540 Pier Police It was my first set ever, actually. I loved the car, at that time I lived in PL and our real police ran about in crappy little cars just like that! I always wanted to extend the station with a jail and a helipad, and to link it to the other port sets they had, but.. well, I discovered Pirates and Castle instead ;)
  16. I personally wouldn't recommend that! The pieces are very small and I bet some could fall through the drum, though I guess if the pillow is zipped up there shouldn't be any problem... I used to wash the lego with the shower, it worked very well. I would put the lego in a bowl, so none of it could accidentally fall down the plughole!
  17. Great! make sure you take us some pictures some time in the future to show off how it's going ;) and a little word of practical advice. From my experience, Lego gets covered in dust very quickly if it's not being played with constantly. And it is very difficult to get rid of the dust because of the studs, etc. So when it's not being played with, i suggest you find a way to cover the scene to protect it, especially if it's not goign to be touched for a long time.
  18. Bricklink is an international marketplace. So you can buy anything from anywhere, though it's probably best to buy from EU or from Netherland sellers. On the links I sent you, under each item is a link with "Items for Sale" with colour boxes underneath - the colour boxes describe the main colour of the item. Click one to see the prices and stores that sell them. It's quite complicated to explain but quite easy to understand after a bit of experimenting. You can search stores by country and so on as well, here: http://www.bricklink.com/searchAdvanced.asp For the beginning though I'm sure ebay will have most things you would ever need. Normally, AFOL builders shop on Bricklink to buy specific rare parts or massive quantities of parts. So it might be great if you decide you need to buy 20 road plates, but it might be not that good if you only want two or three, which you can buy new from a shop.
  19. I would always put the roads next to other baseplates, never on top. Unlike normal lego plates, it is not possible to stick baseplates on top of each other, there is no mechanism to actually hold one on top of another. So always next to each other :) With regards to the baseplates, the prices you mentioned are pretty standard for the baseplates. As mentioned before, you might be able to get cheaper, used, baseplates on Bricklink, which is an amazing resale/secondhand online market. I've used it many times and loved it! On bricklink, you can probably find some really good older baseplates, which have very specific printings, which might be something fun to add on for the future - such as airport runways, spaceship landing docks, island printings, rivers, etc, have a look! For rivers etc: http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?pg=2&itemType=P&catString=2 For roads and runways: http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?itemType=P&catString=130 I remember, when I was little, it was my dream to have a massive city with a sea on one side (for docks and things like that) and a mountainous area with a gushing river.. with Lego, oh, there are SO many possibilities!
  20. Skalldyr! That is so simple, but so amazing!
  21. Hehe, here is mine.. At the Ministry of Death, they're getting ready for another hallowe'en bash. The Skull Minister is most displeased with what he's being told by his skulletary. "What? I've dressed up for the wrong season AGAIN?"
  22. 10, 15, 22, All one point each, 10 - a great and funny idea that didn't need many bricks. 15, I love the way you made those cakes, it makes me hungry! 22, the most inventive use of those nasty technic bars! Love it!
  23. Thank you noname, I completely agree with you. I just updated my entry before reading your post :) WhiteFang, I have retaken the photos with a more consistent lighting. Are they okay now? I've removed the attachment entirely and both photos (no need for a third one) are on Flickr.
  24. Problems with my flash. I think all three are still quite okay though nevertheless?
