  1. Okay, so after reading about everyone's experience with parts it seems only SW minifigs are restricted? Makes sense. SW MFs usually ebay for $10 or more. Apart from licensing issues, I think it is also to curb unscrupulous people from taking advantage of that service.
  2. I looked up peeron and it was listed as 1366 parts and *drum roll* $100. WOW. How did it end up as EUR150 with EUR trading higher than US$? It seems cheap at $100. >:-) thanks yoda! great review!
  3. thanks yoda. i'll definitely think about it. maybe it will be a "daddy only" set. $100 is probably decent. and if what you said is true maybe i'll get a few to sell on ebay. >:-) um, what's the parts count? it's not shown on the box for some reason. hmm...
  4. Ah, thanks. Is it okay to let them dry in the sunlight? I don't mean out in the open sun where it's hot and they may melt, but by the window exposed to sunlight but cool enough not to decompose? I was hoping some of that UV, IR light might help remove other impurities. Or is that a bad idea as the color may fade? Also why do people advertize legos as "pet-free"? Is it because pets will scratch legos or legos will have "pet-smell"? i don't mind scratches but i hate smelly legos. do you get rid of the smell using the same technique as well?
  5. My son likes to play with sets. The B-wing, A-wing and tie interceptor came apart after some heavy playing. If the SD is as fragile as you said, I might not get it. EUR150 may translate to US$180. that's slightly too expensive for me. :P
  6. recently i won some ebay auctions without checking first if they were smoke-free...so no surprise when i got it i was shock to smell that heavy stench when i open the box. i was utterly appalled. i am not sure what i can do to get rid of the smell. can any EBers with the experience help?
  7. well, it was signed joseph caesar SD. i wonder what that means.
  8. So far all I own are the exoforce mechs. After a week sitting there as the original models, I took them apart and make the combo. Then about 2 weeks later I took them apart and make the alternatives. Then I moc them (add hands, arms, armor, etc). Just won a t-1 typhoon from ebay. Should be interesting to see how long the copter last. :P
  9. AWESOME!... i was so right. remember i said white lightning is going to be piloted by hayato and it will be a flying mech with the insignia A.03? holy cow batman...how right was that? 3/3. 4/4 actually since i said bridge walker is the robot's ground mech. oh well... in case you were wondering what the japanese words on the right foot said, it said white lightning. edit: it's actually a full sized mech vs a gigantic sized mech.
  10. really? i never noticed that so i usually open all bags and find the parts as i go along.
  11. Haha, exo.. outside.. That's funny. But I think the name came from EXO-skeletal suits (meaning hard protective exterior armor) + FORCE.
  12. I think the Viking ship/boat looks medieval. Pirates' ships look too high tech for the medieval era.
  13. this may not come as a surprise to many of you. i have noticed that for non star wars sets that are currently selling in the stores, you can usually get good deals out of ebay. for sets that cost more than $50, i have noticed you can get from ebay for 30-50% discount even after shipping compared to retail prices. for eg, that dino copter set you mentioned sell for $45 (including shipping) recently. that's 36% cheaper than retail.
  14. Sorry, I myself can't understand what the fuss is about SB sets. Nothing special. I'll pass on this.
  15. Am I reading this right? Any star wars set they won't send you replacement parts?
  16. I agree the grand titan's arms are too small, short and flimsy. On the other hand, I don
  17. I would get these to make smaller exosuits. Probably using the gamut as base model and extending from there. Hopefully they will turn out like miniturized versions of the big mechs. ack - edited because you answered right before i posted.
  18. Holy cow that is nice! At first I thought avatar was too kiddy and since I am over 30, I have no need for such set. Then I saw the custom armor, and the minion's face. That is superb. The use of the new tan tone is nice too. I can see aang and uncle being used in a moc as fighting monks (bare handed or with staff). The fire minion is useful in a lot of mocs as either droid, cyborg, etc. it's good in many themes, including fantasy, futuristic. I think I am going to have a closer look at the line.
  19. Let's view this objectively. 1. they gave out patrick and not spongebob, who is the main char, to lower the incentive to pilfer. 2. they gave out to respected members (or founders) of Lego fan clubs. There is little incentive for fan club founders to hog items because they are given exclusive interviews, sneak peeks, and other more valuable incentives than a patrick mf. 3. even if a member decided to keep patrick, once the SB line is out, he/she can easily get a set to replace the patrick. This is the primary reason I believe TLG sent out patrick and not SB. E.g., if I wanted blacksuit batman and already got the blacksuit batman from Lego, would I even want to buy the set? If I got two-face, I would still need to get blacksuit batman because he is the main character. 4. the respected members would only pass patrick to someone they trust. If the member can trust them not to keep patrick, the likelihood of the recipient keeping patrick is low (ie why hand over to someone else if you can keep it yourself? Unless the person can be trusted to continue the chain.) so, what's the conclusion? the patrick chain is going to continue for a good while (maybe a year or two) generating good publicity and eventually wound up in a high risk individual who will decided to keep it for himself/herself. in the meantime TLG would have gotten free advertising for little to no cost (what's $2 per MF eh?).
  20. I like all the minifigs from this line. They look like some crack commando team. Should be fun to build an army with. I also like the helmet without the visor. The other helmet is your standard lego helmet and doesn't look military tbh. The hummer and the copter are well designed but are bigger than minifig scale. The MF looks like a kid sitting in his daddy's SUV. The buggies and the tank I don't quite fancy. The downside of getting these sets are definitely the dinosaurs. Just what are you going to do with these bulky non-lego-looking bits of plastic? I can't keep giving them to babies. No one will buy them from ebay or from a garage sale. If possible I like to get lots and lots of the minifigs, build lots of my own jeeps and tanks and have my own mini war scene (like from the pc game, commando). Some SW imperial officers with standard hat or with the grey/brown x-wing helmets would look like german soldiers/officers. This could have been a really popular line but a few mistakes were made: 1. vehicle bigger than minifig scale. 2. large bit of plastic that cannot be decomposed into useful parts. 3. tank please, not an open top vehicle that rolls on threads. i would definitely buy them but only at a huge discounted sale and only for the minifigs. (another thing i don't get is why no personal weapon.) the clone troopers have blasters but these have nothing? easy enough to fix with a few parts from bricklink but definitely odd...
  21. ack! sorry, this old man can't remember anything correctly now. :(
  22. I'm surprised it was out 1 May. I thought it was scheduled for 1 June? Maybe that means UK batman will be out a month earlier too on 1 July? To be honest I would prefer it being released later coz then you get to see how popular it is in other countries. Unpopular sets = no rush to get it prior to sale. Popular sets = buy buy buy before it sold out. I got back into collecting legos from march of this year so I missed a lot of good sets that are no longer available in the US like 7264 imperial inspection. It's still selling in the UK. :( ebayers are already selling this set at some ridiculous price.
  23. After being outbidded on ebay for some cheap KK or dino sets I got really pissed off and went out and bought an A-wing to cheer myself up. Sigh..it's not much, still wish I could have gotten vladek's fortress with the 8 minifigs for $50 or that dino copter for $40.
  24. oh. where are you? the lego store i went to was in NJ. it had the highway hauler, gear grinder, submarine, building bonanza. but i guess each store is different. *wacko*
  25. hmm, i thought this was a afol forum. which means everyone can afford to buy any set they want. *wub* if only your spouse/partner/lover(s) do(es) not object. 8-|
