Nice, though I do not have the money to try that out... Atleast in the Rapman page they have pictures of LEGO-like brick...

PAB selection plea for the classic smiley (Head #001)
Scorpion replied to madoka's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I too offer my plea for it's return. -
A little OT, but... did you know that in the late 19th century, it was the other way around? Pink was for boys and blue was for girls?
-
That's what I thought too. I really hope they would've gone the Classic Space Route of different-coloured suits, but no dice...
-
In the early 90's it was not uncommon to have a City Space theme with a launchpad and a shuttle running alongside a space theme in the same year...
-
I only hope they go the classic space route and make space suits in various colours! After all, light blue is soooo intimidating...

Collectible Minifigs: What's your favorite new part mold?
Scorpion replied to Rick's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Spartan helmet, Spartan shield and the Mime's beret. Now that I would like to see in regular lego sets! -
Did anyone save the pics? I got there too late... :s
-
Has anyone noticed that the new shuttle's engines seem to be made of a new part? It seems like the classic semi-conical windshield, only with clip bars. Doesn't it seem odd that they should re-tool an existing part that was re-tooled just this year?

C'mon! You gotta admit ninjas fighting undead Nazi skeletons is pretty awesome...

AWESOME MOC, AllSeeingGuy!!!!! I commend your for your patience and your diligence!!! You win a free Internets! Only this picture made me LOL: I can see the gunner on that turret: "What kind of moron designed a battleship with goddamned towers in front of the gun turrets?!?" :p

Aquanauts and Aquasharks. Not only were they the first, but they had that 80's sci-fi movie (The Abyss, I'm looking at you!) thing going that I love! Plus, nothing beats the Aquasharks' flagship (flagsub?) set. I still have it in my bedroom. I've assembled it in 1997 and I never took it apart.

A most essential point: EVERY SLOPE AND WEDGE MUST HAVE A NORMAL AND AN INVERTED VERSION. My apologies, Bonaparte, if that isn't framed adequately, but I just wanted to get this point across.

[Software] LDD Manager
Scorpion replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
When is that, then? The Coming of LDD4, that is. And is there a possibility of exporting the bricklist as a file? Does the "copy to Excel" button also work on similar programs? (Namely those in OpenOffice?) Thanks for your work, Superkalle! -

Here's the link to a .zip file containing several 3D models of some of my sugested parts (you need Solidworks 2010 or better to access these files): http://rapidshare.com/files/444393238/LEGO_Parts_Survey_3D_Models__Solidworks2010__by_Scorpion.zip Enjoy! Part 1: - Part name: Slope 45 4x4 Double - Part description: This, only 4-wide. Perhaps with a cutout, like this? - Part usage: Excellent part for building airplanes, helicopters, spacecraft, high-speed trains. Very good for roofs and the cutout would make it more minifig-friendly. Part 2: - Part name: Slope, Inverted 18 4x2 - Part description: This, inverted. - Part usage: Complimentary piece to Slope 18 4x2, usefull for planes, spaceships and wherever you used a Slope 18 4x2 on the top and you want a symmetrical bottom! Part 3: - Part name: Wedge 4x2 Sloped Inward Left/Right - Part description: This. - Part usage: Like Wedge Sloped 4x2 facilitates the transition from a straight brick to an outward slope 45 brick, the Wedge 4x2 Sloped Inward would facilitate the reverse transition. Very useful for airplanes, helicopters, spaceships, submarines, more exotic designs, etc... Part 4: - Part name: Wedge Inverted 4x2 Sloped Inward Left/Right - Part description: This, inverted. - Part usage: Mainly the underside of boats, airplanes, spaceships, submarines, making the transition from a straight brick to an inward slope 45 inverted. Part 5: - Part name: Wedge Inverted 4x2 Sloped Left/Right - Part description: This, inverted. - Part usage: Mainly the underside of boats, airplanes, spaceships, submarines, making the transition from an outward slope 45 inverted to a straight brick. OK, this is all for now. Expect me again soon! ***** Part 6: - Part name: Windscreen 4 x 4 x 2 Canopy Extender with Hinge - Part description: This, with hinges. - Part usage: Subs, airplanes, cars, helicopters... My apologies, Bonaparte, if that isn't framed adequately, but I just wanted to get this point across. ***** My apologies again, I neglected to read the part of your post that said "one post per user only"... Scorpion ***** A new idea I just had when I was MOCing. This would had come in handy... Part 13: - Part name: Plate ZxYx2/3 - Part description: Actually "parts". A series of square "plates", only two plates high. A mid-term between plates and bricks. - Part usage: Oh, how this one would've come handy today! Basically, whenever two stacked plates are required, you use this part. Like a non-round... this part! ***** Yet another idea I just had when I was MOCing: Part 14: - Part name: Wedge Plate 6x10 Left & Right - Part description: A 6x10 wedge plate with an angle similar to this. See the attached render. - Part usage: Wings, canards, a complement to the other wedge plates in production now... ***** Part 15: - Part name: Wedge Plate 8x14 Left & Right - Part description: A 6x14 wedge plate with an angle similar to this. - Part usage: Wings, canards, a complement to the other wedge plates in production now...

Selling off childhood memories...
Scorpion replied to Scorpion's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Well, they've spent most of their lives hidden away in a bucket. None of these sets have been built for the last 15 years. I haven't played with them in 15 years. They're just taking up space, so I'll sell them. The memories, that I'll keep. ;) -
Hey guys! I've got this huge chest filled with my childhood Legos. Kilos of the stuff, all from the Golden Age. Mostly city and space (SPII, Futuron, Blacktron II, Spyrius, M:Tron), a few castle sets for good measure. Since I've returned from my Dark Ages, I've been building up another collection from scratch, so I was wondering, what is the best way to sell off the contents of my chest? I really don't have the time or the patience to catalogue every single brick in that chest to sell it off piece by piece. So how should I get on with it? Should I just post an add saying "10Kgs of lego to go" and sell it to the highest bidder? Thank you for your time. Scorpion

C'mon, that little rocket Vespa? It's alien, allright, but to call it a "ship" would be an overstatement (looking, for instance, to the parts count compared to the GalExplorer). I'm not so sure. Have you noticed that all the new 2010 SP3 sets (except the base) have been single ships? Perhaps the bean counters at Lego have reached the conclusion that the 2-in-1 sets weren't working? *Jedi mind trick* George Lucas never made the prequel triology. I think it's logical. You give two teams the same budget: this set has to cost 50€. One makes a 2-in-1 set, the other makes a single vehicle. The second team can go all out on the vehicle, making a lavish design. The first team has to design two vehicles, and since the budget is fixed, you have to adjust the other vehicle if the first gets over the parts count. It's a compromise instead of an optimal design. Like I said in the previous post it's all about the consistency of theme. 2001 and Buck Rogers.
-
You're concentrating on a frankly superficial part of my argument. I've exposed my case, but if you want to sum it up in one word, it's "theme". I think the "theme" of SP3 does not fit well with the theme of classic space. I could go further, but I would only repeat myself. It's all there up in my other replies.
-
Have you noticed that you just enumerated sets that only have one vessel instead of the 2-for-1 deals as the better examples of SP3 design? That's part of the point I'm trying to make. I love the Raid VPR, it's a sleek little vessel with great lines. I bought two of those. I also like the VX Falcon very much. But I'm not gonna spend 50€ on a set because I enjoy half of it! (By the way, what does VPR stand for?) I have to disagree with you. They do look evil, allright, but futuristic? C'mon! They look like something out of a 1950's pulp magazine! Nope, every "good guy" faction had a concurrent "bad guy" faction. Blacktron I was simultaneous with Space Police I. Blacktron II was around in the last year of SPI and during SPII's entire run. Spyrious showed up in the last year of SPII, IIRC. I never said SP3 was the WORST space theme ever. As I stated in my original reply, I believe that honour goes to Unitron. (Roboforce and Galidor? Never heard of it.) In fact, I concur with your last sentence. SP3 is doomed to the limbo that is mediocrity. No, they don't look like aliens (even because we've never seen one). They look like minifigs with bumpy rubber foreheads. LEGO Space wasn't about aliens, it was allways about humans, exploring, stealing, policing. Like I said, '90s space was 2001: a Space Odyssey. SP3 is Buck Rogers in the 25th century. Space Police 3 is too much "police" and not enough "space".
-
Innovative? Those ships are ridiculously simplistic compared with the ships from M:Tron or Space Police or Blacktron. The VX Falcon is mostly made out of large plastic pieces and the Skull Interceptor is a car without wheels! That's the thing, it's the only space theme you've seriously collected. I don't know your age, but for you to say that, I presume you're too young to have bricked in the early '90s. Then, Lego Space was at it's peak: Futuron, Blacktron, Space Police, M:Tron... Nowadays, Space Police has to share it's brick count with the "Black Hole Gang", which gives us two mediocre ships in one box instead of one great ship. Also Space Police 3 has a different inspiration than the ones who came before: while the space themes from the late '80s/early '90s reminded me of "serious" science fiction (Outland, Aliens, 2001: A Space Odyssey, etc...), Space Police 3 is more like "LEGO Buck Rogers": science fiction as an excuse for silly plots, outlandish vehicles and men with bumpy rubber foreheads! I mean, 2009 SP3 didn't even had closed helmets! (BTW, worst LEGO Space theme ever? Unitron.)

Comparing today's Lego catalogue with Lego's early 90's, I noticed that while nowadays Lego usually puts out some sets with many vehicles, in the early 90's the norm was loads and loads of small sets. We've all come across this situation: "Wow, set X has a really cool Y, but it also has Z, W and V, which I don't like. X is too expensive to buy just for Y, which I would buy multiples of if it came alone..." Is it possible Lego is hurting itself by putting out a few huge expensive sets instead of many small cheap (hopefully) ones? Also, I wanted to make a poll, but no go, why? Anyway, what do you think? Am I right? Am I wrong? Should I snort ABS powder? What is the capital of Botswana? Scorpion
