They heard about the upcoming release of WhiteHexagon and panicked

thanks for the links, maybe these gold bars will be my first brick link purchase! :) Caboose - I'd never heard that word before today. My best guess was some kind of mail truck. But now that you describe it I can understand why there was a fireplace in there

Well over the weekend I was back home visiting the parents. At some time the topic of my ever growing LEGO village MOC came up, probably because I'd ordered castle 10193 for delivery while I was there (A huge saving in GBP compared to the CHF price!). Anyway, my farther mentioned a heap of LEGO he'd bought but never got around to building. And so began my first adventures in 9V land... I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the actual train designs, my favourite builds were a small red carriage 10014 'my own train' although it didn't list on the box just what the carriage was meant to be, and the black steam engine - not sure of part number. As for the track, well that took me back to my younger days when I had the much older center metal rail system. Although in terms of sophistication it's a poor replacement. I hadn't realised it was quite so basic, with manual points and no lights/signals. Still I had lots of fun laying the track although on my first attempt I managed to ignore the instructions and had some complex crossover shorting the rails at some point. I've attached the final result just because I had so much fun building it :) But it's made my mind up to wait, however long it takes, for LEGO to get back to something a little more advanced in terms of control system. Peter PS Anyone know the part number of the 2x1 gold plates used for gold bars? I'd sure like a few of them in my village :)

I agree, more base plates would even encourage more brick buying. Especially town based plates :) And on the same subject I hope they bring back green road plates and sell straight plates as a separate piece! The number of corners and crossroads in my town is driving me mad hehe! So how about a park plate, or park with pond, or roundabout with building area in middle, or green plate with drive way, or straight road with black and white pedestrian crossing, etc. I'm sure we could think of a hundred 'nice to have' base plates. Maybe they need a custom base plate designer for factory. Upload a bitmap, select with studs are raised/flat and then wait 1 week for the ultimate base plate But a few plates bigger plates in current sets would be a good start.

So I finally made it down to Basel at the weekend. The show is 17.60CHF for entry (discount with rail card) and worth not a penny of it :( Actually that's may be a little harsh. The 50 years of barbie was quite interesting! but the show should have been called '50 years of barbie and a few LEGO models that you bought last year'. Seriously the LEGO side of the show was really really poor. For sure I was under the false impression that I was going to see 50 years of LEGO which already had my expectations too high, but there was hardly any LEGO there at all. Some credit to the 1000steine crew for populating 50% of the boxes with fan MOC's. But the rest were mostly a few sets from the last couple of years like cafe corner, bat mobile, taj mehal, beatle and iffle tower. I took some photos to share, but really you are not missing anything if I don't post them. So save your money and browse brick shelf for 20mins instead is my advice. Cheers Peter

nice spacious layout, I can see the dog is just faking sleep in the background waiting to chew on some minifigs

Lego announces line of digital cameras, PMPs, etc.
WhiteHexagon replied to WhiteHexagon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
sure, why not a poll for this. I wonder if the camera produces prints with colour consistency issues... -
They'd do better concentrating on their core business imo, but hey, for anyone interested: http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/13/lego-an...-for-your-teen/ Peter Edited by Imperialshadows: Hope you don't mind, but I added a poll to this. I can already tell that it will quickly evolve into a "Should LEGO be making things like this" topic (ice tray, anyone?), so I'm just going to make sure it's relevant as one.

Great Idea!! and TLC already has some region specific sets, so why not target the UK with such a range! And lets face it, us Brits pay a decent margin on LEGO to make it worth thier while!
-
Just got back from COOP and noticed they had a few sets 50%, I admit to buying 7586, A belville set! I never thought I would, but at that price there are still some nice bricks in there! They also had a large bionicle set, and a Ferrari set listed that was sold out.

You're a real organiser I can see So when does the sorting stop, and the building begin? Do you have a rough idea of what you are going to build? It sounds like you are trying to use original sets only? or is there another reason for all the sorting?

Just saw an advert for this show at the local railway station, might be of interest to any Swiss on here. Not got any more details yet, think it was starting the 16th Jan and running for a few weeks at least. Anyway I think I'm gonna head down there and take a look, they even have LEGO to keep the missus occupied

how about using them for runway landing lights? or BSG style launch tube for some star fighters? but I think the xmas tree is the best idea so far :)

Princess Quest Chapter VIII: Dungeon & Dragon
WhiteHexagon replied to Sandy's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
I should browse the other EB channels a bit more, I can't believe I've been missing this story for so long, but at least I got to read them all in a single sitting, well apart from the final installment... Anyway congrats to you Sandy for keeping me entertained for the last hour or so, really nice work with the comic, and I look forward to the final instalment :) -
Where do you buy your lego from?
WhiteHexagon replied to pr0visorak's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Agreed! Although discount LEGO is hard to find here in Switzerland, so mostly I buy from S@H or occasionally Amazon depending on the exchange rates into EUR. In fact the only set I bought from a store here was a large batmobile that had a huge markdown due to a damaged box. Oh and the madatory advent calandar, Castle of course... any poll for that? :) -
If anyone is stressed about missing this, don't be. I managed 10 mins of watching some sweaty feet spoiling some kids gifts and some other strange features, but I had to switch off at that point, it was that bad. Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate it haha.

To me : Limited Edition - limited in production quantity Exclusive - limited by location or store maybe in other countries these terms are used differently, but I can imagine the confussion if something is claimed to be limited and still selling two years later. strange. Peter

cool, very inspirational. Makes me want to go out and buy a camera! I've seen plenty of brick movies before, but never really thought it was that easy to get into, and it's nice seeing your learning curve and fast progression. You seem to have a natural talent though because even your first 7s shot seemed to have a good amount of story line! well done!

shame the Shop@Home 10% discount is USA and Canada only Apple seems to be the only retailer taking the black friday thing international?

Keeping LEGO bricks happy...
WhiteHexagon replied to WhiteHexagon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
wow, thanks for the detailed response Deepwoods, and welcome to the site! I think most of my bricks fall outside the problem list, so that's hopeful at least. Can I ask if the bricks you had stored were loose or actually assembled. I'm thinking that might make a difference with the extra stress on the bricks. Cheers Peter -
I'm not sure I agree with point 1, doesn't the introduction of new brick types, minifigures and story line into sets add to the creativity aspect? When you compare other toys on the market, LEGO isn't doing too bad a job. The rock monster set you linked does raise some concerns, although maybe the children are going to sympathize with the rock monsters? I wonder how detailed these sets get play tested in front of child physcologists. At any rate I think the problem is not with LEGO, but with the way children develop these days. When I was a child I was happy with a bucket of simple bricks for hours on end (I still am really), and even with identicle minifigs I'd still create good vs bad scenarios. These days I get the impression children require much more stimulation to keep them interested and normally the TV or other electronic devices are going to win. Still, an interesting post :)

Keeping LEGO bricks happy...

A couple of minifigs have been held in ice-olation in my freezer for the last week or so! don't worry, they were only fleshies, and actually have been providing a good supply of brick shapped ice cubes They don't seem any worse for their adventure, although they keep giving me cold looks. Maybe I'll build a small winter scene for them with an igloo to live in hehe
