The upside down parts are an interesting technique, and play features are always fun. Too bad about the lack of parts, it's a pretty good representation but definitely needs to be sleeked-up a bit. SNOT plates might be better for that. That's for sure... Hound's tooth at least has a distinctive shape to it, the twilight looks like a retarded decapitated B-wing.

Please let's have our own opinions... I don't think it's too complicated. It's got many details I've seen on the movie droideka. It's a little big to be used to minifigs, if you're real anal about scale, but so were the two or three versions LEGO put out as well. I also am pretty sure I've seen this model a looooong time ago. I can't be sure it was this particular MOC or even how old this one is, but I'm definitely reminded strongly of something. There was another version in that same brickshelf gallery, which looked pretty good as well.

Looks great, as I'm sure you're aware. I have a couple questions- how many pieces approximately? How stable is it? Does it use any "unconventional" methods to stay together? (things like minifig hands hidden inside holding plates together) Can it hold a minifig in the back seat as well?

A Moldy Crow set would be really cool. Dark tan would be a perfect color, as well as Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors figs. And maybe a gran for Kyle to fight! It's probably not likely at all to ever happen, seeing as how if TLG were to do a set based on a game they would probably do The Force Unleashed since it's somehow so popular

It's still amazing, whatever domes you use. Are you using a lot of reference for these, or just winging it? You two have definitely captured the feel of tatooine cities.
-
Wow, this looks really great. But as someone else said, the domes are really bothering me... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jjrailton/oddities/sphere-d14/sphere_02.jpg I don't know if they're supposed to be like that, but I think either way something like the above link would look much better.

This is great, I can tell you're having a lot of fun with it. The fantasy elements, the band-of-adventurers, and the whole series of buildings you have is incredible, and I'm definitely jealous :) I assume you disassemble your old cities to make new ones?

For all this trouble about accuracy is it really worth it to get into whether it's the version from the movie or the TV show?
-
Ah, technical commentaries... half of that site is trying to make sense of the random machines in Dark Empire. I think that's where the clone turbo tank came from, so it's not all bad I guess. And to keep this post on topic, uh... Well I wouldn't have put venators with all the other star destroyers but I can understand putting them with your other models to make a collection even more impressive!

The minigun looks good. And it's too bad you're giving up on the floating rock, it would look great if the top wasn't so flat. But at least you got a lot of use out of it
-
Ah heh... I just read the other day on wookieepedia a debate about the length of the Moldy Crow... pages long and a whole lot of nerd rage. I felt embarrassed for them.

trimmed that up a bit, hope you don't mind. maybe answering this will help clear things up around here, I think it's on topic. Good criticism can always lead to more accuracy, if that's what you want. * Be honest. If something looks off to you, or you have a suggestion that could improve someone's model, voice those opinions. If they're wanted, at least (see below). Comparing someone's creation to a similar model is fine, if it's to say "try what this person did, I think it'd work well with yours". * It depends on the situation. Not everybody posts to receive criticism. But not everybody posts to receive praise! The builder may get encouragement from it and continue building, but it's up to them to get better. Whether that's doing research on techniques or taking advice from other builders. * You don't want to be the person's mom, but you don't want to insult them either. Neither helps, in my opinion. If it's crap, there is almost always a way to say it without using those words. If not, it's just as easy to not post. * It can be difficult to determine if a person wants criticism or not. If criticism is posted, and the person gets offended, that may be an indicator that the person isn't in the mood for it but it also depends on the nature of that criticism.

There I go missing the point of the topic again. As far as MOCs go, I'll accept any level of accuracy. Whether or not I'll consider it a good MOC, that depends on the skill of the builder. Obviously there are some liberties to be taken as far as scale goes, since minifigs are so strangely proportioned compared to humans. But as long as it looks right, it's fine. People don't make MOCs of ships anymore, it seems like. They just leave it up to LEGO and either make dioramas or invent new ships. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. EDIT: I've now read more of the BARC speeder moc thread that seemed to have spawned this debate... Look, it's unfair to judge a minifig scale MOC in terms of accuracy on the same level as a UCS scale creation. When you're building minifig scale, there are tons of limitations you set on yourself, which is part of the challenge to make it good, and part of the fun. If you're looking at a bike meant for a tiny man to sit on, it's ridiculous to say it's inaccurate because the handles are the wrong shape or something like that. There's only so much you can do with the pieces in existence. Hell, it goes both ways. You could look at a UCS scale model and scoff because their 1x1 round rivets aren't in the correct orientation, but at that point you're missing the entire point of lego. Why not play with megablocks where everything is premolded and all you have to do is take it out of the box.

White has got to be one of the most numerous colors people have in their collections, but no one ever makes castles out of 'em. Good on you for breaking the ice.

I remember 12 years ago when lego star wars was just getting started. I remember half the people overjoyed that their favorite movies and toys were being combined, and the other half were yelling that you could see yellow bricks on the bottom of the millenium falcon. For a while I was somewhere in the middle; I would get sets and change colors, add bits and bobs that were removed for simplification or to make room for other set functions, but for the most part I was happy with the way the sets came. People can complain about this ship being too small, or that minifig is printed wrong, or this other ship's wings aren't wide enough... but nowadays, I'm just happy to build and get more pieces. and a side note: it was funny to see when pics of the newest sets were released, and people complained about the hole in the side of the geonosian fighter. It's movie accurate, and some people actually planned to fill it in with bricks. I don't know what to think of SW fans anymore
-
Well, it's definitely beefier and I like what you did with the engines, the flash-speeder-cannons with the grille slopes on the bottom look great. It's unfortunate you have to rip the dude's legs off to get him to sit but it does give an accurate seating position :p
-
Haha wow, I'm really happy at how well those corner pieces work as tiny chairs.
-
Very nice build there, what torso is that statue sporting?
-
Or you could even add a few layer of plates to give it a bit of slope and unevenness. But it looks good as it is, too.

This is one of the best waves in a while. The podracers, geonosian speeder, and sith infiltrator give me the same feeling I got back in '99 looking at the little catalog that came with other sets and wishing I could have them all. I never minded the tan bars on the old podracers, it gave me something to hold onto and have fun with, and didn't look that bad. I also really liked the first infiltrator, all the old sets had this simplicity to them that was really endearing. I had the geonosian ship that had the crappy gun and was really disappointed but I liked the figs, and now I really like the ship but don't like the geonosian :/ ki-adi-mundi is cool though. I don't understand the people complaining about the gap in the side... for years SW LEGO fans would moan about the movie innacuracies, and now that they have it they don't like it and are gonna mod it to be different from the movie. Whatever, they're not my bricks.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
lefty replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Wow, this looks great. I'll go through points of interest by set, as featured here: http://dcp.smugmug.com/Media-Briefs/Pirates-of-The-Caribbean/15500586_CDyZJ#1168762114_fGPUY First, it seems every minifig has new printing and several have new headgear. The dwarf beard variation with the capt. blackbeard flaming dredlocks, the 18th century witch hunter hat (which may also have hair attached?) and of course the capt. sparrow hat and hair. The ship has the new long and short bones, as well as tons of skulls and sails. An awesome barbossa figure with large hat, and the new gold brick pieces people are excited about. Lots of pearl gold 1x1s and a new pretty hairpiece for whats her name. The return of the natives hairpiece with short bones in the clip, the new minifig bag, and sword holsters! New shutter pieces to fit in the classic 1x2x2.5 arched windows, bottles (I think introduced in the minifig collectors series?) and new bucket/handle pieces. Plus lots of nice hats, with some printing. The shell-head is interesting, would go good with atlantis theme monsters. Is that another new hairpiece will has? More bones, ships-in-bottles, and the globe of course. Some of the new pillar pieces, a printed bicorn and I think the fountain looks great. Plus the large piece with the waterfall printed on it. And a great looking fort, with a 1x8 wood-printed tile, more buckets and mean looking mermaids with new fish bodies and fish faces. -
Really nice, reminds me of all those huge capital ships you'd see people making years ago... Only criticism I have is, the back look really busy. Maybe it's all the black. But other than that it looks super fun.

I didn't like these sets at first glance, they seemed too cheesy and kiddy for me. Which is fine, seeing as how they're toys for kids, this just happens to not be one of those themes that appeals to the younger and older crowd simultaneously. However, if you think about it in non-lego terms... A group of ninjas with elemental powers living in a dojo with their wise master do battle with undead skeleton warriors that drive huge bone-themed vehicles. This whole theme is an action cartoon from the nineties. As soon as I realized that I appreciated it much more. I just can't decide if having a few weird looking skeletons in my undead army is worth buying the sets.

The reviewer seems to have an unhealthy infatuation with an (unattractive) fourteen year old actress. Which is particularly alarming, seeing as how this is supposed to be a site for AFOLS.

I haven't played TFU, but the glowing orange lightsaber wound reminds me of the fantastic Jedi Outcast and I approve :)
